As announced by Gordon College Director of Athletics Jason Linders this afternoon, Shane Demers has been named the Head Baseball Coach for the Fighting Scots.
The Gordon graduate returned back home to Wenham this past summer after a one-year coaching stint at Brown University to become the Scots' assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. This past semester, Demers managed all aspects of the recruitment process, led individual hitting and fielding groups during the fall season, and was responsible for scouting reports.
"I am extremely excited to guide these talented young men in their walk with Christ while developing their skills, character, and passion for baseball, said Demers. "I am committed to growing this program both spiritually and athletically, instilling the values of integrity, discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. I look forward to challenging each player to reach their full potential, focusing on skill development, mental toughness, and the pursuit of excellence. I am eager to be a Christ-centered leader who mentors, motivates, and models the values we hold dear in both faith and sport. I want to thank President Hammond, Jason Linders, Jon Welty Peachey, the athletic leadership team, and Gordon Athletics for the opportunity to lead this program. A special thank you to my parents, my siblings—Dean, Casey, and CJ—and my fiancée, Jenna-Marie, for supporting me throughout my playing and coaching career. This would not be possible without you. I look forward to seeing what God has planned for the Gordon Baseball program."
Demers served as an Assistant Baseball Coach (Outfield and Assistant Hitting Coach) at the Ivy League ranks where he coached two All-Conference players (one outfield and one DH). He was responsible for recruiting prospective student-athletes, developing practice plans, scouting reports, running and managing prospect camps and coordinating team meals.
Prior to Brown, Demers worked for Trackman Baseball as a Baseball Data Operations Intern, collecting data from MILB and NCAA games as well as video annotating. While pursuing his undergraduate degrees in Recreation, Sport, and Wellness and Business Administration, Demers interned for the New Britain Bees in game day operations in 2022.
Arguably one of the most decorated and talented players to don the Fighting Scots jersey, Demers started 105 of the 107 games played, boasting a .551 career slugging percentage, a .465 on base percentage, a .335 batting average, and a .976 fielding percentage. The power hitter holds the Fighting Scots' records for career runs (99), single season OPS (1.334), single season slugging percentage (.821), and single season at-bats (149). In 2023, Demers had his best season of his career with 50 hits, 39 runs scored, and 34 RBIs to earn himself D3baseball.com All-Region honors, First Team All-Conference (CCC), and College Sports Communicators (CSC) All-Academic District Team. Additionally, in 2022, Demers earned All-Conference honors 2022 Demers earned Second Team All-Conference.
"We are excited to welcome Shane as our next Head Baseball Coach," said Linders. "Throughout the search process, Shane provided a clear vision and plan to lift Gordon Baseball to new heights while disciplining young men during an influential time in their lives. As a former student-athlete at Gordon, his passion and knowledge for not only the game, but desire to build a program with Christ as the foundation will engineer a winning culture on and off the diamond. We look forward to this new era of Gordon Baseball."
