Wabash defeated Kenyon College 5-2 in game two of its North Coast Athletic Conference Saturday baseball doubleheader to give head coach Jake Martin his 300th career victory. The Little Giants lost game one to the visiting Owls 17-3 in eight innings.
Martin returned to his alma mater in 2017, earning 139 victories in seven seasons. He won 161 games in seven seasons as the head coach of the DePauw University baseball program.
Michael Galanos, the reigning NCAC Baseball Player of the Week and a member of this week's D3baseball.com Team of the Week, delivered the game-winning RBI for Wabash (20-13, 5-5 NCAC) in game two with a two-out double down the left field line to bring home Will Phillips with the third run of the game. Galanos' hit answered a run-scoring single by Kenyon (16-11, 5-5 NCAC) in the top of the sixth. Phillips delivered a two-run single in the seventh to provide a three-run lead.
Caleb Everson improved to 4-0 for the year by pitching 6-1/3 innings. He scattered six hits and gave up two earned runs while walking one and striking out six. Sam Phillips closed the game for the Little Giants, picking up his fourth save by working 2-2/3 innings. He allowed one hit in nine batters faced and struck out one.
GAME 1 | Kenyon 17, Wabash 3
The Little Giants were paced offensively by senior Liam Patton, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a home run, a walk, and an RBI. Junior Kamden Earley went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Sophomore Will Phillips also contributed for Wabash, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a triple.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Little Giants got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Patton put Wabash on the board with a two-out solo home run, his second of the season, Off Kenyon sophomore Frank Lynch.
The Lords scored ten runs and took a 10-1 lead before the Little Giants got back on the board in the fourth. Phillips came across to score the lone run of the inning for Wabash, which brought the score to 10-2 in favor of the Lords.
Wabash kept the Lords off the board before narrowing the gap to 10-3 in the fifth. The Little Giants scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Earley. The Little Giants could not get any closer, as Kenyon added seven runs to their tally on the way to a 17-3 final.

Wabash took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 5-2 win against the Lords.
Everson started on the mound and picked up the win for Wabash. The right-hander went 6-1/3 innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out six. Sam Phillips also made an impact on the mound for the Little Giants, throwing 2-2/3 shutout innings while allowing one hit, with no walks and one strikeout.
The Little Giants were led on offense by Will Phillips, who went 2-for-2 on the day with a walk and three RBI. Galanos went going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Camden Scheidt also chipped in for Wabash, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Little Giants got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom of the first inning, with the game still scoreless. Will Phillips' run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Wabash.
The Lords tied the ballgame at 2-2 before the Little Giants returned to reclaim their advantage in the sixth inning. Wabash pushed across a run on Galanos' two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Little Giants.
Wabash kept Kenyon without a run before building their lead to 5-2 the following inning. The Little Giants added two runs when a single from Will Phillips scored Scheidt and Patton.
