Piedmont sweeps La Grange

For the second straight year, No. 13 Denison hosted the College of Wooster for their series during the regular season, but this time around, the Big Red earned a big sweep over the Fighting Scots with wins of 8-2 in game one and 11-0 in seven innings in game two on Saturday afternoon. The Big Red also finished with 12 hits in both games.

Piedmont swept #9 LaGrange in CCS action Saturday at home with a pair of convincing victories, outscoring the Panthers 17-5. The Lions won 7-2 in the series opener and finished the day with a 10-3 victory in game two. Trace Cate and Isaak Mullanak both had multi-hit games in game one adding two hits each. Piedmont totaled eight hits to the Panthers' six. Piedmont fell behind in game two as the Panthers were able to score in the second off a pair of hits but the Lions did not trail long with a run in the third to make it 1-1 and an eerily similar start in game two. Piedmont took the lead with three straight singles to start the bottom of the fourth and extended the lead to 6-1 in the fifth inning. Piedmont added three runs on two hits in the bottom of the seventh for good measure and a 10th and final run in the eighth. Boyce surrendered two hits in the eighth but stranded both after a heroic catch by KYLE CARLSON at third to end the inning.

No. 3 Shenandoah defeated No. 10 Randolph-Macon College, 10-5, Saturday afternoon in ODAC action. The Hornets (28-3, 13-2 ODAC) scored runs in all innings except the third, seventh, and ninth in their win over the Yellow-Jackets (25-6, 12-3). Tyler Blittersdorf got the day started hit his second home run in as many games with a solo shot in the first. R-MC responded with two runs on a double in the bottom half of the inning for its only lead of the contest. Randolph-Macon threatened a comeback as its scored three runs in the ninth and had bases loaded. However, Kyle Lisa was able to get the final two outs of the game on a strikeout and a fielder's choice to preserve the victory.

Tufts celebrated Senior Day Saturday afternoon, taking both ends of a NESCAC doubleheader with Bowdoin College with scores of 4-3 and 10-6 in play from Sol Gittleman Park. The Jumbos have now won 11 of their last 12 contests, including opening conference play with six straight victories. Senior Connor Davidson lifted a game-winning sacrifice fly to center field in the bottom of the ninth inning, as Henry Fleckner dove in just before the tag to clinch the victory in the opening game of the day. The Jumbos offense scored in each of the first five innings, including plating three in the third inning and four runs in the fourth for all the runs they would need. Bowdoin rallied with five in the top of the sixth inning, but it wasn't enough complete the comeback.

Mitchell improved to 8-0 in New England Collegiate Conference play by sweeping a doubleheader at New England College on Saturday afternoon, taking the opener 4-0 before routing the Pilgrims 13-1 in the nightcap. Ryan Solimine was dominant on the mound for the Mariners in game one, tossing a seven-inning complete game shutout, allowing just four hits while striking out 10. Solimine, who improved his overall record to 5-1, has been brilliant in conference play this season, throwing to a 1.61 ERA across four starts, allowing just 18 hits in 28 innings of work against New England College, Eastern Nazarene College, and Lesley University. Not to be outdone, Camren Varney took care of business in the second game, working six innings of one run ball to earn his third victory of the season. The senior righty allowed just six hits and struck out four, before freshman John Novak came out of the bullpen and tossed a one-two-three seventh inning.

Three hitters in the No. 18 Wheaton (Mass.) lineup collected three or more hits, including junior center fielder AJ Guindon, who turned in a four-hit, two-RBI effort to fuel a 14-3 victory over host MIT this afternoon in the first game of a NEWMAC doubleheader at Fran O'Brien Field in Cambridge, Mass. Wheaton won game two 15-8. The game was the second of a three-game series with MIT and was halted after eight innings due to the NEWMAC 10-run mercy rule after seven innings. The Lyons have won six straight, 10 of their last 11 and 20 of their last 22 to improve to 22-4 overall and a perfect 8-0 in league play, while the Engineers dip to 9-13 and 4-4. For the second straight game, Wheaton registered 10 or more runs and 13 or more hits against MIT after a 10-run, 15-hit attack yesterday in Norton

Erupting for 16 runs on 18 hits combined with another strong pitching performance, East Texas Baptist University swept their fourth straight American Southwest Conference series with a 16-1 win over Hardin-Simmons. Austin Barry continued to have a career weekend going 4-of-5 with six RBI, four runs scored, a double, and two home runs. Brett Wagner followed with three hits while Jacob Evangelista, Jordan Hara, Jase Jones, Ben Lea, and Jake Miller all had two hits. Jones added three RBI and a home run as Carson Wilson and Miller posted two RBI as Evangelista, Wagner, and Lea had one RBI. Hayden Robichaux went five innings for his second win of the week moving to 5-1 on the year. He recorded three strikeouts, one earned run on four hits. Matthew Irwin went the sixth inning recording two strikeouts and Trent Clark pitched the seventh with one strikeout.

St. Mary's (Maryland) (7-15) concluded their three game series with United East Conference Rival Penn State Abington (14-15). The Seahawks rallied in the top of the eighth inning to win, 16-14. With their backs against the wall, the Seahawks recorded one of their more memorable innings of the season. Garrett Pullium got things going with an RBI single with one out. After a few pitching errors from the Nittany Lions loaded the bases, Ian Walters would score after Adrian Auber got hit by a pitch to trim the lead to four for the Nittany Lions. Abington continued to walk batters with the bases loaded and the Seahawks kept capitalizing thanks to great plate discipline. With the lead now down to just two with two outs, Cole Tarleton made the play of the season thus far for the Seahawks, hitting a go ahead grand slam to give St. Mary's a two run advantage. The Seahawks would hold the Nittany Lions scoreless the final two innings. St. Mary's held on to win, 16-14.

Castleton collected its second Little East Conference victory Saturday, going 1-1 in a twin bill at UMass Dartmouth, winning 5-1 before falling 13-6. Jackson Cardozo went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a homer in the first contest before reaching via hit-by-pitch in his lone plate appearance in game two. Kannon Dush tallied base hits in both games, going 3-for-8 with an RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases. Tyler McLain and Evan Keegan had two hits apiece as McLain and Hunter Perkins provided the Spartans' (10-15, 2-7 LEC) two doubles of the afternoon.

Nick Wilson had the tiebreaking RBI single in the ninth inning in the opener, then had five RBI in the nightcap, as Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swept a road doubleheader from Redlands on Saturday afternoon, 4-3 and 10-3. In the opening game, CMS led 3-0 as Jarrett Korson took a no-hitter into the eighth, but Redlands was able to string together five hits to tie the game 3-3. In the ninth, Julian Sanders led off with a double and went to third on a passed ball. One out later, Wilson found the hole in the right side to plate Sanders with the winning run. Hamilton Finefrock pitched the bottom of the ninth, earning the save, with only one runner reaching via an error. In the nightcap, CMS trailed 2-0 through five, then scored a run in the sixth, four in the seventh, and five in the eighth to break it open.

A couple of big innings in the early going of each game Saturday allowed Clarkson to claim a doubleheader sweep of Bard College, as the Golden Knights won the first game 6-1 and held on for an 8-4 victory in the nightcap. In the opener, the Golden Knights would get all of the scoring they would need in their first at bat for an early 4-0 lead for the Knights. Mateo Sarabia pitched well, allowing four hits and a walk with six strikeouts over eight frames. Tommy DiFranco came on to pick a scoreless ninth to close out the contest. Game two saw Clarkson plate seven in the top of the second, which once again turned out to be all the team would need for the win.

No. 6 Endicott defeated Roger Williams, 12-4 and 3-2, in a conference doubleheader on Saturday evening at North Field. The Gulls used a five-run second inning to break away from Roger Williams and take game one. A two-run homer from Jake Nardone in the fourth inning proved to be the difference in the nightcap. Max Tarlin picked up his league-leading seventh save of the season (tied third nationally) by stranding a runner at second base in the eighth and ninth innings.

Beloit's offense continued to hum Saturday afternoon, defeating Monmouth 15-9. That keeps the Buccaneers squarely in first place in the Midwest Conference standings. Beloit finished with 16 hits, with Jack Alport's 4-for-4 day leading the way. Deven Irwin added three hits, while Connor Vogel recorded two, while scoring a game-high three runs. Harvey Pena (1-1) earned the win for the Buccaneers, striking out seven batters in 4.1 innings of relief. Aiden Phipps came on to pitch the final two innings, earning the save, while allowing just one hit. The second game of this scheduled doubleheader was suspended due to darkness with Beloit leading 8-4 entering the bottom of the sixth. That game will be resumed Monday at 2 p.m. in Monmouth, Ill., and will be followed by the third and final game of this series.

No. 19 ranked Marietta soundly defeated Wilmington \in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday at Pioneer Park. The Etta Express won game one, 18-4 in eight innings, and completed the sweep with a 16-0 win in seven innings in game two. Marietta belted three home runs and collected 17 base hits in the first game victory. The Pioneers sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the first inning scoring four runs for an early 4-1 lead. Game two followed the same script as the first with the Pioneers scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Marietta added four runs in the third, four in the fourth and three more in the fifth.

Rochester took a pair from the Skidmore Thoroughbreds on Saturday after at Castle Diamond in interdivisional Liberty League play. The Yellowjackets took game one, 4-1, behind a tremendous performance from Nolan Sparks on the hill, before finishing up the sweep with a 6-2 victory in game two. Sparks (5-0) earned the win, allowing one run on one hit, and striking out 12 over eight innings pitched. Aaronson picked up the save, his sixth of the year, striking out two in the bottom of the ninth. Van Allen (3-1) earned the win, allowing one run on five hits, walking and striking out two over 6.0 innings pitched. Quinn Hocom (2-2) took the loss for Skidmore, allowing four runs on four hits over 4.0 innings pitched. 10 different Yellowjackets scored or drove in a run, led by Ellison's two RBI. Reed led UR with a pair of hits, going 2-for-3 with a double and run scored, while Avera went 1-for-3 with a home run, walk, run scored and RBI.

Rhode Island College junior designated hitter Cole Podedworny went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI as Rhode Island College defeated Suffolk, 10-2, in game one of a doubleheader played at Pontarelli Field on Saturday afternoon. After the visitors plated one in the sixth, the hosts put the game away with a six-run effort in the bottom of the frame. Junior third baseman Cal Parrillo and senior left fielder Joey Coro each smacked two-run singles in the stanza. Junior designated hitter Cole Podedworny got the walk off base hit as Rhode Island College came from behind to edge Suffolk, 7-6, in game two of a doubleheader. Podedworny came up to the plate with a runner on third and roped a liner past the infield to seal the victory and complete the sweep vs. the Rams.

Washington & Jefferson played to a split of a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader with visiting Waynesburg University Saturday afternoon at Ross Memorial Park.The Yellow Jackets scored four runs over the first two innings as they earned a 5-3 win in game one. The game one win by Waynesburg snapped a 15-game winning streak for W&J in the head-to-head series. That streak dated back to April 1, 2017. The Presidents responded with an 8-5 victory in game two behind a pair of home runs. The split moves W&J to 10-2 in the PAC and 19-10 overall. Waynesburg is now 7-7 in the league and 11-19 overall.

As with most Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheaders, you need to remain locked in and stay the course over a full nine innings to achieve the best of results. That's exactly what Otterbein had to do Saturday afternoon on the road in order to secure hard-fought victories (scores of 11-9 and 6-4) at a pesky Heidelberg team inside Peaceful Valley. With the pair of two-run outcomes, the Cardinals improve themselves to 21-8 on the year and up to 6-4 against the OAC. That mark currently situates them one game back of second place in the league standings as competition moves across the midway point.

Will McCarthy tossed an eight-hit shutout as Cortland defeated Oneonta, 5-0, to complete a doubleheader sweep of the visiting Red Dragons. Cortland won the opener, 13-2 in seven innings, despite trailing 2-0 after four innings. Cortland trailed 2-0 after four innings as Oneonta starter Devin Rooney kept the hosts off the board until the fifth. Oneonta took the lead in the top of the fourth on a Joe Ottaviano RBI groundout and an error. Cortland took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. McCarthy upped his record to 5-0 on the season while becoming the first Cortland pitcher to toss a shutout of at least nine innings since Matt Valin defeated Fredonia, 1-0 in 10 innings, in the 2019 SUNYAC playoffs. McCarthy allowed eight hits - one each in the second through ninth innings - with six strikeouts and no walks.

No. 4 Baldwin Wallace cruised past Muskingum for an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep on the Fisher Field. BW took game one by a final score of 11-3 and it also took game 2 by a score of 14-2. BW (21-5, 7-2 OAC) was led in game one by senior All-OAC first baseman Alexis Castillo who went 1-for-4 at the plate with a grand slam in the first inning. Senior All-OAC outfielder Vincent Capolupo went 2-for-5 at the plate with two runs batted in (RBIs) and two runs scored. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Dylan Snyder got the start and win after going six innings and allowing three runs on six hits and striking out four. In the nightcap, BW (22-5, 8-2 OAC) was led by senior All-American infielder Luke Vonderhaar who went 3-for-4 at the dish with two RBIs and two runs scored. Kolenich knocked in three RBIs and junior catcher Mark Mohnickey, Jr. went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored.

Jace Fetterman and Luke Blair both hit home runs in game two as Lebanon Valley split its Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth doubleheader with Widener on Saturday afternoon, dropping the first game 9–3 and winning the second contest 7–4 at Widener Baseball Field. LVC trailed by just one run until the bottom of the sixth inning, when Widener (16-16, 10-7 MAC Commonwealth) extended their lead with a five-run frame. The Pride added some insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth with a five-run inning. The Flying Dutchmen (18-13-1, 14-4 MAC Commonwealth) came alive at the plate in the second game, outscoring the Pride (16-17, 11-7 MAC Commonwealth) to win the final game of the series.

Plattsburgh State completed the sweep over SUNYAC foe SUNY New Paltz, 4-3 and 10-7, on Saturday afternoon, as the team was led by a fantastic performance from Kyle Cremin in the conference doubleheader. The Cardinals prevailed 4-3 in the opener. In the second game the sweep was finished with a 10-7 win. Cremin finished 6-7 on the day with four RBI, four runs scored, and a homer. The Cardinals got some solid starts from Chris Santic and Andrew Veit , who each earned wins and received timely hitting from the Cardinal offense. Nick Cergol (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) reached base four times on the day, scoring two runs and driving in a run and Conner Gonzalski (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) had three hits, walked twice, and drove in a run on the day.

St. Joseph's (L.I.) took home a pair of Skyline Conference wins from SUNY Purchase, 6-2 and 11-2 (10 innings), on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore starter Jake Kelly improved to 4-0 on the season allowing just two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in game one. In game two, a one-out single by Louis Carvell gave the Panthers a baserunner in the ninth, but Michael Manzolillo got Sam Saltzman to ground into an inning-ending double play sending the game into extra innings. St. Joseph's batted around in the top of the 10th sending 13 Golden Eagles to the plate. Phil Krpata led off the inning with a single through the right side sparking a nine-hit, nine-run inning. John Lynch and Joe Sanguedolce knocked in two runs while Ryan Decoursey, Chris Lettiere, Paul Gugliuzzo, and Tom Gray all recorded RBIs. Manzolillo pitched around a leadoff single in the bottom half of the 10th to secure the 11-2 win.

Middlebury claimed a walk-off 9-8 victory in the first game of a twinbill against Hamilton but was edged 3-2 in the nightcap. The Panthers earned the series win, having topped Hamilton 8-6 on Friday evening. Prior to the start of today's games, Middlebury honored its senior class. The Continentals would not go away in the opener, knotting the game 8-8 in the seventh. Harrast singled to right center, and a pair of Hamilton players scampered home on an error to deadlock the contest and force extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth, Samii had a base hit and advanced to second on an error. A sacrifice bunt by Flemming moved Samii up to third, before a single by Gough sent Samii home for the 9-8 walk-off victory. in the second game of the day Continental Jack Griffin walked to drive in Carter Chambers. A sac fly by Harrast brought home Jackson Sattinger for the 3-1 lead. Reliever Jackson Atwood retired the side in order in the seventh to give the Panthers a chance, but the Continentals made three-straight outs to secure the 3-2 win and rob Middlebury of a series sweep.

Springfield won the regular season series against WPI, taking a pair of NEWMAC games on Saturday.The Pride won game one, 9-5, and then took the nightcap 3-2 to move to 9-15-1 overall, 3-6 in conference play. The Engineers fall to 13-15, 2-7 NEWMAC. Springfield rallied from deficits in both games to earn the sweep. Cadin Maynard led the team with three RBI in game one with Ryan Sorgi driving in a pair. In game two Luke DiMauro drove in two of the team's three runs. On the mound for the hosts, Ian Benoit got the win in relief in game one, throwing 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. In game two, Nathan Kelleher-Mochak picked up the victory, tossing 2.2 innings giving up one hit with five strikeouts.

Lewis & Clark secured their first post-season berth in 30 years and first Northwest Conference tournament berth in program history with two wins against George Fox in their final regular season doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. Pioneer pitchers Brett Pierson and Luke Ritter each picked up their fifth wins of the season and threw for a combined 12.2 innings, and senior Jack Savant hit 4-6 with three runs scored and an RBI on the day to lead Lewis & Clark to wins of 5-4 and 8-5 over George Fox. Lewis & Clark's Pierson pitched seven full innings with five hits, three earned runs, and a strikeout to earn his fifth win on the mound in a 5-4 game one victory. The Pioneers opened a 6-0 after two in the nightcap. George Fox scored three unearned runs in their next at-bat to pull within 8-5 after six. Davis was moved to the mound in the ninth for the Pioneers to close out the Bruins. He retired all three batters he faced with a fly out, strike out, and a fly out to earn the third save of his career. Ritter earned the win to stay a perfect 5-0 with eight hits, five unearned runs, and two strikeouts.

Wells hosted the Gallaudet Bison Saturday evening for the first of a three-game series and defeated the Bison 12-8. After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the second, Lance Phillips walked with the bases loaded to send home to tying run. In the fourth inning, Aaron Izquierdo started the Express off with a single which was followed by a single from Lance Phillips. John Valnoti then put one over the left field fence for a three-run home run giving Wells a 4-2 lead. The Express broke this one open in the bottom of the seventh inning. Zac Legaretta hit his second home run of the season after a single from Zach Odum. Jacobi James walked with the bases loaded sending home another run, John Valnoti singled home Zach Young, and Jacobi James stole home and heading into the ninth inning, the Express had a 12-7 lead. Jonathan Haines got the start and the bullpen through three good innings to help Wells grab their second conference win of the season.

Brevard (19-12, 9-5 USA South) got back to its winning ways as the Tornados took care of business, sweeping Mary Baldwin (4-25, 0-14 USAS) in a pair of USA South Conference contests, 8-0 and 6-4, on Saturday afternoon at Gil Coan Field. Prior to the start of play, BC honored its eight-member senior class of Zach Allison, Trenten Anderson, Bryce Bowers, Blake Burchett, Brett Burchett, Parker Crews, Peter Fumero, and Joc Pledger in a special pre-game ceremony. Anderson twirled a complete-game shutout gem in game one as the Tornados controlled action for an 8-0 win to kick the series off. Brevard was able to take the lead in game two mid-game and hold off a late Fighting Squirrel comeback attempt to secure the series win and sweep Senior Day, 6-4.

Sophomore righty Matthew Wootton and sophomore lefty Dan Driscoll pitched back-to-back complete games and No. 8 Eastern Connecticut State got solo home runs in the second game to sweep Southern Maine in a Little East Conference doubleheader, 3-2, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at the Eastern Baseball Stadium. The two-time defending LEC regular-season champion and 2022 NCAA titlist, Eastern (23-5, 8-1 LEC) extended its winning streak against 2023 LEC pre-season favorite Southern Maine (9-15, 4-4 LEC) to five, dating back to last year's road sweep and a 5-0 victory in last year's LEC tournament at the Eastern Baseball Stadium. Wootton (5-0) allowed nine hits, fanned four, hit a batter, and walked three and stranded 11 runners en route to his second complete game of the year. He threw 92 of his 120 pitches for strikes. Driscoll (6-1) pitched a three-hitter without a walk, striking out five and hitting two batters in his first complete game of the year and the staff's first shutout. He threw 70 of his 95 pitches for strikes.

Led by a two-run, opposite-field home run in the bottom of the third inning by senior right fielder Bobby Pollock on Saturday afternoon, Farmingdale State captured a 4-3 victory on the opening game of its Skyline Conference doubleheader against visiting United States Merchant Marine Academy. The Mariners took the nightcap by a 9-2 margin. The Rams (11-10, 3-4 Skyline) celebrated Little League Day throughout the afternoon, welcoming youth players from the Farmingdale Baseball League to the contest. The players were able to march onto the field with the FSC team for the national anthem, as well as running the bases in between games of the twinbill

Sophomore Grayson Harris had two RBIs on the day, while senior captain Ryan Boyce and junior Trent Jones each had two hits, as Hampden-Sydney split an ODAC doubleheader on the road at Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon in Lexington. Senior Owen Tappy gained the pitching victory in the 6-1 win in the opener, while sophomore Gavin Gregory took the mound setback in the 4-1 loss in the nightcap for the visiting Tigers (16-15, 9-7) against the host Generals (14-12, 8-8).

Adrian hosted Albion on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader to conclude the three-game series. The Bulldogs came away with a sweep, 10-9 and 9-8, with the help of a ninth inning comeback, and a lead change in the bottom of the eighth of game two. Linkin Hayward was the game one hero as he singled in a pair of runs to complete the comeback and walk off the game. Lincoln Lipinski earned the win in relief after throwing 5.1 innings allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts. In game two, Adrain added a pair of runs in the fifth on an Albion error and a Boike single to lead 8-2. Albion pulled within two runs in the seventh and eventually tied the game in the eighth. David Kedrow singled in a run in the bottom of the eighth to retake the lead 9-8. Albion put a runner on third in the ninth, but was gunned out at the plate by Gus Weaks to keep Albion scoreless in the ninth and win the game. Jakob Charles earned the win in game two after throwing two innings in relief.

Senior Jon Campbell matched a career-high with nine strikeouts and junior Christian Peruzzi went 4-for-5 with five RBI as Wentworth Institute of Technology picked up its first Commonwealth Coast Conference win of the season with a 20-1 win over Gordon in the opening game of a CCC doubleheader on Saturday. The host Fighting Scots picked up the split with an 11-1 win in the nightcap. After a scoreless first two innings, Wentworth got all the runs it would need in the third frame, scoring five times. The Fighting Scots jumped on the board with a pair of runs in the first inning and added a run in the fifth on an RBI single from Shane Demers and scored three times in the sixth to round out the scoring.

Centenary (La.) clinched a series victory with a 5-2 win on Saturday over the Schreiner Mountaineers in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at Shehee Stadium. The Diamond Gents (15-11, 7-6 SCAC) opened the series on Friday evening with a 6-2 win over Mountaineers (15-15, 4-10 SCAC). The series finale is set for 10 a.m. on Sunday. Centenary will honor its 2023 senior class following the conclusion of Sunday's game. Centenary head coach Mike Diaz is now just one win away from becoming the all-time winningest coach in program history. Diaz, currently in his 13th season, is 291-207-1, and needs just a single victory to match former HC Ed McCann (1999-2010). The Diamond Gents are now 26-3 all-time against Schreiner and 16-1 all-time against them at Shehee Stadium. Centenary, 12-6 at home this season, is 45-14 on its home field since the beginning of the 2021 season.

Totaling 40 runs in Saturday's doubleheader, Methodist earned two victories over Southern Virginia. The Monarchs won game one 18-12, then took game two 22-9 in just seven innings. In the first contest, Southern Virginia scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth – three of which came on a home run. In the top of the seventh, Methodist scored two to tie the game at 7-7 before conceding a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh. The Monarchs amassed five runs in the eighth inning to take a 12-8 lead, then allowed one run in the bottom of the inning. In the ninth, Rob Wilkerson and Wesley Hall contributed back-to-back homers to bring home three runs, then Charles Jordan launched a ball over the fence to score three more. Up 18-9, Methodist gave up three runs in the bottom of the ninth before recording the final out. Methodist stayed hot to begin the second game with another six-run inning in the very first frame. Southern Virginia responded with three runs in the bottom of the first, but had a meltdown in the top of the second, surrendering ten runs to Methodist despite the Monarchs recording just four hits. Up 16-3 after two innings, Methodist coasted to victory. Austin scored one run in the fourth, Jackson Deal homered in the fifth for two runs, and Wilkerson homered in the sixth for one run before batting in two more on a single up the middle in the seventh.
