William Paterson Sweeps Bard During Seven-Inning Doubleheader, 8-2 and 20-3

 

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson baseball team (11-4) swept a seven-inning doubleheader against Bard (2-9), registering 8-2 and 20-3 victories March 18 at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

 

GAME ONE

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Pioneers seized a 3-0 first-inning lead. Junior third baseman Jordan Brown led off with an infield single and moved to second on a wild pitch, sophomore second baseman Devin Daproza had a base hit to left and senior center fielder Braden Ramirez walked to load the bags. Sophomore first baseman Ty Kobylakiewicz plated one run with a groundout and junior shortstop Dylan Santos singled in two runners for a 3-0 edge.
  • Bard used two hits, a hit by pitch and a squeeze bunt to make it a 3-2 game in the middle of the third.
  • Daproza, Ramirez and Kobylakiewicz walked to start the home half of the fifth, and a Santos sacrifice fly and Angel Colon RBI-walk pushed it to a 5-2 WP lead.
  • William Paterson tacked on three more runs in the sixth with a Brown single and stolen base, Daproza walk, failed pickoff attempt and three-run Ramirez homer.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Ramirez finished 1-for-2 with a three-run homer, two bases on balls and three runs scored. Santos went 1-for-1 with three RBI and a walk, while Daproza was 1-for-2 with two walks and three runs.
  • Senior Ian Metzger tossed all 7.0 innings, allowing two runs, five hits and a walk while matching his career best with eight strikeouts (3-0).

 

GAME TWO

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • WP jumped out to a 3-0 advantage during the top of the first, thanks to a Brown leadoff base hit, Daproza double, Santos RBI-single, Colon base hit and run-scoring fielder's choice by senior catcher Eliot Germanson.
  • The Pioneers added three more in the second on a Tom Radigan walk, Brown base hit, Daproza base on balls, Ramirez RBI-groundout and Santos two-run double.
  • William Paterson made it an 11-0 game during the top of the third with a Daproza RBI-single and Ramirez grand slam.
  • The Raptors got on the board with one run in the home half of the third.
  • Germanson doubled in Colon, and Radigan doubled in Germanson, for a 14-1 score in the fourth.
  • Bard crossed the plate twice in the fourth, 14-3.
  • William Paterson tacked on six runs in the fifth, utilizing a wild pitch, passed ball, Thomas Jova two-run homer, Brown run-scoring single and Daproza RBI-triple.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Daproza was 3-for-4, adding a double, triple, three RBI and three runs scored. Santos went 2-for-3 and posted a double, three RBI and two runs.
  • Junior Jose Marte gave up a run and hit with two strikeouts over 3.0 innings (1-0).
  • Sophomore Kevin Reiner surrendered two hits and a pair of runs (one earned) during 1.0 inning of relief. Senior Neel Telidevara struck out one and allowed a hit in 1.0 inning, and junior Nick Durso registered three outs via strikeout.  

 

UP NEXT:

  • William Paterson will resume play at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational Thursday, March 20, against Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 12:30 p.m.
