After the snow subsided on a chilly overcast Saturday afternoon in the nation's capital Gallaudet went up against SUNY Canton on the second day of the Bison Baseball Classic. Gallaudet (3-3) behind strong pitching and hitting rolled to a 15-1 win over the Roos (0-1).

No. 10 Baldwin Wallace knocked off No. 17 nationally ranked Oswego State in a non-conference neutral site game by a final score of 12-5 at Ross Memorial Park on the campus of Washington and Jefferson. The Yellow Jackets got a jolt on offense from senior outfielder Andrew Parker who went 2-3 with a two-run home run. Sophomore infielder Sean Kolenich went 3-4 with an RBI double. He knocked in two RBIs and scored two runs. Oswego State opened up their season against the Washington & Jefferson College Presidents this afternoon on the road. The Lakers took down the Presidents by a score of 5-2. Kieran Finnegan had nine strikeouts through six scoreless innings before giving the ball to Jonah Shearer and Jai Sharma who both pitcher 1+ innings in relief for the Lakers.

Centre picked up its first wins of the season as they
earned a Saturday doubleheader sweep, defeating
Penn State Behrend 12-5 and following that up with
a 4-3 win over Dominican.

USMMA opened the 2023 season by tossing a pair of shutouts to sweep a doubleheader against Wells at Bartoszek Field. The Mariners (2-0) walked off with a 1-0 win in game one before a three-run first set the tone for a 7-0 triumph in the second game against the Express (1-2). The game two victory gave USMMA head coach Michael Notebaert his 250th career-win. Junior Kole Register tossed a complete game shutout to lead the Mariners. Register (1-0) struck out four, while surrendering four hits and one walk. Classmate Tyler Reistetter finished 2-for-3 and hit the fly ball with two outs in the seventh that was dropped, allowing the game-winning run to score. Reistetter (1-0) racked up eight strikeouts in 4.0 shutout frames for the win in game two, while also going 1-for-1 with a double and two RBI at the plate. Senior Joey Zanetti finished 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored, while sophomore Jack Millen went 2-for-2 with an RBI triple, two walks and two runs. Freshman Ernest Darling was 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Scoring nine runs in three innings and ending the game on a triple play, East Texas Baptist swept the entire series over Sul Ross State, 15-11. ETBU scored 50 runs in three games played at the historic Kokernot Field moving to 5-4 n the year and 3-0 in the ASC. Peyton Miller earned the win in relief going five innings recording nine strikeouts giving up three earned runs. Jagger Neely received the start and went 2.2 innings with four strikeouts giving up three earned runs. Jacob Sherman was in 0.1 innings and Trent Clark pitched an inning giving up just one hit. ETBU had six extra base hits with three home runs, two doubles, and a triple. Brett Wagner had both a home run and triple while Jase Jones and Nick Massarini recorded a home run. Jake Miller and Jacob Evangelista had doubles. Wagner led the team going 3-of-5 for four RBI as Parker Perez was 3-of-5 for two RBI. Jordan Hara had one hit and three RBI and as Nick Massarini had two RBI and Evangelista one RBI.

No 22 Wooster turned Saturday's season-opening doubleheader's nightcap into a rout late and settled for a split against Grove City College at Art Murray Field.Grove City kept Wooster at bay behind All-America pitcher Tate Ostrowski in a 5-1 game-one win, while Wooster roared back for a 19-7 victory in the nightcap. In game one, senior pitcher Tate Ostrowski struck out 12 men and allowed only one run and two hits in seven innings. Yet, the Wolverines trailed 1-0 entering the top of the eighth inning before rallying for the victory. Grove City then added three runs in the top of the ninth. Wooster (1-1) was comfortably ahead 13-7 before exploding for a six-run eighth inning in game two. Sophomore shortstop Nick Pett led off the inning with a solo homer, Wooster's third dinger of the game, while senior left fielder Jack Whitehouse smacked a two-run double down the right field line that was just out of reach of Grove City's (2-3) Sam DiStefano. Pett wrapped up the inning with a single up the middle that scored Whitehouse.

Senior third baseman Joe Ruth belted a pair of homeruns and drove in eight RBIs as No. 3 LaGrange (5-1) pounded out 34 runs and 31 hits in a 20-3 and 14-2 doubleheader sweep of Rose-Hulman (0-2) in NCAA Division III baseball action on Saturday. The Fightin' Engineers would push across a run in the top of the first as Dalton Busboom banged a double to centerfield to take a 1-0 lead – and that would be the end of their highlights on the day as the Panthers took complete control from there. That would take the form of eight hits and seven runs in the bottom of the second, an explosion highlighted by seven singles that took them from down one to up 7-1 and they were off to the races. It would once again be far from a pitcher's duel, and early on as the clubs combined for seven runs in the first inning. LaGrange another run in the second when Ruth blasted his second home run of the day, this time over the right centerfield fence. It would be a precursor of what was to come. Freshman catcher Curt Bonner then put the finishing touches on it in the bottom of the seventh as he walked it off with a three-run blast to left, closing out the 14-2 victory.

Following a lengthy rain delay, John Carroll began their 2023 season with a nail-biting 11-10 victory against the Allegheny Gators. Saturday's contest started hot for the Blue Streaks but Allegheny quickly responded. JCU took the lead to break the tie on a steal of home by Connor Mayle. Michael Persichetti was stealing second on the play, and Mayle was able to advance on the throw to make it 2-1. The Blue Streak offense then found life in the top of the fifth where JCU also padded their lead to begin the eighth inning. This was the first game the Blue Streaks had played in Beckley since 2020 after opening their season there in six of the previous eight seasons before.

The fifth-ranked Trinity (Texas) Tigers opened up a three-game weekend series by sweeping Babson College 6-1 and 3-2 in a Saturday doubleheader. Junior infielder Cristian Holloway opened the day's scoring with a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning of game one, then closed out the day with a game-winning solo homer in the bottom of the eighth of game two. He went 3-for-4 with two RBI in the opener and the late round-tripper was his only hit of the second game. Ezra Gore also had three hits and a pair of RBI to match Holloway in the opening game. Gore also had two more hits in the second game and scored three total runs in the two games. Joseph Chavana improved to 1-2 on the season with his win in game one, striking out four batters over seven-plus innings, and giving up just one run on three hits. Michael Boeke struck out three batters and allowed just two hits over the final two innings to close out the game. Cade McGahan also went seven innings in game two, allowing two runs on five hits and recording five strikeouts. Harrison Durow earned the win in relief to move to 1-1 on the season, striking out four over the final two innings and giving up just one hit.

Augustana picked up a non-conference win over the Blackburn Beavers on Saturday, winning in dominating fashion by a score of 22-2 at North Mac High School. The two teams were scheduled to compete in a doubleheader, but due to a delay to start the morning the two teams agreed to one single contest. After a scoreless opening inning both ways, the Vikings struck first leading 6-0 after four innings complete. Augustana broke things open in the fifth, sending 19 batters to the play and tallying 13 runs on seven hits. Dymitri Kannellakas led the balanced offensive attack with three hits, four RBI, and four runs scored. A total of five Vikings had multi-hit efforts, with Cole Green the other boasting three. Harrison Boushele earned the win on the mound, striking out four and not allowing a hit in three innings of work.

Otterbein carried the momentum of a big 14-0 win over Albion on Friday right over in Saturday morning against reigning MIAA regular-season champion Hope, defeating the Dutchmen 15-4. The Cards plated three initial runs in the first inning thanks to a 2-RBI triple from Brayden Quincel, who later hustled home to score as Zach Franz stayed alive just long enough in a pick-off sequence. A consistent and workmanlike offense managed to score in seven of the nine innings overall, including six in the middle frames to methodically pull away. The run support was more than enough for a handful of Cardinal arms, all seeing their pitching debuts at Otterbein. Freshman Andrew Nemec almost went four full as the starter before giving way to classmate Sam Sethna, who was ultimately credited with the decision. Transfer Gavin Wolf tossed the next three and junior Nick Plucinski contributed a scoreless ninth. Hope bounced back as they pounded 12 hits to defeat Wabash 12-5.

No. 6 ranked Marietta scored seven runs in the first inning en route to a 13-2, seven-inning, win over Washington and Lee University Saturday evening in the D3 Showcase. The Pioneers sent 12 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first inning. Nick Bonnizzio, Ty Davis and Cole Yeager had three hits apiece for the Pioneers. Yeager drove in four runs.

Emory opened its weekend series against crosstown rival Oglethorpe on Saturday, sweeping the doubleheader 6-6 and 11-6 at Chappell Park. The Eagles racked up 17 runs on 23 hits in the twinbill sweep to improve to 3-2 while the Stormy Petrels fell to 0-7. The two teams will conclude their season series on Sunday with the finale set to begin at 1:00 PM on Emory's campus. Junior Derek Livingston fired four shutout innings of one-run ball, facing one over the minimum and striking out five to earn the win in relief. Senior Ellis Schwartz went 3-for-4 with three RBI as part of his five RBI day. A four spot in the third inning pushed Oglethorpe ahead 4-1 but 10 unanswered runs was the difference as Emory ran its season record against OU to 3-0.

Trine opened up the 2023 season against Anderson and took both games of a doubleheader. The Thunder topped the Ravens by a score of 8-5 in game one after scoring six runs in the top of the ninth inning and capped the day with an 8-2 victory. The Thunder start the year 2-0 while Anderson is 0-2. Senior Cole Decker came out of the bullpen and tossed zeros in the seventh and eighth innings which put Trine in position to strike for their ninth inning rally. Senior Avery Fulford singled to leadoff the inning and that opened the floodgates for four consecutive hits for the visitors. Medvescek tied the game with a single, then senior Cory Erbskorn, junior Dalton Nikirk and junior Easton Rhodes provided insurance with a single, sacrifice fly and two-run double to go up 8-4. Anderson was able to score once in the ninth, but senior Robert Kortas slammed the door shut by eliminating the only batter he faced for the save. In game two, Trine was held without a run over the course of five innings but like the opener was able to find more than enough offense to get the sweep in the later innings.

A pair of first-rate starting pitching performances laid the groundwork for McMurry to enter the win column Saturday. Head coach Josh Lee, earning his first two victories at the helm of the Maroon and White, saw his squad rally in game two of the three-game American Southwest Conference series against Howard Payne University and then take that momentum in the finale and never trail. McMurry's 5-3 win in Saturday's opener at HPU Baseball Complex was sparked by a gritty five and a third innings from sophomore Adam Trevino and another sparkling bullpen effort from freshman Bryson Morrill. Trevino kept the War Hawks down only three runs early until they rallied with two in the fifth and three in the sixth. The weekend set finale belonged to freshman Cooper Marshall. The Boerne, Texas, right-hander locked up the Yellow Jackets on five hits, surrendering two runs with five strikeouts over six frames. Lee's bullpen held the 4-2 lead in check with three innings of one-hit work.

Bates got the 2023 season started on the right foot with a doubleheader sweep of Houghton on Saturday, with the Bobcats winning game one by a count of 6-1 and game two by a score of 8-3. Junior RHP Luke Linnehan tossed five innings of two-hit ball and did not allow an earned run in a 6-1 victory for the Bobcats in game one of Saturday's twin bill. Linnehan struck out five Houghton batters and did not walk any one in his first career start for Bates. The Bobcats took the lead in the fifth and scored six times in the sixth inning to run away from Houghton in an 8-3 victory for Bates in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.

Adrian began its season with a 9-4 road at Birmingham Southern in game one of their weekend tournament. The Bulldogs opened up with No. 13 Webster on Saturday night. Due to rain, first pitch was delay just over an hour. Adrian trailed early after Webster put up three runs in the bottom of the first inning but the Bulldogs responded with three runs of their own in the top of the second. In the third inning, Ryan Davis hit a 2-run homer and grabbed a lead Adrian would hold to the end of the game. Daniel Gutierrez was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs after throwing five innings allowing six hits and three earned runs with two strikeouts.

Buena Vista was back in Topeka for the second straight week and picked up where it left off by earning a thrilling 3-2 victory over Bethel in the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader. The Royals (1-1) rallied in the nightcap to hold off the Beavers, 5-2. Tied in the ninth, senior Logan Mueller put down a bunt single with a runner at second base, but the throw to first base from the Bethel third baseman was wild, allowing Tegan Bock to come all the way around and score the walk-off victory.

Guilford traveled to Brevard, N.C. for a neutral site matchup with Northern Vermont-Lyndon. The Quakers survived a late comeback by the Hornets for the 9-8 win. It remained tied through the seventh but in the top of the eighth, the Guilford bats woke back up. GC capitalized on four hits and an error to score six runs including a single by Bryce Vestal to score two. Trailing 9-3, the Hornets drew four walks with two hits and a hit by pitch as five runners crossed the plate. Up one (9-8), the Quakers left a runner in scoring position in the top of the ninth. In the bottom half of the inning, Ty Clark forced two fly balls and a foul out to secure the 9-8 win and the save. Hairston finished 3-5 from the plate with two RBI and two runs. Ricigliano went six full innings in the win, giving up three runs (two earned) on two hits.

Squaring off against St. Scholastica in the morning and Otterbein in the nightcap, North Central College beat the Saints 11-3 before falling to Otterbein 3-1 in their second game of the day at the Grand Park Tournament. Kutcher finished the game to capture his first save of the season. Behling picked up the win as he threw six innings with six strikeouts and zero earned runs. Marinec tallied four hits in four at bats with three RBI and two runs. Listi scored three times with two hits and two RBI. Davis drove in three runs on his two hits. In a battle of the Cardinals, North Central took on Otterbein for game two. Starter Luke Lamm kept Otterbein at one run until the sixth inning when they added two runs to hold a 3-1 lead heading into the seventh inning. North Central's offense was held hitless the rest of the way as Otterbein improved to 3-0 with a 3-1 win over North Central.

Senior captain Ryan Boyce had two hits, including a solo home run, and three RBIs, to lead Hampden-Sydney to a home-opening 5-1 victory over non-conference opponent Franklin and Marshall, Saturday afternoon at Yank Bernier Field at the Ty Cobb Ballpark – Wurdeman Stadium. Senior Justin Woodall had a strong showing on the mound, going five innings, striking out seven, while only giving up two hits and one run. Sophomore Jaxon Masterson drove in a run with one hit and fellow classmate Christian Lancaster went two for three at the plate while freshman Alex Fitz-Hugh picked up his first career save for the Tigers (4-1) against the visiting Diplomats (1-3).

LeTourneau got the series win with a 13-7 win on Saturday over Ozarks. This was the first series of conference play for coach Phillips and the YellowJackets and it was one full of runs with 57 total runs scored on the weekend. It was still a one run game going to the seventh when Cole Thompson singled for the YellowJackets while marking two RBIs to his name in the seventh inning. Thompson later drove in another run in the ninth inning putting himself on base for Kyle Maysonave to hit another home run extending the lead, making it 13-6 going into the bottom of nine. Thompson had three hits with three RBIs from his five at-bats. Armarantos went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs to add to his spectacular weekend. Riley Davis (2-0) got the win for the YellowJackets as he pitched 5.0 innings allowing 10 hits, five earned runs, and marking a strikeout.

Capital opened up the 2023 season with an opening day split on the road at UC-Clermont. The Comets dropped game one 5-2 before taking the second game 14-7. Capital is now 1-1 on the young season and saw numerous newcomers factor in big ways. Between the two games, Capital slugged four home runs and drew eight walks for a balanced approach to get the job done. In the first game, the hosts rode a 5-0 lead into the sixth inning before the Comets were able to respond. The Comets brought both their patience and their power to the second game of the say as they drew seven walks, were hit by three pitches, and smacked three home runs to lead to a dominant 14-7 victory in the night cap.

Elmhurst split an opening pair of games Saturdurday afternoon, defeating Illinois College 12-11 before falling to Loras Colege 4-14. Elmhurst (1-1, 0-0 CCIW) opened the season with a high scoring, thrilling game against Illinois College, using a five-run ninth inning to take the season-opening victory. In game two against Loras, Elmhurst fell 4-14. With the Bluejays leading 12-6 entering the bottom of the ninth, they withheld a scare in the final inning, with a leadoff solo home run and a grand slam from Illinois College moving the score within one, but Zach Keplar came in and shut the door with a strikeout to secure the season-opening victory for Elmhurst.

Pitt-Bradford split the first day of its four-game set at Bethany on Saturday, winning game one 9-3 before falling to the Bisons on a walk-off 3-2 in game two. The Panthers used a 7-run 4th inning to take down Bethany 9-3 in game one. All seven runs were scored with two outs. Kyler Majka (1-1) picked up the win after allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits in 6 innings pitched. He struck five. Joe long worked a hitless 7th. Evan Fragela and Trent Bielak both went 2 for 4 with a run and two RBIs. Maxwell Rogers and Justin Dattoli each had RBI hits, while Nico Hall and Kevin Rehak both scored twice. The nightcap of the doubleheader was a pitcher's dual that ended with a walk-off single by the hosts. The Bethany leadoff batter reached base and moved to second on a pair of errors at 2nd base and then moved to third with one out after a sacrifice bunt. With two down, a shallow fly ball found some grass in between two Panther outfielders, allowing the winning run to cross the plate.

Muskingum swept non-conference foe Defiance in a doubleheader played at Xavier University to give Head Coach Jake Krupar his first win at the helm for the Muskies. Muskingum won game one 7-4, and completed the sweep with a 5-4 win in game two. Muskingum was led by sophomore Weston Melick and junior Ryan Schwartz who had five hits on the day. Junior Jaxon Rinkes started on the mound for Muskingum in gmae one, tossing four innings and giving up two earned runs. Junior Liam Carey picked up the win for Muskingum after tossing two innings in relief. Carey gave up two earned runs and struck out one batter. Senior Clark Jennings nailed down the save, pitching the bottom of the ninth inning and allowing one hit. On the mound, freshman Jake Roshau picked up the win after tossing six innings and giving up three earned runs. Sophomore Austin Lippolis earned his first save of the season after pitching a shutout ninth inning to secure Muskingum's victory.
