Emory, Case winners in UAA conference play

UW-Platteville (5-11, 2-4 WIAC) split a doubleheader against UW-Stout (6-8, 1-5 WIAC) on Friday afternoon, winning game one 16-7 before falling 7-0 in game two from Nelson Field in Menomonie.

Emory traveled north to Staten Island, New York on Friday afternoon to take on the NYU Violets in its second UAA series of the season. The Eagles started off the series on a high-note as the Emory bats exploded for 14 runs in a seven-inning mercy-rule win, 14-4. Junior Matthew Sicoli led the way for the Eagles, going 4-for-4 with five RBIs and a home run. Emory's upper third of the lineup combined for 10 RBIs, with senior Jacob Grossman having two RBIs on a four-hit day with three doubles. Freshman Jake Lawson was solid out of the two-hole, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a triple. Five different Eagles had a multi-hit day and five also had RBIs.

Case Western Reserve University senior Reece Marley threw the first complete game of his career and junior right fielder Nick Harms and graduate student first baseman Dane Camphausen hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning to lead the Spartans to a 5-3 win over Brandeis University in the opening game of a four-game series at Nobby's Ballpark in Cleveland on Friday. The Spartans improved to 18-6 overall and moved into sole possession of first place in the University Athletic Association with a 4-1 conference record. Brandeis fell to 4-14 with a 0-1 mark in league play. Marley threw 141 pitches to secure the victory, improving to 4-2 on the year while lowering his earned run average to 4.38. He allowed just three runs on six hits and six walks and his 10 strikeouts in the game were one short of his career high. It was the first complete game by a Spartan pitcher since junior Kyle Gearding went the distance in a seven-inning game against Brandeis on April 22, 2023, and the first nine-inning complete game by a CWRU pitcher since former Spartan Matt Levine accomplished the feat against Wooster on May 15, 2021.

Swarthmore College swept Muhlenberg College, 10-0 and 19-4, to remain unbeaten in Centennial Conference play. The Garnet improved to 3-0 in the conference heading into tomorrow's double-eader with Washington College. Aidan Sullivan extended his hit streak to 22 games this season with hits in both contests. Dating back to last season, Sullivan has recorded a hit in 31-straight games. In 51 collegiate games played, he has been held hitless in just five contests. The sophomore currently leads the nation in on-base-percentage. Liam Alpern was excellent in the opener as he helped preserve the Garnet bullpen with 6.1 shutout innings. The junior captured his second victory of the season, while allowing just three hits with a season-high seven strikeouts. Swarthmore's offense was the storyline with 19 runs in the finale. Joe Radek led the way with three hits and 4 RBI. The senior finished a triple shy of the cycle. Brad Johnston, Matthew Silvestre and Jett Shue also went deep for the Garnet as the duo combined for seven hits and 11 RBI.

No. 12 Pomona-Pitzer opened their season series with a 10-4 win over No. 12 La Verne on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field. with the win, the Sagehens take the top spot in the SCIAC and improved to 23-6 overall and 11-2 in SCIAC play. The Sagehens were led by Isaac Kim who went 3-5 with three RBI and two runs scored in the win with his eighth home run of the year. William Kinney also had a multi-hit game going 2-3 with two runs scored while Greg Pierantoni, Nate Jakobs, and Jimmy Legg had one. Jake Hilton got his usual Friday start and improved to 8-1 overall on the season with five innings, three hits, four runs, none of them earned, and three strikeouts. Eamonn Woods came in for a relief role for the final four innings and pitched four scoreless frames with seven strikeouts.

An 11th inning error plated Dallas Griess to help Penn College knock off Penn State Berks, 3-2, in a United East game Friday. The Wildcats improved to 1-3 United East, 9-11 overall, while the Nittany Lions fell to 2-7-1, 3-18-1. Jaiden Augustine gave Penn College a 1-0 lead with a RBI single in the third inning before Berks tied the game in the bottom of the frame, 1-1. Shawn Townsend's one run double to left in the seventh put PCT back on top, 2-1, but the Lions deadlocked the game in the bottom of the ninth. Augustine's double in the 11th led to the error that brought in the winning run. Griess led Penn College's offense with three hits, while Augustine and John Croasdale both finished with two hits. Dennis Prestash fired the final two innings and improved to 2-1 after allowing no runs, on one hit with a walk, and a strikeout.

Messiah scored 11 runs in the final three innings to handle the Hood Blazers on Friday night by a 15-3 final score. The Falcons took a 4-1 lead after three innings of the play before opening up the flood gates in the late innings en route to their seventh-straight victory. As a team, Messiah picked up 13 hits with Luke Ott and Evan Wagaman launching home runs. On the mound, Jason Long turned in another strong outing, tossing seven inning, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out eight Blazers.

No. 24 Kalamazoo defeated Calvin 3-0 in the MIAA series opener on Friday. The Hornets improved their record to 15-4 (4-0 MIAA) on the season, and the Knights fell to 12-10 (3-1 MIAA). The game was deadlocked at zero until the fifth inning when Logan Lockhart hit a one-hit single and eventually came around to score on a Lukas Bolton RBI single. The Hornets doubled the lead in the sixth inning after Ryar Rinehart led the inning off with a single and came home on an RBI double by Robert Newland. The final run came in the seventh inning when Kalamazoo capitalized on a Calvin error with Rinehart doubling in Tanner Hawkins.

Adrian opened its three-game series with Olivet on Friday afternoon on the road. The Bulldogs took game one of the series as they shut out Olivet winning, 10-0. Jakob Charles pitched a complete game on the mound for Adrian. David Kedrow drove in the first and final runs of the ballgame on an RBI single to centerfield in the first inning and in the eighth inning, a sacrifice fly to lead 10-0 ultimately resulting in the 10-run mercy rule. Adrian recorded 11 hits as a team on Friday as Joe Casale, Ryan Davis, Easton Rogers, and David Shipman finished the day with two hits apiece. Jakob Charles pitched a complete game throwing eight innings allowing no runs on four hits with four strikeouts.

Scoring nine runs in a three-inning span put the game away for No. 5 East Texas Baptist University over LeTourneau University, 9-1. ETBU scored four runs in the fourth and sixth innings with a run in the fifth in the eight-run win. ETBU is now 22-6 and 12-1 in the American Southwest Conference. ETBU recorded 10 hits with two home runs and double. Conner Massimini went 3-of-4 with four RBI with a grand slam home run. Dylan Burnaman and Michael Gallegos both recorded two hits. Nicolas Chavez had a home run for two RBI. Brett Wagner and Gallegos both had one RBI. Jagger Neely went seven innings for the win giving up just one earned run recording four strikeouts. He retired the side in the second and seventh inning striking out the side in the seventh. Ethan Brister then pitched the eighth inning and Preston Crow the ninth with two strikeouts.

Buena Vista junior Evan Taylor hit a two-run home run in the first inning to aid in the Beavers early 3-0 lead and they never looked back en route to a big 11-4 triumph at Central College to begin the three-game weekend series held at the Kuyper Athletics Complex. Taylor finished the game 3-for-6 with a double, home run, a game-high four RBI and three runs scored. Joel Garcia and Zack Beekmann also added three hits apiece as BVU pounded out 17 total. Garcia doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice while Beekmann also doubled during the three-run first and drove in one. Drew Taylor finished with two hits and matched his brother with three runs scored. The early cushion was more than enough for junior right hander Morgan Smith (2-1) who pitched a strong 7.2 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits while fanning eight batters and walking only two. Ranked in the top-30 of Division III in total strikeouts, today marks the fourth time this season Smith has struck out at least eight batters in a game. Freshman Jake Eddie came on to finish things off over the final 1.1 innings, working around one hit with two punch outs. Colton DeRocher and Dom DeLaPaz combined for four of Central's seven hits to lead the Dutch (9-11, 3-2 A-R-C) at the dish. One of DeRocher's two hits was an RBI double.

Aurora University swept a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon with the visiting Regents of Rockford University. AU won a pitchers dual in game one 1-0 and out-battled the Regents in game two winning 8-3. Adrian Ruiz pitched 5.1 innings and allowed no runs on three hits and three walks. He struckout six. Ruiz gave way to Sam Harvey in the sixth inning with one out. Harvey quickly struck out the first batter he faced while Tyler Patton threw out a Regent base runner to end the inning. A 1-2-3 seventh by Harvey preserved the AU 1-0 victory and gave him his second save in as many games. In game two, a four run eighth inning moved the game into the win column.

Centenary (La.) opened its three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series with a 5-1 victory over the Southwestern Pirates thanks to another stellar outing by sophomore LHP Cody Myers on Friday evening at Shehee Stadium. Myers (7-1) continued his superb season as he tossed his second-straight complete game after doing so in last Thursday's 7-0 win over Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. The left-hander allowed 10 hits but just one earned run and three walks with 10 strikeouts. He faced 37 batters and threw 130 pitches – 87 for strikes. Centenary has won seven of nine and continued its dominant play at home, improving to 50-16 at Shehee Stadium since the beginning of the 2021 season.

After picking up a big series win a week ago against LaGrange, Covenant wanted to get off on the right foot with conference foe, Belhaven. The Scots did just that scoring the first six runs of the game to cling to a 6-4 game-one win. Covenant outhit Belhaven 10-7. Chase McBryar (3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB) had a strong day at the plate and was a triple away from the cycle. Sam Cecil (2-for-4) also had a multi-hit day for Covenant. RHP Bryce Bollinger (8 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 5 K, 3 HBP) went eight innings and picked up his sixth win of the year. RHP Jonathan Glover pitched the ninth and yielded just one walk to earn his third save of the season. Covenant moves to 2-3 all-time against Belhaven.

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy opened Skyline Conference play by sweeping a doubleheader against Yeshiva by scores of 29-1 and 13-3. USMMA improved to 10-8 (2-0 Skyline) on the season, while Yeshiva fell to 0-16 (0-10 Skyline). The Mariners plated 11 runs in the third and scored at least one run in each inning in the opener. Junior Travis Leatherwood finished a single shy of the cycle, going 4-for-5 with one double, two triples and one home run to go along with six RBI and five runs scored. In Game two, Travis Leatherwood finished 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, an RBI and two runs scored to lead USMMA. Junior Michael Monkevich earned the win after surrendering two runs and striking out four in 4.0 innings.

The 16th-ranked Trinity (Texas) Tigers opened up a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend on the road with a 7-1 victory at Austin College on Friday night. Joseph Chavana earned the win and upped his record to 6-0 this season, pitching seven strong innings during which he allowed just one run on six hits, striking out nine batters. Luke Pfeiffer and Jack Briese combined to pitch the final two innings out of the bullpen and didn't allow a hit between them. Nicholas Lazzara picked up three of Trinity's 10 hits on the night, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Alex Monson had two hits and three RBI, while Colt Harris also drove in a pair of runs. Kaleb Woodward went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Trinity took a 4-0 lead after three innings, scoring twice in the first and twice in the third. The Tigers answered the lone Austin College run in the bottom of the fifth with two more runs in the top of the sixth to make it a 6-1 game. Trinity then added one more in the seventh to finish off the scoring.

SUNY New Paltz used a nine-run sixth inning to earn a convincing 12-4 win over hosting Bard College Friday. Xavier Zykoff had another stout outing, as he tossed eight innings, gave up just seven hits, three earned runs and two walks with four strikeouts on 34 batters faced. Connor Olson came in to pitch the ninth for SUNY New Paltz to finish out the win. The Hawks offense was productive up and down the lineup Friday. Nick Harvey added three RBI, two runs and a walk. Fabian Ascanio also collected three RBI with a run, a stolen base and a walk. Anthony Pericolosi went 2-for-4 with two runs, an RBI and a walk. Dillon Ristano chipped in with two RIB and a walk.

Three Eastern Connecticut State University pitchers combined on a five-hitter and struck out 13 as the No. 23-ranked Warriors extended their winning streak to 15 with a 6-3 non-conference victory over Mitchell College Friday evening at the Eastern Baseball Stadium. Eastern (16-5) erased an early two-run deficit by scoring three times with two out in the third and never trailed thereafter, with first-year lefty Chris Torres shutting the door by striking out six over the final two innings to save the victory for 6-foot-7 inch sophomore righty Dylan Scudder, making his first home start of the year. Scudder (3-1) has won three straight since a 5-1 loss to then-No.1-ranked Shenandoah University on the second day of the regular season.

Luther hosted Loras College for game number one of this three-game series this afternoon in the valley. The Norse came from behind to post a 10-9 victory in 11 innings. After seven complete, Luther held what looked like a comfortable 7-3 lead. In the top of the eighth, Loras scored six runs on four hits and had some help with two errors by the Norse. With two outs and the scored tied 7-7, a misplayed very high pop up just outside of the infield, for what would have been the third out, allowed the Duhawks to score two more runs and take a 9-7 lead. In the ninth, the Duhawks commited an error that led to a run scored by Peyton Lindmark with two outs, that sent the game into extra frames. In the bottom of the 11th, Anthony Esposito, who had taken over the pitching duties, started the inning with a single and advanced to second thanks to an error. Lindmark laid down a sacrifice bunt, that was thrown over the first baseman's head by Duhawk hurler Andrew Krause, that allowed Esposito to score the winning run.

St. Norbert College returned to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action and split a doubleheader with Milwaukee School of Engineering at MSOE Raiders Stadium. The Green Knights (10-11, 3-3 NACC) won the opener 9-8 before dropping the nightcap 13-3. In game one, St. Norbert answered every scoring effort my MSOE and held a one run lead after the fifth inning. The Green Knights added to runs in the sixth inning on a Levi Crosswell run-scoring groundout and Matt Perry scored on a passed ball. The insurance runs proved valuable as MSOE scored twice in the seventh and had the tying run on third base but St. Norbert closed out the win. Zach Bostrand picked up the win with two innings of relief, while Marty Walsh worked the seventh to earn his fifth save of the year. In the nightcap, MSOE jumped out to a 13-0 lead with three runs in the second inning, two runs in the fifth and a big eight-run uprising in the sixth. The Green Knights was unable to respons and settled for a split on the day.

Scranton (14-5) broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning and notched an 11-4 victory over Penn State Harrisburg (16-6) in non-conference action on Friday evening at Volpe Field in Scranton. The Royals led 5-3 in the home half of the fifth before junior Jake Elston delivered a three-run triple as the big blow in the inning which opened a 9-3 lead. This marked the first ever meeting between the two programs. Five different players tallied multi-hit games for the Royals as senior Matthew Querey (3-3, 2B, 3 R) and Nick Reposa (3-4, RBI, 2 R) recorded three hits apiece.

Kyle Hogwood entered Friday’s series opener against Hardin-Simmons still seeking the first home run of his UMHB career. But when the senior, who is in his second year in the program, walked off the field on Friday night, he had not one, but two homers on his career stat line after a performance that will etch itself into the program record book. Hogwood finished with seven RBIs in a dominant 13-0 victory for The Cru, becoming the first Crusader to drive in seven runs in a single game since Chase Burrow did so against Ozarks on March 21, 2014. The Forney, Texas native went 3-for-5 with three runs scored as UMHB improved to 18-9 overall and 10-6 in ASC play.

It took 12 innings and nearly four hours, but Maryville came away with a 5-4 walk-off win over Huntingdon here at Scotland Yard Friday night. Ashton Whitaker was the hero for the Scots (12-11, 2-1 CCS), driving in Zach Devries for the winning run with one out in the bottom of the 12th for Maryville's second walk-off win of the season. "I just try to stay as calm as I can," Whitaker said when asked how he's able to come through consistently in clutch situations. "I fall back on my preparation, what we've worked on all season, and just trust myself. I was looking for something that I could drive up the middle. I knew all we needed was a base hit, so I was just looking for that." Head coach Clint Helton explained how his catcher was able to stay calm under pressure and come through for his squad in the clutch. "He's just very poised," Helton said. "He Stays within himself, he's mature in those situations. He understands how he's been getting pitched and even when he gets into two-strike counts he knows he's still going to give himself a chance."

Illinois College erased a three-run deficit and recorded a 5-4, 10-inning victory over Ripon in the first game of a Midwest Conference weekend series on Friday at the Future Champs Complex. After Ripon opened the game with three runs in the bottom of the first, the Blueboys began to chip away. IC scored two in the fourth when Logan Schweigert doubled home Jon Tate and Connor Hennemann. Despite both teams having multiple opportunities, the contest remained scoreless throughout regulation. The Blueboys opened the 10th inning with a Decker double. Brandon Smith pinch ran for Decker and Hannemann moved him to third with a flyout to right field before Tyler Barker doubled him home to give IC its first lead of the night. That was all Anthony Buonaura needed. The lefty shut down Ripon to close out the victory and move his record to 2-0 on the season. Buonaura tossed four inning of relief, scattering two hits with four strikeouts. Jack McGuire started for IC and pitched six innings, allowing four hits, four runs (two earned) with eight strikeouts.

Chris Sasso fanned nine batters to power Alvernia University (14-9, 7-3) to an 8-0 shutout victory over Eastern University (11-11, 5-4) in a MAC Commonwealth matchup Friday afternoon in Angelica Park. The Golden Wolves tallied six runs in the first two innings to jump out to a six run lead. Sasso cruised through the middle innings, shutting down the Eagles time and time again to keep the lead at six through six. The Golden Wolves then tacked on two more insurance runs in the home half of the seventh after two solo homers made it 8-0. Sasso and Jake Umans shut Eastern down in the eighth and ninth innings to secure the 8-0 shutout victory over the Eagles and grab game one of the MAC Commonwealth series.

No. 20 Montclair State edged William Paterson 7-5 on Friday afternoon to complete the regular season sweep of the Pioneers. Michael Murphy led Montclair with a game-high three hits to go along with two runs batted in. Matt Shuhet was the other Red Hawk with a multi-RBI contest with his double in the sixth. Nick Desiderio earned the victory in the contest, tossing 5.1 shutout innings, allowing just one hit while striking out a career-high 11. It marked the second time this season a Montclair pitcher has struck out 11 batters, with Michael Timberlake reaching the mark against Trinity (CT) on March 16. Christian Addotta notched the first save of his career, striking out two over two scoreless innings pitched.

Wartburg picked up another American Rivers Conference victory with a 3-1 win in a pitchers dual over Nebraska Wesleyan. In the bottom half, Sam Nicolino ledoff the inning reaching by a hit by pitch and then later scored after a wild pitch to make it 1-0 Wartburg. After an error brought a runner on, NWU was able to tie the game with a bloop single to center field to make it 1-1 in the sixth. After two errors and a bunt single from Eliot Jurgensen, the Knights had two runners in scoring position with no outs. Zach Walton hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Keaton Gray and then a Sam Nicolino single scored Jurgensen to make it 3-1 Knights. Will Armstrong came in the ninth to shut the door on NWU and close out a 3-1 win at home. "That was a classic Friday night American Rivers Conference pitching dual tonight," said Head Coach Casey Klunder following tonight's win. "One of our mantras is 'Win Anyway' and tonight was a great win anyway day against a tough A-R-C opponent. Cael was in command from start to finish, he was really really special tonight".

Johns Hopkins hosted Washington College in Centennial Conference action Friday afternoon, using a career day at the plate from Dillon Souvignier to secure the 8-6, come-from-behind win over the Shoremen. Souvignier's six RBIs are a career-high, with his three hits in a 3-4 effort also serving as a season-best mark. The junior has now registered multiple hits in four of his last five games and now sits second on the team in RBIs with 18. Bearden Awadzi moves to 3-0 with the win after giving up just two hits, walking two and fanning six in 4.1 shutout innings. The sophomore's six strikeouts were his most since his season debut against Juniata in early March, with his 3.09 ERA serving as the second-best among those who qualify as starting pitchers.

Farmingdale State split a Skyline Conference doubleheader with Mount Saint Vincent on Friday afternoon. The Rams took game one by a 7-1 score before narrowly falling 8-7 in the second game. In the seven-inning opener, Farmingdale State opened with an early 2-0 advantage and a fourth inning triple by Ryan Wasserman gave Farmingdale State a commanding 5-0 advantage. Senior Johnny Dougherty (W, 4-1, 7.0 IP, 6 SO, 4 H, 0 ER) allowed a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh but recorded a strikeout and a double play to close the game and secure his second straight complete game. He has not allowed an earned run since his first appearance of the season. In the nine-inning game, Farmingdale State scored in the top of the first but a six-runs third turned out to be too big a lead to overcome. FSC put a runner on with two outs in the final inning, but were unable to score as they fell, 8-7.

The Centenary Cyclones would rally with seven runs in the eighth inning to come out on top 11-8, against the Neumann Knights. The Cyclones move to 9-13 on the season, and 2-4 in Atlantic East play. Getting the start on the mound would be Senior pitcher Aidan Hixenbaugh. Hixenbaugh would go on to throw three innings, allowing four hits and giving up three runs (zero earned). Coming in relief would be Nick Guiro who pitched 4.2 innings. Drew Oppenheim would get his second win of the season while Adam Yarrison would get his fifth save. Offensively, the Clones would total eleven hits with four doubles. They would score eleven runs with seven being in the eighth inning. Nine of those runs would be batted in.

Alma College finally got back into the swing of things after several postponed games on Friday as they hosted the Flying Dutchmen of Hope College. The Scots found themselves in a low-scoring affair thanks to the pitching units on both sides, with Alma coming away with a narrow victory of 2-1. Tyler Johnson pitched seven innings for the Scots, recording 12 strikeouts and only allowing one run. Hayden Hileman came in as the reliever for the Scots pitching the final two innings. Hayden Hileman collected two K's and only allowed one hit, while collecting his third save of the season.

McDaniel College scored five unanswered runs to break a 5-5 tie en route to its fifth-straight win with a five-run victory over Dickinson Friday at Preston Field, 11-6. The Green Terror (12-8, 3-0 CC) are one of three remaining unbeaten teams in Centennial Conference play after knocking off the previously unbeaten Red Devils. During its five-game win streak, McDaniel has outscored its opponents, 48-24. Sophomore Ben Davis led the offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs while freshman Shea McKenna also went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Meanwhile, senior Tyler Yohn was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. The Green Terror used seven pitchers in the contest with junior Brady Bailey making his second start of the season. He left the game with a 5-0 lead after two as he faced just one batter over the minimum. Junior Ryan Kelly picked up his first win of the season, totaling 2.0 innings without allowing a base runner and striking out one.

Beloit College returned to the field after a week of bad weather. The Buccaneers (13-6, 6-2 MWC) defeated the University of Chicago (4-15, 3-2 MWC) in both games, 4-2 and 12-8, using late game heroics in both to secure the wins. In the opener, starting Pitcher Aiden Phipps pitched a gem, pitching seven innings, giving up seven hits and striking out four. Harvey Pena closed out the final two innings, shutting down the Maroons offense giving up no hits while striking out three. In game two, both teams found their footing offensively. In the top of the ninth, Beloit blew the game open, scoring five runs. The Bucs' pitched by committee in game two, sending six pitchers to the mound. Caleb Lasher earned his first win of the season pitching the eighth inning. Pena closed out the ninth, giving up one hit and one walk while striking out one.

A tenth inning fielding error following a two-out ground ball up the middle from sophomore shortstop Chase Bourgeois led to a walk-off to give Texas Lutheran Baseball a 2-1 win over Schreiner on Friday at Katt-Isbel Field. The Bulldogs (16-11) trailed 1-0 in the third before an Adam Peavy RBI single tied the game 1-1, which is where the game would remain until the tenth. Peavy finished 2-for-3 with two walks, an RBI and a stolen base. Hayden Kesselring finished 3-for-5 with a double. In the bottom of the 10th inning, Adam Peavy walked before Aiden Spires would come in to pinch run for him. After Spires stole second, Carson Draehn laid down his second sacrifice bunt of the game to move Spires to third. Tyler Post would reach on a fielder's choice as the Mountaineers opted to get Spires out in a rundown. Post would use heads up baserunning during the rundown to advance all the way to third with two outs. Chase Bourgeois would hit a ground ball up the middle that the Mountaineers shortstop would bobble for the Bulldogs to walk it off.

The outdoor complex at Reynolds Field has been busy this past week and things are not slowing down going into this weekend. No field has been in more use than the baseball diamond this week and the University of Northwestern (Minn.) kicked off a busy weekend on the UNW campus with a UMAC contest against Martin Luther. The game marks the first of a three game set and the Eagles took the opener in decisive fashion, 11-2. After three innings of play between the Eagles and the Knights, a blowout win for the Eagles did not seem to be the most likely scenario to unfold. Martin Luther took an early two run lead before UNW would score 11 unanswered runs to run away with the victory. Aaron Severson was 3-5 with two RBIs while Grady Karges had two hits and three runs batted in.

Sophomore Erik Sibbach twirled a five-hit shutout, classmate Eli Somers homered, and Stevens defeated No. 25 Arcadia 9-0 Friday in a MAC Freedom matchup at Dobbelaar Field. Graduate student Michael Reyes matched Somers with two RBI and all nine Duck starters reached base at least once as Stevens improved to 15-8 on the year and to 7-3 in conference play. The victory snapped Arcadia's two-game winning streak in the all-time series and was Stevens' first win over the Knights in Hoboken since Apr. 8, 2022, which is when the teams last tangled at Dobbelaar Field – the teams played four games in the Keystone State and three in Punta Gorda, Flordia. Kevin Wheeler singled and walked to lead Arcadia, who fell to 16-8 on the year and to 7-3 in the MAC Freedom. Stevens' victory snapped the Knights' seven game losing streak and handed Arcadia its first shutout loss since April 13, 2019, when the Knights failed to score in both ends of a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader against Hood. Sibbach (7-1) silenced the Arcadia bats from the opening pitch, allowing just one baserunner through the first five innings. The Knights entered the contest averaging 13.5 runs across their previous seven contests. The Boxford, Massachusetts native walked one and struck out three in hurling his first career complete game. Four of Arcadia's five hits came in the final two innings.

Junior Josh McGee launched a solo home run over the right field fence in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie as the Penn State Abington Nittany Lions went on to defeat Lancaster Bible College, 4-3, in game one of a three-game. Abington trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. After the first two batters retired with flyouts to centerfield, junior Jake Fallers drew a two-out walk. Fallers advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt at first and then went on to steal third base a few pitches later. However, a wild throw to third by the Chargers' catcher sailed into left field allowing Fallers to score the tying run. In the bottom of the eighth, McGee put the Nittany Lions ahead for the first time with a two-out solo home run that sailed over the right field fence. It marked his first career home run in an Abington uniform. Freshman Logan Woodward (1-1) pitched a perfect ninth inning retiring the Chargers in order to seal the one-run victory. Woodward faced only six batters in his two innings and struck out the side in the eighth.
