Landers earns 300th NCAA victory In DH split

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego State Baseball team concluded their series with Plattsburgh State this afternoon in a double header matchup. The Lakers split the day with the Cardinals, falling in game one, with game two being rained out while Oswego was up, giving them the win. Tishawn Featherstone recorded five hits this afternoon, earning three RBI's in the double header. Coach Scott Landers has earned his 300th NCAA victory with the game two win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1

  • The Lakers jumped out to a one run lead in the bottom of the first inning. Jelani Hamer singled through the left side, then proceeded to steal second and third base, scoring an unearned run from an error by the Cardinals catcher.
  • The Cardinals would tie the match in the top of the third, leaving two runners on base at the end of the inning.

  • Plattsburgh would pull away from the Lakers in the sixth inning, earning three runs off of four hits in the top half of the inning.

  • Oswego would trail 4-1 with three innings remaining in game one.

  • Bottom of the ninth inning, the Lakers found themselves in position for the walk off win over the Cardinals.

  • Oswego would have runners on first and second with no outs to start the inning, with a walk by CJ McCarthy and a single by Brian Brezosky.

  • The Lakers almost had bases loaded as Jelani Hamer reached first by a fielder's choice, and McCarthy was ruled out at third.

  • The runners would advance to second and third off a ground out to second base by Frank Levanti.

  • Tishawn Featherstone brought in two runners with a single up the middle, making the score 5-3.

  • This would be the end of the Lakers comeback, as the next batter was struck out looking, and the Cardinals took a 5-3 victory in game one.

  • Alek Conrad, Jai Sharma, and Ryan Paige combined for seven strikeouts in game one.

  • Hamer and Featherstone combined for six hits at the plate, tying for the team lead in game one.

Game 2

  • The Lakers came to play in game two, jumping out to a five run lead over Plattsburgh in the bottom of the second inning.

  • Singles by Jacob Levine and Julian Drew set the Lakers up with runners on first and second base.

  • Tim Schinto brought in the first run with a single to right field, bringing in Levine for the score.

  • During the next at bat, CJ McCarthy tripled to right center field, bringing in Drew and Schinto, making it a three run game.

  • McCarthy would then score an unearned run with the help of an error by the Cardinal's second baseman.

  • Sloppy play continued to haunt Plattsburgh, as Jelani Hamer reached first off an error by the third baseman.

  • Hamer would steal second and set Tishawn Featherstone up for the RBI, as Featherstone singled through the right side and brought Hamer in to make it a five run lead.

  • The Cardinals bounced back with a run in each of the next two innings, cutting the Laker lead to three.

  • Oswego opened up the scoring again in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring three more runs, making the score 8-2.

  • McCarthy doubled to first base, bringing in Greg Carullo for the first run of the inning.

  • Hamer then hit a sacrifice fly out to right field, bringing in Schinto for the score.

  • The final run of the game would come from a double to left field by Featherstone, bringing in McCarthy.

  • The game would be called off due to the weather in the middle of the sixth inning, and the Lakers took a 8-2 win in game two.

  • Jonah Shearer got his third win of the season starting on the mound, making him 3-0 this season starting. Shearer recorded five strikeouts in the victory this afternoon.

  • McCarthy led Oswego at the plate, going three for three at-bat, earning two runs and three RBI's.
