With the win, Harrisburg improves to 26-7 on the season while the Chargers end their year with a record of 8-13. The win also punches Penn State Harrisburg's ticket to the NEAC Championship Final where they will take on the winner of the other semifinal between No. 2 Penn State Abington and No. 3 Penn College. The Final is scheduled to take place on Saturday with the if-necessary game coming on Sunday.
Second seeded Penn State Behrend advanced to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference semifinals with a 23-4 win over No. 7 Pitt-Bradford in the third game of the quarterfinal series on Monday. The Lions will host No. 3 Mt. Aloysius on Thursday in a best of three series. The Lions posted a season-best with 23 runs and 22 hits as six different players recorded multiple hits, led by seniors Braden Paulinellie and Josh Wagner with four apiece. Paulinellie reached 100 hits for his career, going 4-for-5 with six runs, three RBIs and two walks.
Stevens ended DeSales's season and made a date with Misericordia for the MAC Freedom championship this weekend with a 13-8 win in game three of the MAC Freedom postseason tournament semifinal series. The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as the Ducks made an error leading to DSU's second run. Stevens took control from there hitting a two-run home run in the top of the second inning to tie the game and scored in each of the next five innings.
Penn State Altoona forced a game three in this week's Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament Quarterfinal best-of-three series, earning a split with Alfred State College on Monday afternoon in a pair of games played at Monroe Community College. Alfred State (17-21), the fourth seed in the AMCC Tournament, rolled to an 8-1 win over the Lions in game one. But fifth seed Penn State Altoona (12-14) battled back in game two, using a ninth inning rally to come from behind and grab a 7-6 victory to keep its season afloat. With Monday's split, the teams will square off in the decisive game three on Tuesday, May 11, with the location shifting back to Alfred State's Pioneer Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., and the winner will continue on to the next round of the AMCC Tournament.
Mount Union rallied for a split at Baldwin Wallace in a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games Monday at Fisher Field. The Purple Raiders won the nightcap 9-0 after falling 8-4 in the opener. The Purple Raiders, which lost for the first time since April 17, are now 27-7 overall and 25-7 in the OAC, while Baldwin Wallace is now 19-14-1 overall and 18-11-1 in the OAC. In the nightcap, Mount Union starter Dwayne Sumler shut down the Jacket bats as he allowed just three hits with the complete game shutout. In the opener, BW scored a run in the bottom of the first then blew the game open with a seven-run third inning to lead 8-0.
Senior Jose Vasquez registered three hits and drove in a run to lead the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth to an 8-3 victory over visiting Plymouth State University this afternoon in a Little East Conference baseball contest. The Corsairs won their fourth consecutive contest to improve to 11-12 overall and 9-7 in the conference circuit. UMass Dartmouth clinched the fourth seed in the upcoming Little East Conference Championship tournament and will face fifth-seeded University of Massachusetts Boston (9-7) at 1pm on Thursday, May 13 in Mansfield, Conn. The Panthers completed their season with an 8-16 mark, including 4-12 in league play.
UMaine-Farmington split a season-ending doubleheader with UMaine-Presque Isle on Monday afternoon. The Beavers won the opener 14-5 while the Owls prevailed 7-3 in the nightcap. In game one, Riley Bartell continued his hot streak after going 3-4 with four RBI and another home run with two runs. Ryan Pratt also went 3-4 with two RBIs and two runs as Jordi Valls went 2-4 with two RBI and three runs. Nicholas Perfitt threw all seven innings fo UMPI, giving up eight hits with three earned runs and striking out nine to get the game two win. Perfill was also 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Hamline (13-23, 6-15 MIAC) returned to the win column on Monday afternoon, taking two games off non-conference opponent Minnesota Morris (5-23) on the road. In game one, HU needed extra innings to win it, coming away with a 6-5 win, but in game two, the Pipers took care of business in regulation, winning 10-6. Senior Zack Langton and first year Max Gerstner led the Pipers offensively, combining for an impressive 11 hits on the day. Langton went 5-9 with two RBIs and Gerstner went 6-8 with four RBIs and four runs.
