The storybook season for Centre continued as a walk-off home run by Ben Prather in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Colonels to a 4-3 victory over the Millsaps Majors, advancing them to the next round of the SAA Tournament. Centre faced the prospects of an elimination game later in the day as they went into the bottom of the ninth, but the senior class came through three straight times as Karson Thompson, Conner Jackson and Josh Cunningham all delivered consecutive clutch hits, with Cunningham's shot going into the gap for an RBI double. With runners on second and third, Millsaps made a pitching change and Prather hit the second pitch he saw near one of the light poles in left center field for the walk-off winner.

Charlie Teel, John Bagwell and Hunter Herndon, the top three in Sewanee's batting order, combined for eight hits and five runs scored and Henry Shields tossed 3.1 scoreless innings for the save in Sewanee's 9-5 win against Berry College in the opening round of the SAA Championships on Saturday in Mount Berry, Ga. Will Yarbro added two hits, Blake Pou scored twice and drove in a run and Luke Short collected two RBIs as well in the win. With the victory, the Tigers (16-23) win the best 2-of-3 series and advance to next weekend's four-team double elimination tournament. Sewanee scored eight runs in the first four innings to take control of the game, including two in the third and four in the fourth. Mike Lewishall, the hero in Friday's win, drove in a run with a single and Pou scored on a wild pitch in the third. Herndon and Pou recorded RBI singles and Short's two-run single put the Tigers in front, 8-2. Berry (28-14) pulled within 8-5 with a three-run sixth inning but Sewanee added a run in the seventh on an error by the Vikings. Shields entered the game in the sixth with the bases loaded and allowed a two-run single but retired the side in order in the seventh, hit a batter in the eighth and gave up a double in the ninth, but the Vikings never got more than one runner on base against the lefthander. He allowed two hits, did not walk a batter and struck out four for his second save.

One day removed from clinching the 2024 University Athletic Association Championship, 17th-ranked Case Western Reserve University split a doubleheader against Washington University, falling 6-2 in the first game before bouncing back for an 8-3 win in the late affair at Nobby's Ballpark in Cleveland on Saturday afternoon. The Bears jumped out to an early lead, and despite having opportunities throughout the game, the Spartans struggled to get runners across the plate in a 6-2 loss. Nick Harms homered twice in the second game of the day and senior Tyler Horvath was nearly unhittable in relief, as the Spartans topped WashU 8-3 in the second game of the day. Harms went two-for-five in the game with a pair of solo home runs and now has nine home runs in 11 career games against WashU.

Senior John Zarnowski reached both the 100 career hits and 100 career RBI milestones as Scranton (25-9, 14-7 Landmark) swept a doubleheader from the Moravian Greyhounds (15-22, 8-15 Landmark) on Saturday at Volpe Field in Scranton. The Royals took game one by a score of 8-5 and then notched a 12-3 victory in the nightcap. Scranton took the lead for good with a three-run fifth inning and held on for an 8-5 victory in game one. Roanoke College swept No. 18 Randolph-Macon College 9-7 and 14-8 Saturday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader and wrap-up the 2024 regular season. It ended up being a scintillating Senior Day for the Otterbein baseball program in front of a nice crowd at Fishbaugh Field, where the Cardinals escaped a wild opening game (in extra innings) before pulling away to win the rematch more comfortably against a gritty Muskingum squad. The Cardinals began the day with a 5-3 victory in the first contest on a walk-off, two-run homer from senior Jamie Perebzak in the 11th inning. Otterbein then used that momentum to build an early lead in the second affair before cruising to a 10-3 outcome. Afterwards, the program celebrated a whopping 14 true seniors for their everlasting, ongoing and unique contributions since arriving during the middle of a pandemic four years ago. Many of them will walk Sunday afternoon at graduation. Sixth-year senior Braydon McCloskey sang a rousing national anthem to launch action at the park and then, if all that weren't enough, the Cards officially clinched a spot in the upcoming four-team OAC Tournament thanks to other results around the league.

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy was defeated in walk-off fashion in game one, 6-5, but bounced back with a 25-11 triumph in game two to split a doubleheader at Manhattanville on Saturday. USMMA moved to 22-11 (12-2 Skyline), while Manhattanville saw its record go to 15-18 (7-9). In the opener, USMMA tied the game at 4-4 with three runs in the fifth. The Mariners then went up 5-4 in the top of the seventh as Charles Cahalan launched a two-out solo home run to left. Manhattanville, however, loaded the bases with no outs and scored twice in the bottom of the frame. After an RBI groundout tied the game, an intentional walk reloaded the bases before an error allowed the winning run to score. The Mariners scored seven runs in the third, five in the fifth and eight in the eighth as part of a 25-run outburst. Manhattanville drew close in the bottom of the sixth with four two-out runs that made it a 17-10 ballgame. The Valiants then made it 17-11 in the seventh courtesy of a bases-loaded walk. USMMA posted yet another crooked number in the eighth, this time scoring eight runs on just three hits to take a 25-11 lead. Ben Bridges had an RBI single in the frame and Garrett Clapsaddle worked a bases-loaded walk, while Tyler Reistetter added a two-run double as part of the inning.

Sophomore Brendan Flynn drove in six runs in the opener and junior Sam Malgeri reached base five times in game two but Rhode Island College got past Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference doubleheader at Robbie Mills Field on Saturday. Flynn launched a three-run homer during a six-run third in the opener, as PSU erased an early deficit for a 7-5 lead. Flynn added an RBI double in a three-run fourth, then smashed a two-run single in the fifth as the Panthers extended the lead to 13-6. RIC chipped away in the sixth, then tied the game with a three-run blast in the seventh before tacking on insurance runs in the eighth and ninth for a 17-13 win. RIC built up a 7-0 lead over the first three innings of game two, but the Panthers clawed back in the fourth. An Anchormen’s error allowed two runs to score, and sophomore Chris Faherty and graduate student Alex Rives added run-scoring singles to pull within 7-4. RIC tacked on three runs in the seventh. The Panthers scored once and had the bases loaded with one down in the bottom of the inning but couldn’t pull closer and RIC got the run back in the eighth for an 11-5 lead. PSU plated a run in the bottom of the ninth, but the visitors worked out of a bases-loaded jam to hold on for the 11-6 win.

FDU-Florham (14-24, 7-14 MAC Free) clinched the series win against Delaware Valley (13-24, 4-17 MAC Free) with a massive final inning in game one that led to a 15-7 win, but the Devils could not complete the sweep with a 15-5 loss in game two. Aaron Santos and Jake Hendershot both led the way with four hits, three RBI and two runs scored. Brody Donovan notched three hits on the afternoon with a home run and two runs scored while Tyrus Chippendale also collected three hits with two RBI and two runs scored.

With the victories, the Eagles end their campaign with 20 wins, a 10-game improvement from last season. However, with Alvernia's loss to York in game two of their doubleheader in Reading, the Eagles just missed out on the MAC Commonwealth Tournament. In his final start as an Eagle in game one, John Beck pitched a complete game gem, tying his career-high with 10 strikeouts in his fourth win of the season and his 12th career victory. He received a lot of support, as the Eagles recorded eight hits and scored five runs in the first inning to take a lead they would not relinquish. Stevenson struck first in game two, plating a run in the bottom of the third, but the Eagles answered with two runs in the fourth to take a lead they would not relinquish. Ryan Turzani scored Meehan on a sacrifice bunt, and Bamesberger scored Schilling on an RBI single to put the Eagles ahead 2-1. The Presidents scored early and often in the game one victory over the Tomcats. W&J scored 18 runs on 18 hits in the opener. The Presidents scored in each of the first four innings and in five of their six at bats overall in the seven-inning shortened contest. The Presidents finished off the sweep by scoring 11 more runs on 14 hits in game two.

University of Chicago welcomed Grinnell to J. Kyle Anderson Field as they kept play in the Midwest Conference rolling right along. The Maroons were never able to take control of the lead in the first contest, losing 9-6, but used a trio on round trippers in game two, winning 15-8, to split the action on Saturday. University of Chicago (15-20, 14-6 MWC) never led in game one against Grinnell (14-19, 7-10 MWC) after spotting them four runs in the top of the second inning. A wind blowing from the west kept the offense going in game two and made the left field fence a super short porch for any balls hit with elevation that way. The Maroons put this wind tunnel to the test with three home runs in the contest with Braden Jirovec, Erik Rindner, and Richard Lu getting credit for the round trippers.

DePauw topped Kenyon, 9-3, in the opening game of its North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader and the Owls came back for a 17-5 win in eight innings in the nightcap. Carter Knoll gave DePauw the lead for good in the opener with a two-run single in the fifth that brought home Macon and Grady Johnson. The Tigers put together a five-run seventh as Danny Glimco hit a two-run homer. Giio Giuliani's solo homer in the eighth wrapped up the scoring. In the nightcap, Kenyon grabbed a 5-0 lead with a five-run second and the Tigers responded with five in the third on Louis Florida's RBI double and Glimco's grand slam. That blast, the 22nd of his career, broke the DePauw record held by Kyle Callahan (2019-22). It also was the third grand slam of his career. The Owls, however, scored seven in the fifth, two in the seventh and three in the eighth to seal the win.

Christopher Newport starter Dylan Weber combined with two relievers for a three-hit shutout on the road in Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon as the Captains (23-8, 2-1) earned an 11-0 blanking over Mary Washington. CNU and Salisbury will match up on May 4 with the top seed and conference tournament hosting duties on the line.

In a battle between two teams vying for the North Coast Athletic Conference regular-season championship, No. 2 nationally-ranked Denison University settled for a two-game split on the road at Wittenberg University. The Big Red lost 10-7 in game won before holding on to win 9-8 in game number two. With the split, Denison remains one game behind Wittenberg in the loss column for first place in the NCAC standings. In the opener, Noah Leib tied the game at 6-6 but unfortunately, Wittenberg quickly snatched the lead back with a three-run fifth inning of its own that started with a leadoff double and featured two passed balls and another two-run home run by the Tigers. After leaving the tying run on base in the sixth, Denison managed just two baserunners over the final three innings and was never really able to threaten the Tigers down the stretch. In game two, Wittenberg was mashing home runs all day long, but Denison continued its doubles parade as they built a 9-3 Big Red. The third home run of game two for Wittenberg came in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run blast to left field as the Big Red were finally forced to move to the bullpen to try and finish things off. The man getting the call to try and finish it off for Denison was George Viebrock. With two outs, runners at the corners and the tying run just 90 feet away, Viebrock battled back from a 2-0 count to pitch three straight strikes and end it with a called strike three.
