BW's Harrison Wins 500th Career Game, No. 2 Baseball Sweep Wilmington

BEREA, Ohio -- Baldwin Wallace University Head Baseball Coach Brian Harrison won his 500th career game as the No. 2 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team swept an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader over Wilmington College on Fisher Field.

Harrison, who is in his 14tth season in Berea and 18th overall year, now has a career record of 500-322-1 at BW and Urbana University.  He is now 358-193-1 as the manager of the Yellow Jackets.

In game one, BW (18-3, 4-0 OAC) scored four runs on six hits as they plated two runs in the sixth on the homerun by senior third baseman Nick Clark (Willowick/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin), and one each in the seventh and eighth.  Wilmington (2-16, 0-4 OAC) was held scoreless on five hits

At the Plate

  • Clark went 1-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two runs batted-in
  • Freshman second baseman Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) went 1-for-3 with a double, run scored and walk
  • Freshman designated hitter Colin West (Westborough, Mass. /Worcester Academy) went 1-for-3
  • Freshman pinch hitter Ryan Gordon (Strongsville) had his first career hit and RBI
  • Senior first baseman Max Anastasio (Chesterbrook, Pa. /Conestoga) went 1-for-4
  • Junior right fielder Brandon Gelpi (Monroeville, Pa. /Central Catholic) went 1-for-4 with a double and run scored

On the Mound

  • Junior right hander Vince Dolcemaschio (Los Angeles, Calif. / Windward School) picked up his fourth win of the season as he allowed no runs on four hits with four strikeouts and no walks in eight innings
  • Senior Academic All-OAC righty Matt Sabin (Mentor) pitched the final inning and did not allow a run on one hit

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored 15 runs for the four time this season, including the second time this week on a season-best 18 hits as they plated two runs in the first, one in the second, four in the third and eight in the eighth, including seven combined on the grand slam by junior Academic All-OAC second baseman Noah English (Perrysburg) and three-run blast by pinch hitter Nolan Kellicker (Dover) . The Quakers scored one runs on eight hits as they pushed their lone run across the plate in the seventh.

At the Plate

  • Senior left fielder Joey Marousek (North Royalton) went 6-for-6 with two runs scored, RBI and a stolen base
  • Kilbane went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI
  • Sophomore shortstop Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Akron Archbishop Hoban) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, RBI, walk and three stolen bases
  • Anastasio went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI
  • English went 1-for-2 with a grand slam, one run scored and four RBIs
  • Kellicker went 1-for-1 with a home run, one run scored and three RBIs
  • Five other BW hitters recorded a base knock led by junior pinch hitter Nathan Zinn (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne), Clark and West all with a double
  • ClarkGelpi, and Zinn each had an RBI

On the Mound

  • Sophomore right hander Tyler Walker (Copley) picked up his fourth win of the season as he did not allow a run on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk in five innings pitched
  • Senior All-OAC righty Garrett Miller (McMurray, Pa.) pitched two innings and allowed one run on three hits with three strikeouts and a walk
  • Freshman right hander Jake Heatherington (Bellaire) pitched the final two innings and did not allow a run or hit with three strikeouts

BW is back in action on Tuesday, April 2 when it travels to Meadville, Pennsylvania for a non-conference game against Allegheny College on Robertson Baseball Field at 3 p.m.
