Trey Castile threw his 300th career strikeout and Simpson College split its first road American Rivers Conference contests of the season against Luther. Simpson won the opener 2-2 and Luther prevailed in the nightcap 13-1. Norwich too both games from Rivier in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Garrity Field. The Cadets won game one, 11-10, in 13 innings and prevailed in game two, 9-4, in eight innings. Rivier got off to a 5-0 lead in the opener. When Norwich rallied for a six-run bottom half, they took a 8-6 lead. Sebastien Reis once again came up big at the plate in the seventh, tying the score up at 8-8 on a two-RBI single to left, which eventually forced extra innings.The Raiders took the lead in the top of the 12th, scoring a run on an Aliberti single. The Cadets responded with an RBI single of their own in the 12th to keep the game going. The Cadets walked it off with their second batter of the 13th inning with a solo homer over the fence in left. Norwich took an 8-0 lead into the sixth inning and in the bottom of the seventh, Norwich scored one time on a wild pitch to make it 9-4. In the top of the eighth, Rivier threatened with two on and one out, but were unable to push the runners over the plate. The game was then called due to darkness.
Junior Nico Lambros delivered the game-winning single in the bottom of the 10th inning to finish off Union's sweep of Vassar College in the Garnet Chargers' Liberty League opener on Friday afternoon at Prentiss Field. Union won the openere 3-2 and the nightcap 6-5. Lambros had three hits and drove in two runs on the day for Union (13-6, 2-0 Liberty League), while classmate Caleb Miller recorded a team-best four hits on the day. Senior Dan Sheeran also had three hits and first-year AJ Cutler and senior Sam Strazza both joined Lambros with a pair of RBIs on the afternoon.
Seth Albert scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth to help Clarkson University pick up a doubleheader split against Ithaca College, dropping the first 6-4 but taking the nightcap 5-4 on Friday afternoon. In the opening contest, the Golden Knights jumped on the Ithaca starter, plating four runs in the first frame. The Bombers were held off the board until the top of the fifth when they tied the score with four runs of their own. After the first, Clarkson was held relatively quiet by long reliever Jack Coyler. Coyler didn't allow a baserunner until the fifth when the Knights did challenge with runners on the corners. Coming up empty that inning proved costly, as Ithaca scored the go-ahead run in the sixth with two outs. McDermett doubled to right to score one and Fantel singled in another run to make it 6-4. In game two, Ithaca scored twice in the second to start things off and heading to the ninth, held a 4-3 lead. Down to their last out in the ninth, Clarkson would end up tying the score and winning on a wild pitch as Albert scampered home with the winning run.
Eastern Connecticut State University split with Vermont State University Castleton winning 5-4 in extra inning with Castleton winning the second game by an identical score. ECSU turned an inning-ending double play in the bottom of the 11th inning to avoid being walked off on its home field, and the Warriors scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 12th inning on centerfielder Ray Leonzi's RBI double for a 5-4, 12-inning Little East Conference victory over Castleton in the first game of a doubleheader Friday at the Eastern Baseball Stadium. VTSU Castleon (4-14, 1-3 LEC) forced extra innings by scoring two tying runs in the bottom of the ninth inning on Eastern's (12-5, 3-1 LEC) throwing error on a throwing error on a potential game-ending double play. In the second game, Eastern managed more than one hit in just one inning as three Castleton pitchers combined on a six-hitter, and the Spartans scored all five of their runs in the third inning six straight batters reached safely in a 5-4 victory that snapped a 12-game losing streak at the hands of Eastern.
Carter Stebane's walk off RBI single punctuated the first of UW-Oshkosh's two wins over UW-Platteville on Friday. The Titans defeated the Pioneers by scores of 8-7 and 8-4 to complete their third season sweep of Platteville in five seasons. Mason Kirchberg led off the bottom half of the ninth with a single before Jack McKellips came out to pinch run. McKellips moved to second on a Brenden Max single and broke the tie on Stebane's single to left center. Nick Shiu paced Oshkosh by hitting 5-for-9 with a walk and a two-run home run while tallying four RBIs and three runs. For the first time in program history, Keuka College swept St. John Fisher University in a doubleheader. Keuka College (8-8, 2-3 Empire 8) won the first game of the Empire 8 Conference doubleheader 4-1. The second game took extra-innings, but the Wolves prevailed 6-5 over the Cardinals for the sweep. In the opener, starting pitcher Keegan Ferris was in control all game, keeping the host Cardinals off balanced at the plate. Keegan Ferris got the complete-game victory for the Green and Gold in game one. He struck out three in his seven innings of work. Game two would go to extra innings tied at 3-3. Tyler Lewandowski led off the tenth with a single and was bunted to second. Lewandowski stole third which led Fisher to decide to intentionally walk Kyle Wood. Wood stole second, and the Cardinals decided to intentionally walk Carlos Fantauzzi to load the bases with one out. Mike Dutch was next up. He would be hit by the pitch to force in a run, giving Keuka the lead. Ethan Drinon came to the plate and worked a walk to force in another run. Logan Meisner pinch hit for the Wolves and he too was hit by the pitch to force in a third run as Keuka led 6-3. St. John Fisher did not go quietly as the Cardinals rallied in the bottom of the inning. They scored a pair of runs and got the tying run to third base, but Jesse Capitano got a flyout to end the game with Keuka defeating St. John Fisher 6-5 to earn the sweep. With the sweep, Keuka College earns their second and third wins ever against St. John Fisher University in 48 games. The previous only Keuka win was a 1-0 shutout victory over Fisher in 2003. Keuka College earned their 300th victory in program history with the sweep.
Andrew Mazzone broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning with a two-run homer, and Blaise Heher added a three-run double as No. 9 ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps picked up a 9-4 win over No. 2 La Verne in the first game of a huge three-game series at Cougar Stadium. CMS had one hit in the first seven innings, which was a solo homer from Nate Seluga to tie the game 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth. Seluga then led off the eighth inning with his second hit, and the second for CMS, with an infield single, which was followed by a big two-run blast from Mazzone to put the Stags ahead 5-3. CMS kept the offense coming and tacked on four more runs in the inning to pull away. Dillon Martin followed with a single and came home on an RBI single from Didrickson to push the lead to 6-3. Carter Bennett and Slader Spoor drew walks, and Heher cleared the bases with a double into the right-center field gap to make it a 9-3 game. La Verne got one run back in the ninth on a sacrifice fly, but that was the only run the Leopards could muster against Parker McGraw, who threw four innings of relief, allowing just two hits and striking out five to get the win and improve to 4-0 on the season.
No. 16 Misericordia University opened its MAC Freedom series with DeSales with a 7-5 win in Center Valley, Friday. Max Oliver allowed just four hits over 7.1 innings to earn the win and Luke Leventhall got the final five outs for the save. The Cougars scored in each of the first three innings to take a 5-0 lead. Josh Burger singled with one out in the sixth and moved to second on Jack Regenye's single up the middle. Burger went to third on Bollinger's fly out to right and scored on a double-steal. Brooks Kanwisher singled to right to make it 7-2. DeSales rallied for three runs in the eighth and Leventhall induced a comebacker to the mound to strand two base-runners in the bottom of the ninth to close out the game.

MIT hit three home runs to defeat No. 7 Salve Regina, 13-3, in seven innings in game one of a NEWMAC doubleheader on Friday at Fran O'Brien Field. Salve Regina was leading game two, 2-0, in the top of the fourth when the game was suspended. The remainder of the game will be played at a later date. Grad student CJ McCarthy and senior Reed Tubbs each hit three-run home runs and junior Zev Moore added a solo blast in the fifth inning to lead the Engineers to the victory in game one. Stevens Institute of Technology outlasted FDU-Florham 6-4 in 10 innings during their Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom series opener on Friday afternoon. Kieran O'Brien went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Stevens (11-9), while Aaron Santos homered for FDU (8-13). In the 10th, Lian DeRubertis doubled down the left-field line with one out and advanced to third when Quinton Sterling reached on an error by the first baseman. Kieran O'Brien once again delivered the big hit, singling to left. After a double steal moved runners to second and third, Colby Ching executed a squeeze bunt to score another run, making it 5-3. Frank Tonina capped off the frame with a sacrifice fly to center, extending the lead to 6-3. FDU battled back in the bottom of the 10th, scoring a run on a bases-loaded walk. However, David Finch worked out of the jam by inducing a game-ending 6-4-3 double play.
No 11 UW-La Crosse completed the series sweep of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe UW-Stout with a doubleheader sweep of UW-Stout with two wins, 13-2 and 16-11, Friday afternoon. UW-La Crosse opened a 8-1 lead through four and cruised to the game one win. There was more offense in game two for UW-Stout but at the end of the game, the Blue Devils would not be able to match the Eagle's offense. Offensively in the opener, UWL finished with 13 runs on 14 hits and five walks. UWL finished the day with 13 runs on 14 hits and five walks.
Hobart split a doubleheader at Rochester this afternoon, shutting out the Yellowjackets in the finale 7-0. UR won the opener 5-2. In the opener, Rochester (9-8, 4-2) pulled even in the seventh and took the lead with a three-run eighth. The Statesmen drew a pair of walks to bring the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth, but Josh Leadem came in to earn a two-pitch save, inducing a lineout to right. In Game 2, Hobart (12-6, 3-3 Liberty League) used four pitchers to contain the Yellowjackets' offense. Sophomore Jack Byrnes had a strong day at the plate, going 5-for-9 including a double. Senior Nate Johnson was 3-for-7 with four stolen bases, two runs scored and a RBI. "It was a great team win," Hobart Head Coach Brad Cook said. "It's one of the first games which we hit, played great D and pitched outstanding. Jack Byrnes with a four-hit game. Griff competed coming back on short rest. Frank coming in and getting a huge strikeout and the double play changed the game. I can't say enough about Cole Tarrant's performance, his best one yet, and Forrest closed the door. We got up on them early and never gave them a chance."
The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor opened American Southwest Conference action with a 5-3 come-from-behind win over LeTourneau University Friday in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 13-5 on the season while the YellowJackets went to 8-12. LeTourneau tacked on two runs in the third before the Cru got on the board in the bottom of the fourth, scoring off a bases-loaded walk. UMHB took the game over in the fifth, putting up four runs. Riley Bender scored Carson Hagan with an RBI single before Shane Melick slammed a home run to left field, scoring Bender and Betts for a 5-3 Cru lead. Mason Semmelmann threw perfect frames in the sixth and seventh innings, allowing just one base runner in the eighth. Isaac Brann threw in the ninth for the Cru, facing the minimum for the save. Tyler Betts and Shane Melick led the Cru with two hits each while Melick added three RBI and a homerun, with Bender adding two runs. Semmelmann earned the win, throwing four innings with one hit allowed and seven strikeouts.
Luis Misla tossed a four-hit shutout with a career-high 16 strikeouts and just one walk to lead Cortland past visiting New Paltz, 6-0, in the opening game of a three-game SUNYAC weekend series. Cortland improved to 10-9 overall and 2-2 in the league while New Paltz suffered its first league loss and is now 12-7 overall and 3-1 in the conference. The teams will play a doubleheader at Cortland Saturday at noon. Misla (4-2) is the fifth pitcher in school history to strike out at least 16 batters in a game. The school record is 17 by both Matt Valin versus Fredonia in 2019 and Allan Greenberg versus Le Moyne in 1967, with Misla matching the 16-strikeout performances by Eric Kwasniewski versus Hobart in 1995 and Dan Revai against Hartwick, in a 7-inning contest, in 1977.
Tufts University had to roll with the punches today, as they played in an unexpected doubleheader due to inclement weather against the Bates Bobcats on Friday afternoon. The Jumbos split the day with a loss in game one (6-3) and a win in game two (3-1) at Sol Gittleman. Tufts (7-10, 1-1 NESCAC) faced an uphill battle after the Bobcats (2-10, 1-1 NESCAC) plated five runs in the top of the second inning of game one. With the offense stuck in the mud, Tufts could not mount a comeback. They reset within the hour, and began game two with a clean slate and 27 outs to make. With the same 3 run offence, Tufts relied on good pitching for a win in game two and a split. Silas Reed was dealing on the mound, mowing down the Bobcats after the hiccup in the first. The graduate student racked up 13 strikeouts by the end of the game, bumping him up to third on the program career strikeouts list all-time. It was his second complete game of the season and the first one that lasted nine innings.
No. 25 Concordia Texas outlasted Austin College by a score of 4-1. Otto Franz struck out seven batters in eight innings of action, while Kalen Clark fired a solo shot at Gardner-Boggs Field on Friday.Clark got the Tornados on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first when launched his homer just over left center. Adding to the lead in the fifth was Carson Riley with a hit & run single through the right side to score Eric Garcia. At the next at bat, Zach Seigrist connected on a sac fly to send Smith across the plate for a 3-0 lead entering the sixth. The Roos put their first runner in scoring position by getting the first two batters on base in the top of the sixth, but the Tornados would get out of the frame unscathed to maintain the three-run lead. Adding insurance in the sixth was Landon Hyle who singled through the right side to score Colby Christian. The Roos would have a chance to strike again with two runners in scoring position and one out in the top of the seventh. They would then bring home one run to make it a 4-1 game entering the eighth. That would ultimately be the final run of the evening as CTX would go on to claim game one.
Dubuque defeated the Augsburg Auggies 8-4 in the Alumni Weekend series opener on Friday afternoon. Micah O'Neal and Tyson Dent each had three RBI's in the victory. Augsburg put up a run in each of the first two innings to lead 2-0. In the bottom of the fourth inning the Spartans would explode for six runs in the inning. O'Neal hit a double to left center to score the first two runs, before George Sherlock hit a sacrifice bunt to score O'Neal. Two batters later, Dent would hit his first home run of the season to give the Spartans a 6-2 lead. The following at bat for O'Neal would be a triple to center field to score his third RBI of the day. JD Schaffer hit a sacrifice fly for the eighth run of the day. Aidan Elfering picked up his first win of the season in a complete game performance. Elfering allowed eight hits and gave up four runs. The senior pitcher struck out 11 batters in the win.
Case Western Reserve University brought its bats to St. Louis on Friday, scoring a combined 25 runs over two games to sweep a doubleheader against 24th-ranked Washington University. The Spartans won the opening game of the day 13-7 before claiming a 12-9 win in seven innings in the second game before it was called due to darkness. CWRU collected 28 total hits during the two games, including 11 for extra bases (eight doubles and three home runs), and drew 20 walks. As a team, the Spartans hit .400 for the day with a team on-base percentage of .532 and a slugging percentage of .643. Graduate student catcher Jack Anderson hit .667 (six-for-nine) with six runs, two doubles, a home run, seven RBIs, and two walks, while senior outfielder Nick Harms also hit .667 (four-for-six) with five runs, two home runs, six RBIs, three walks, and a stolen base. Anderson's six hits on the day give him 262 for his career, one behind former Spartan Chad Mullins (2008-11) for the program's record.
Luke Wechsler kicked off No. 18 Cal Lutheran's weekend series against the Chapman Panthers with a complete game shutout victory, 4-0. Wechsler threw an outstanding game and kept the Panthers guessing all day with nine strikeouts, allowing just four hits and no walks over nine innings. Miscues from Chapman allowed the Kingsmen to capitalize throughout the entire game. Lucas Danielewicz started the scoring early for Cal Lutheran with a single to left field, brining Alec Garcia home. Zach Gardner chimed in with an RBI double to drive in Danielewicz for a 2-0 advantage. In the fourth, Eric Gonzalez reintroduced himself after coming back from injury with an RBI single to extend the Kingsmen's lead to 3-0. Sebastian Smith scored the fourth run of the game on a wild pitch from Chapman. At one point, Wechsler had retired 12 Panthers in a row, which allowed him to last all nine innings. The offense did its part to back him up as Danielewicz and Carlos Vega each had two hits. Danielewicz, Gardner, and Gonzalez all recorded one RBI as well.
After losing a lead in the 8th inning to Fredonia yesterday, SUNY Oswego hosted a doubleheader against the Blue Devils this afternoon, sweeping the day 20-1 and 8-6. The Lakers wasted no time getting to work in game one, as Daniel Winchester drove in the first run in the top of the first on an RBI-single. In the bottom of the third, Dylan Rosenberg hit a 2-RBI single, driving home Brendan Mair and Felix De Asa Delacruz, and making it an 8-0 game. In the bottom of the fifth, the Lakers continued to add runs, making it 16-0. Danny Moccio came in for the top of the sixth, relieving Jason Sanders, and gave up 1 run before the inning ended. In game two the Fredonia Blue Devils wasted no time, scoring 3 runs in the first inning. Oswego erased the deficit on the third, scoring six. Fredonia would continue to add runs but could not catch up and the sweep was secured at the final out.
The temperature was hot and so were the bats Friday afternoon as Gustavus rolled to a MIAC-opening sweep over Carleton. Playing in temps that exceeded 80 degrees, the No. 22-ranked Gusties collected 30 runs and 31 hits - including six home runs - with decisive wins of 17-7 and 13-3, improving to 16-4 overall and 2-0 in the MIAC. For the second time this week, Danny Gavin led off the game with a home run - his third of the season - setting the tone for the day. Luke Siegle had uncharacteristic struggles with his command on the mound as the Knights scored four runs in the first inning. Siegle hit three batters, walked another, and gave up three hits in just two-thirds of an inning, giving way to Michael Prosch. Prosch limited the damage and went on to pitch 3.1 innings of relief to earn his third win of the season. The Gusties rolled their momentum right into game two, scoring five times in the first inning. Joe Burns hit the team's third home run in as many innings, a two-run shot to right, and Siegle piled it on in the fourth with a three-run shot to center for a 12-1 advantage. Carleton almost extended the game in the bottom of the seventh, scoring a pair to make it a 10-run game, but Jacob Weckop was able to end the game.
Westfield State University senior SS Jonathan Toth set a school record with eight runs batted in in the game as the Owls bombarded Mass Maritime Academy, 26-9 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams in Buzzards Bay on Friday afternoon. Westfield improves to 13-3, 1-0 in the MASCAC, while the Buccaneers are now 8-8 and 0-1 in the league. The two teams meet in a doubleheader tomorrow at Westfield State's Hagan Field, with an 11:30 a.m. start. Please note the early start as some weather is anticipated later in the day. Toth finished 4-5 at the plate, with two home runs, two doubles, eight RBI and a walk. The eight RBI break the record of seven set by Owls' Hall of Famer Dave Adams in 1994 in an 18-3 win over Western New England. After popping out in the first inning, he roped a 3-run home run to center field in the third inning, added a double to left early in the top of the fifth, and launched another 3-run homer to right later in the inning as Westfield scored 10 runs in the fifth as the Owls scuttled the chances for a Buccaneer comeback.
No. 15 Centre improved to 17-5 on the year as they took a hard-fought series opener over the LaGrange Panthers by a score of 5-1. For five innings, the game belonged to the starting pitchers as Harrison Cowdrey got the start for the Colonels and pitched his way out of a few jams to keep the game scoreless. Both teams' defenses played well as neither team could get on the board in the first five frames. In the top of the sixth, the Panthers dented the scoreboard first as they took a 1-0 lead on a two-out RBI single. With two outs in the bottom of the inning, Aaron Lopez walked. The wind began to blow out of the ballpark and so did the baseball as Baylor Woodall lifted a two-run homer over the left field fence to give Centre a 2-1 lead. Centre took advantage of the friendly wind as Graham Johnson made it back to back bombs for the Colonels with a solo shot for a 3-1 advantage. In the seventh, Zach Heavern came on in relief of Cowdrey with two men on and got out of a bases loaded jam. When the field turned, Centre's next batter was Ben Prather, and he crushed a fly ball to left field for another solo homer. Centre's last run came after a Chase Austin double and a two-base error to make it 5-1. Heavern settled in over the next two innings and did not allow a run to pick up the save.
Offense continued to roll for the Piedmont Lions with another double-digit scoring performance as they defeated Asbury 12-6 in the series opener Friday. The Lions have scored 10 or more seven times now this season. Zeke Swartz earned the start for Piedmont as the game was scoreless until the third inning when a hit by pitch followed by a double led to the first run for the Eagles. That lead was short-lived as the Lions came to life in the bottom of the fourth. Piedmont scored five runs on three hits and three walks in the inning to take a 5-1 lead. Piedmont scored in each inning from then on until the eighth with another offensive outburst in the seventh bringing in four runs.
No. 17 Pomona-Pitzer got back into the win column with a dominant 17-3 win over Whittier College in seven innings. Jake Hilton earned the win on the mound after striking out six and giving up just two runs in 5.1 innings of work. JC Ng led Pomona-Pitzer offensively, going 3-3 from the plate with a three-run homer. Xavier Hattenburg also went 3-3 with one RBI, while Cooper Berry, Greg Pierantoni and Carson Evans each tallied two RBIs. The Sagehens dominated from the get-go, with Evans doubling to right to drive in Justin Zerger and Jimmy Legg in the bottom of the second. Berry notched a two-run double of his own before Pierantoni posted a two-RBI single to left. Pierantoni later scored on a wild pitch, giving Pomona-Pitzer a 7-0 lead after two. The bats continued to stay hot in the fourth, as the Sagehens scored eight in the frame to go up 15-0. Hattenburg, Legg, Zerger, James Quintero and Lateef Wakil each tallied RBIs in the frame before Ng blasted a three-run shot to right field. The Poets got three runs back in the sixth, bringing the score to 15-3. Sammy Lee earned an RBI of his own in the bottom of the sixth, before Ben Morgan hit a sac fly to score George Nahabidian, as the Sagehens came away with the 17-3 win in seven innings.
