Hood College leaned on the pitching staff led by Skylar Albright to suppress a tough York lineup as the Blazers walk away with a 7-0 win over their conference foe. Albright blanked the Spartans early as he only allowed four hits in his first five innings of work. The top of the second inning started with two Spartan singles but Albright proceeded to retire the next three batters to end the inning. The walk he issued in the fourth inning was negated with a 4-6-3 double play and the runner on third in the fifth inning was stranded as York's Prendergast grounded out. Leading 4-0, the Blazers were able to add a couple more runs on the board and hold off York with help from the bullpen with momentum into the weekend. The University of Dallas defeated #12 Trinity 1-0 in the opening game of their three-game conference series on Friday. The Crusaders improved to 20-11 overall on the year and 8-7 in conference play. Adrian Montenegro scattered three hits and struck out seven across 7.0 innings of shutout ball, improving to a 7-1 record on the back of one of his best performances of the season. Offense was difficult to come by for both teams, but one run was all it took to decide the outcome. Paxton Huff notched the Crusaders first hit of the game, a ground-rule double, to lead off the fourth inning. As he has done more than anyone in the conference this season, Huff stole third base, setting up Simon Turner (pictured) for the one-out RBI single that decided the game. The Tigers managed just two baserunners from the fourth inning through the ninth as Montenegro continued to mow batters down. Collin Johnson threw a scoreless inning of relief in the eighth, and in perhaps a move of sheer brilliance Dylan Krause was called upon to record the save in the ninth. This was the first time Krause has been used out of the bullpen since February of last year, notching his first career save in the process. The victory snaps a 27-game winning streak by Trinity against the Crusaders, whose last win against the Tigers came in the 2014 season.

When the University of Northwestern made the drive down to Mankato on Friday afternoon; they knew what, and who, was waiting for them. UNW's road trip down US-169 brought them face-to-face with the best that UMAC Baseball has to offer. Before the game on Friday afternoon, the Bethany Lutheran Vikings were able to say that they were in first place and undefeated in the UMAC. After a matchup with the Eagles, the Vikings still have possession of that first place position, but they no longer have the claim of being unbeaten in the conference. This weekend put two of the top teams in the conference on the diamond together at ISG Field in Mankato. Entering the three game series, Bethany Lutheran was 12-0 in UMAC play and Northwestern was tight on their heels at 9-3. That gap got a little bit smaller on Friday afternoon. The Eagles won the opening game of the three game set; handing the Vikings their first conference loss of the season, 11-4. Aaron Severson was 3-4, with a run scored, and four RBIs. Grady Karges was 3-5 while scoring a run and driving in a run. Braden Storts, Mark Bligh, Isaac Pilon, and Benji Bruce all had two hits each. The Eagles collected a big win on Friday but the series against the Vikings is far from over. The two teams will play two more times in Mankato on Saturday. There is an added urgency around this series as the Eagles are now two games behind the Vikings for the conference lead.
