Howard wins 300th at Penn College

Penn College opened its spring break trip with a doubleheader sweep over Hilbert College Sunday. The Wildcats won the first game, 9-7, and walked-off the second contest, 8-7. Penn College improved to 2-2.

The game one victory gave Coach Chris Howard his 300th career win. Entering his 14th full season (16th overall), Howard is 301-206 during his tenure, with 10 20-win seasons and three conference championship titles.

In game one, Penn College trailed 7-6 in the top of the sixth inning when Cameron Dick homered on a 2-1 count, scoring three runs.

Shane Price led the Wildcats by driving in four runs. Price went 3-for-4 at the plate. Price drove in runs on a single in the first, a home run in the third, and a single in the fourth.

Samuel Zeigler earned the win after firing two and a third innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out five and walking zero. Gabe Reptsik, Tyler Rudolph, and Tristan Current all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. Rudolph recorded the last three outs to earn the save.

In game two, Deadlocked at 7-7 in bottom of the seventh Jake Wagner drew a walk, scoring one run.

Hilbert College fired up the offense in the second inning. Emmanual McClain hit a solo homer.

PCT scored four runs in the fifth inning led by Kevin Cute, Reese Kauffman, and Cameron Dick, all knocking in runs in the inning – including a solo shot by Cute.

Hilbert College scored three runs in the sixth inning. Frank McCabe and Nicholas Barberio each had RBIs in the big inning.

Chance Webb lasted five innings, allowing six hits and four runs while striking out five.

The Wildcats tallied eight hits on the day with Wagner, Cute, and Dick all picking two hits.
