ATLANTA (June 11, 2021) -
The Oglethorpe athletic department is pleased to announce the hiring of Kellen Greer as their new head baseball coach.

Greer comes to Oglethorpe with 18 years of coaching experience around the southeastern United States. He most recently spent four years at Berry College in nearby Mount Berry, Georgia, a fellow SAA member, as the Vikings' assistant baseball coach. While there, he served as a strength and conditioning coach for multiple Berry athletics programs. Greer also served an 11-year tenure as the head coach at Sparkman High School in Harvest, Alabama, accruing a 292-178 record while leading that program to 10 consecutive playoff appearances, four state semifinal appearances and one state championship appearance.

Greer played for both Jefferson State Community College and Northwest-Shoals Community College, both in Alabama, and received his bachelor's degree in physical education from Athens State University, also in Alabama. He earned a master's degree in sports administration from Southeastern Oklahoma State University this year.

"I am excited to announce the appointment of Kellen Greer as our next head baseball coach given his history of coaching success, experience in team development, competitive strategy, and his commitment to the success of scholar-athletes," stated Oglethorpe Director of Athletics Todd Brooks. "Equally as important is his obvious passion for the game and his ability to provide compassion, understanding and mentorship to those he coaches. Coach Greer will be an excellent colleague within our department and across the Oglethorpe University community."

"I'm very appreciative to all involved for this opportunity to lead the Oglethorpe University baseball program," said Greer. "Our goal is for Oglethorpe to be in a position to be at the top end of the Southern Athletic Association. I look forward to getting to know our players and will work tirelessly to help them become the best people, students and athletes that they can be that represent themselves, Oglethorpe University and the Oglethorpe baseball program in a first-class manner. We want the program to be a source of pride for our players, student body, faculty, staff, administration, alumni and community. My family and I are excited to get started."

The new Stormy Petrel coach will take over a team that went 13-22 and 9-15 in SAA play to finish fifth in the league. He'll look to move the team up the standings in a highly competitive conference headed into the 2022 season.
