David beat Goliath. It wasn't with a slingshot on Tuesday night but with a big night on the mound and at the plate. Playing the role of David was Pacific Lutheran University, scoring early, including a solo home run from Ethan Keintz in a 3-1 non-conference victory over Division I University of Washington. Tuesday was the first meeting between the Lutes and Huskies since 2001. That game saw now Head Coach Nolan Soete score the game's opening run before the host Huskies snuck away with a walkoff 4-3 win. Pacific Lutheran athletics photo |
Immaculata played their first home game of 2025 on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Penn State Abington by a score of 12-3. Immaculata earns their third win on the season as the Nittany Lions move to 6-8 on the year. Stephen Devanney, perfect through three innings, struck out eight batters, allowing five hits and two walks. He surrendered just one run prior to the ninth inning. Tuesday's win marked Head Coach Josh Copskey's 88th at the helm of the program, making him Immaculata's all-time winningest coach. Copskey surpassed Kevin Schneider's previously held record of 87 wins, as Schneider managed the Mighty Macs from 2016 through 2021. Copskey carries an 88-56 record as Immaculata's skipper after defeating Penn State Abington, the program he coached prior to his arrival at Immaculata.
Mt. Aloysius College swept Plymouth State University in a non-conference doubleheader, 10-2 and 9-7, at the Myrtle Beach Spring Training on Tuesday. Plymouth State was forced to play from behind early in game one, as the Mounties put up six runs in the first inning. PSU plated single runs in the second and third, but Mt. Aloysius maintained a 10-2 lead. The Panthers scored twice in the seventh but were unable to complete the rally. In game two, the Mounties carried a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the third before graduate student Jackson Curtis tied the game with a two-run single. Mt. Aloysius answered with four runs in the fourth. PSU cut the deficit 8-7, but the Mounties added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Plymouth State brought the tying run to the plate in both the sixth and seventh innings but couldn’t complete the comeback.
Five players registered multi-RBI games as the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy took control with a five-run first and rolled to a 15-5 victory against FDU-Florham. USMMA improved to 5-6, while FDU-Florham dropped to 7-9. The Mariners sent 10 men to the plate as part of the five-run first frame. The Devils broke through with two runs in third after loading the bases with no outs. Jacob Syversen responded with a strikeout and a fly out, but a two-run single made it a 5-2 ballgame. USMMA promptly answered in the bottom of third as Danny Heck pushed the lead back to five, 7-2, with a two-run blast to left. USMMA offense went right back to work with a two-out rally in the bottom of the fourth. After the first two batters were retired, Garrett Clapsaddle extended the inning with a single. Christian Gamez made it back-to-back singles before a walk to Olivares loaded the bases. Luke Kruer then cleared the bases with a three-run double that put the Mariners up, 10-2. FDU loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth and made it a 13-5 ballgame with a three-run double. The Mariners responded in the bottom of the inning pushing the lead to 15-5.
Getting some of the best results of the season from their pitching and defense, Guilford College (12-3, 2-2 ODAC) rebounded in game one of the 2025 Battle for the 'Boro, handling Greensboro College (12-7, 3-0 USA South), 7-4, on Tuesday afternoon at McBane Field. It was more good work from Tanner Royals who made his third midweek start of the season. His performance was dampened by a late home run, but completing 5.1 innings allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits and a walk against three strikeouts was still plenty effective and netted him his first win of the year, improving to 1-0. Chase Wade was tasked with getting the final six outs and while he did walk one and hit one batter, but he also struck out three to complete his second save of the year and the 11th of his career.
Edgewood wrapped up competition at the Studer's Blue Wahoos Stadium Challenge on a high note Tuesday. They took on the UW-Stout Blue Devils once more. The Eagles (4-7) stopped a Blue Devil (2-8) rally cold in an 8-4 victory. Edgewood College got on the board first in the second inning. Carson Richter hit a single into right field to plate a run. The Eagles added on a pair in the third, with a Dominic Lee double to right center sending one home and a wild pitch adding another for a 3-0 edge. UW-Stout battled back to a draw. They took advantage of a bases loaded opportunity for a walk and an error to each score a run as they cut the lead down to 3-2 in the fifth. An RBI single to right field in the seventh would even the tally. The Eagles took advantage of a bases-loaded opportunity in the eighth. After walking home a run, an error by the left fielder plated three runs as Edgewood College built up a 7-3 lead. A sacrifice fly to right field from the Blue Devils in the bottom of the eighth and a Mac Vesperman sacrifice fly to right in the ninth would wrap up the scoring in the Eagle victory.

Hobart began spring break with a classic pitchers' duel. Today, the Statesmen ended their stay at the Ripken Experience with a day for the hitters. Hobart and Old Westbury combined for 29 runs, 24 hits, 14 stolen bases as the Statesmen outlasted the Panthers 16-13. Hobart won its third straight and six of its last seven to improve to 7-3 on the season. Hobart was on base in every inning and pushed across runs in six of eight innings. Hobart, led by junior Christian Petry's game-high three swipes, finished with 12 stolen bases. Christian Petry reached base on five of his six plate appearances, finishing with two singles, a triple, a walk and a hit-by-pitch. He drove in three runs and scored three runs. The Statesmen broke through for six runs and carried a 13-8 lead into the eighth inning, but Old Westbury had one more rally in its bag of tricks. Hobart pushed across two insurance runs late to secure the win.
William Paterson (11-4) swept a seven-inning doubleheader against Bard (2-9), registering 8-2 and 20-3 victories at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. In the opener, Braden Ramirez finished 1-for-2 with a three-run homer, two bases on balls and three runs scored. Dylan Santos went 1-for-1 with three RBI and a walk, while Devin Daproza was 1-for-2 with two walks and three runs. Senior Ian Metzger tossed all 7.0 innings, allowing two runs, five hits and a walk while matching his career best with eight strikeouts (3-0). In the nightcap, Daproza was 3-for-4, adding a double, triple, three RBI and three runs scored. Santos went 2-for-3 and posted a double, three RBI and two runs. Sophomore Kevin Reiner surrendered two hits and a pair of runs (one earned) during 1.0 inning of relief.
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor earned a 6-3 victory against the number nine ranked Trinity University Tuesday evening in San Antonio. The win improves UMHB's season record to 9-5 while the Tigers fall to 15-5. From the outset, both sides of the field showcased its defense. UMHB took a 5-3 lead in the top of the fifth and extended the lead to 6-3 in the eighth. This rounded out the scoring for the game, securing the victory for the Crusaders. Cameron Talburt led the Cru offensively going 3-5 at the plate with two RBI and a homerun. Carson Hagan and Riley Bender each added one hit, while Tyler Betts added two RBI of his own. UMHB earned six runs off 10 hits with no errors on the night. James McGlumphy earned the win on the mound pitching six complete innings with four strikeouts, allowing eight hits. Nicklas Fenner earned the save with a two-inning outing, only allowing one hit. Isaac Brann made an appearance pitching a complete ninth inning, closing out the victory with a strikeout.
Elizabethtown picked themselves back up Tuesday at home against Catholic after losing their last four games. The Blue Jays downed Catholic, 11-4 where three of the Cardinals four runs came way of solo home runs. Quinten Perilli earned his first win of the season on the mound, striking out four. Perilli also went 2 for 4 with a double, a run, and a RBI. Tommy Kanakos went 2 for 3 with three RBI and RJ Agriss went 2 for 4 with two runs, and two doubles. Alex McClain went 2 for 5 with a run and two RBIs. Catholic's first solo shot home run came in the first inning as they took a 1-0 lead. Elizabethtown took the lead in the second after scoring two and never trailed for the rest of the game.
Sophomore Joshua Scamman tossed five and two third innings of one-run ball to pick up his first win of the season on Tuesday afternoon, as Mitchell College held off Nichols College, 5-3, in non-conference action at Alumni Field. Scamman scattered just two hits and walked five, while striking out a season-high eight batters. Senior Jadon Canelli earned his second save of the spring, entering the game with runners on second and third with one out in the top of the ninth, before retiring the next two batters in order. Senior Michael Gajda went 2-4 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored, belting a two-run homer in the fifth. Sophomore Michael Ficocelli continued his hot hitting, collecting two hits, one RBI, and one run scored in the win.
SUNY New Paltz earned a 12-1 road win over Saint Elizabeth University Tuesday to improve to 7-6 on the season. Xavier Zykoff captured his first win of the season in his best start of the season. He played four innings, allowed just two hits and one earned run with two walks and two strikeouts. Tyler Lopez came in to pitch the final three innings, allowing just two hits and tallied five K's as he secured his first career save. Fabian Apicella went 2-for-3 with one run, four RBI, two walks and a stolen base. Joe Ristano finished 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Ryan Mackle registered 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI and two walks.
Concordia-Chicago took on the North Central (Ill.) in a non-conference matchup, ultimately falling 6-4. Brandon Mahler led at the plate going three-for-four with one RBI and one double. The only other Cougar to record multiple hits on the day was Elijah Hickman (Rensselaer, Ind.) who went two-for-five at the plate with one stolen base. Seven arms worked on the bump for the Cougars with Kyle Connelly and Jackson Brigham as the only two to record a strikeout. The bottom of the seventh would see two hits and two runs for the Cardinals, giving them back the lead, which they would hold for the remainder of the game. With back-to-back three up, three down innings for the Cougars they would be unable to get anyone on base to combat the seventh inning surge and give the Cardinals the 6-4 win.
Down 7-0 early, eighth-ranked Salisbury University scored nine runs in its final two turns at-bat, coming from behind to take down the Washington College Shoremen 11-8 on Tuesday afternoon at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium. The Shoremen exploded for six runs in the third inning. WAC tacked on another in the top of the fourth on a throwing error by the catcher to make it 7-0. The Sea Gulls answered with a pair in the bottom of the fourth and lopped a big chunk off the deficit in the seventh. The Shoremen got one run back in the top of the eighth as Turner legged out a run-scoring infield hit with men on the corners and two down, making it 8-6, but stranded the bases loaded and missed their chance for more. In the home eighth, SU loaded the bases with one out on two walks and a hit batsman. That brought up Noah Burroughs, who ripped a bases-clearing double into the right center gap to vault the Sea Gulls into the lead. Inman followed with an RBI triple, and Wilson brought Inman home with another sac fly to cap a five-run frame and build the margin to 11-8. Bryce Sterling shut it down from there, retiring WAC in order in the ninth to put it in the books.
The Saint Joseph's College Monks traveled to Lewiston, ME, to face the Bates College Bobcats on Tuesday and won 7-1. The Monks got on the scoreboard early with 2 runs in the 1st inning after Junior shortstop, Luke Doughty led off with a double. Doughty scored on a sacrifice fly from Dawson Gundlah. senior 3rd Baseman, Michael Wearne scored after freshman DH, Ethan Belvin singled to the shortstop. The Bobcats scoredt their lone run in the bottom of the 3rd inning off a home run from Keagan Ryan. To start the 4th inning, freshman catcher, Nic Frink hit a home run to give the Monks a 3-1 lead. Belvin scored later in the inning when junior 2nd Baseman, Jack Moltenbrey singled to right field. Moltenbrey scored in the top of the 6th from a single off of Doughty's bat. In the top of the 9th, Frink scored off a fielder's choice that came from the bat of freshman first baseman, Nick Villano. The Monks scored their final run when junior left fielder, Ryan Kastle singled through the left side, scoring senior right fielder, Alex Moore.
Erasing a three-run deficit at home on Tuesday afternoon, Christopher Newport earned a 6-5 win and improved to 11-9 on the season. The Captains scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to complete the comeback and held off a late rally attempt by the Lakers (7-4) with bullpen arms Eli Novario and Colin D'Arcy leading the way. CNU leaned on a quality start from junior left-hander Ryan Morrison (3-1) as he captured his team-leading third win of the season. Morrison had a three-run second, but allowed just one run on four hits over his other five innings of work to keep the game close. He faced just three batters in the first, third, and fourth innings while stranding three baserunners over his final two innings of work. Morrison finished his start with 6.0 innings pitched and four runs, three earned, on two hits and two walks. He struck out five batters before handing the ball off to Novario in the top of the 7th. By then, the Captains had staked their starter to a 6-4 lead thanks to timely hitting leading to single runs in the third and fourth and a decisive four-run sixth inning.
WPI exploded for 13 runs on a dominant offensive performance to defeat Roger Williams on Tuesday afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex. The Engineers improve to 7-3 overall, while the Hawks dip to 3-7. Tommy Burns (Morris Plains, NJ) led the WPI offense, going 2-for-5 with a three-run home run. Andrew Cash (Marlboro, MA) went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Jacob Wiberg (Exeter, NH) also had three hits, including a pair of doubles. Matt Shea (Andover, MA) contributed two hits, two RBIs, and three runs scored, while Chuck Cappello (Southboro, MA) and Zachary Roethlein (Pomfret Center, CT) each added an RBI extra-base hit. On the mound, Luke Blandino (Eden, NY) earned the win with six dominant innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out eight. Michael Domino (Marlboro, MA) tossed a pair of scoreless innings of relief while Alex Foss (Sandwich, MA) closed the game with a scoreless ninth inning to secure the victory.
TCNJ secured a hard-earned sweep in their doubleheader against Saint John's (Minn.) Tuesday afternoon, cruising to an 11-3, Game 1 victory before winning Game 2, 5-2 to finish the day unbeaten. There was little to separate the sides in the first two innings of Game 1 before it was the Lions (7-5) turning one hit into three runs to open the scoring in the third. The Johnnies (7-4) cut into the lead on two occasions, but with the score 7-3 heading into the seventh it was the Lions pouring on four more runs in a miscue-filled half inning to put the game out of reach. With game two level at 2-2, the Lions turned to Evan Frank out of the bullpen. The sophomore responded by allowing a lone hit in the sixth, setting up TCNJ to score three in the bottom of the inning en route to the win.
Adrian College held its home opener on Tuesday afternoon at Nicolay Field. The Bulldogs hosted Heidelberg University and came away with a 15-3 victory. Adrian pitched by committee tossing six pitchers in the contest while also hitting three home runs at the plate. Adrian grabbed a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first after a three-run homer to center by David Kedrow. Heidelberg answered with a run in the top of the third, but Kedrow responded with his second home run of the game to lead 5-1. In the fourth inning, Phillip Vilardo singled in a run on a perfectly executed bunt which was followed by a 2-RBI single by Ryan Davis to lead 8-1. Heidelberg scored a run in the fifth and one in the sixth to take the score to 8-3. In the seventh inning, Adrian posted six runs on the scoreboard on a sacrifice fly from Kedrow, an RBI single from Jake Burns, a 2-RBI single from Andrew Clouse, and a 2-run homer from Jack Boike to lead 14-3. Adrian added another run in the eighth inning after an RBI double from Davis to win 15-3.
Keuka College earned a doubleheader sweep of Framingham State University on their spring trip in Florida on Tuesday. Keuka College (5-3) defeated the Rams 15-9 in game one and then secured the sweep with a 9-2 victory in game two. The Wolves took control of the game early on Tuesday, building an 8-0 lead after two innings. The lead was more than enough for Hunter Corkran. The first year pitched went six innings for the Wolves with three strikeouts. He allowed just five hits and didn't surrender a walk. Playing as the visiting team, the Wolves kept the momentum going in game two. Kyle Wood had an RBI double in the sixth and Mike Dutch had an RBI single in the seventh to serve as insurance. The Wolves closed it out for the 9-2 victory.
Freshman Maximus Mullins hit his first career home run in game two to help McDaniel College split a doubleheader with St. Joseph's (L.I.) at The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Green Terror (6-8-1) had an early lead in game one before the Golden Eagles (7-6) rattled off eight runs over the middle innings to take the game 10-8. McDaniel turned the tide and won 6-4 in game two. McDaniel mounted a late comeback but fell just short in the game one loss. St. Joseph's (L.I.) tied game two in the fourth inning after a steal of home and a sacrifice fly. But Mullins gave McDaniel the lead back on one swing, sending a two-run blast into left field and breaking the tie, 5-3. A sacrifice bunt put another run on the board for the Golden Eagles, who couldn't generate any more offense after the fifth inning. Joey Hubinger added an insurance run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly to put the Green Terror ahead for good, 6-4.
Texas Lutheran exploded with a trio of big innings and rolled to a 13-1 win in seven innings over Howard Payne on Tuesday at Don Shepard Park in Brownwood. The Bulldogs (15-6, 8-4 SCAC) tagged Yellow Jackets pitching for 14 hits, including three doubles and two triples. Mason Goudeau went 4-for-5 with a triple, two RBI and one run scored, while Brayden Sprencel was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Carson Hues pitched four innings and allowed just one hit and a walk. He struck out three batters and picked up his second win of the season. Isaiah Ramirez and Vlario Prado combined to close out the win with Prado allowing the one unearned run. Texas Lutheran unloaded six runs in the first inning to take a big lead early on. They then tacked on three more runs in the fifth inning. Leading 9-0, TLU pushed the game into run-rule territory with four more runs in the top of the seventh. After loading the bases, Cooper Jen hit a two-RBI single before Mason Goudeau hit a two-RBI triple to cross the final Bulldogs runs of the game. The Yellow Jackets got an unearned run across in the bottom of the seventh to avoid the shutout. That was the only run the Bulldogs would allow in the game.
