No. 5 ranked Endicott overcame a late two-run deficit to defeat No. 3 Johns Hopkins, 4-3, in its Spring Break week opener on Saturday morning. In a rematch of last year's Beverly Super Regional matchup, it was the Gulls who once again bested the Blue Jays in a tight, come-from-behind win on Saturday morning. Johns Hopkins escaped the seventh inning with the score tied 3-3, but after Evan Scully stranded a runner in scoring position in the top of the eighth, the Blue and Green kept the pressure on in the bottom half. Danny MacDougall started a rally that later Kyle Grabowski delivered a hard one-hopper over to first. The Blue Jays' first baseman made a sprawling stop, but was unable to make a clean throw towards home to get MacDougall at the plate, and the Gulls pulled ahead, 4-3. The Jays avoided any further damage, and the contest headed to the top of the ninth, where Evan Scully looked to close things out. The junior right-hander did not disappoint, as he retired the Blue Jays 1-2-3 (foul popout, groundout to short, lineout to short) to wrap a bow on the ranked win for Endicott.
No. 4 Lynchburg edged out Eastern Mennonite in game one, 2-1, and secured a commanding victory in game two, 7-1, sweeping the Royals at home on James C. Fox Field on Saturday. In Game 1, the No. 4 Hornets (15-2, 4-0) battled through a tight contest. Eastern Mennonite took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Arnold's sacrifice fly brought Miller home. However, Lynchburg answered in the 6th inning with a clutch double by Sean Pokorak, scoring Benton Jones to tie the game at 1-1. The electrifying go-ahead run came in the bottom of the 8th when Jones singled to bring home Brandon Garcia, giving the Hornets a 2-1 advantage, which they held onto for the win. Game 2 was a more commanding showing from Lynchburg. Joe Munitz put the home team on the board early with an RBI single in the 1st inning, scoring Garcia. The offense continued to roll with Garcia adding another RBI single in the 2nd, and Joe Gordon's RBI single in the 5th pushed the lead to 3-0. A pair of unearned runs crossed the plate in the 7th after a passed ball, followed by a 2-RBI double from Gavin Collins to extend the lead to 6-0. Garcia added another RBI in the 8th, and despite a late unearned run from Eastern Mennonite, Lynchburg sealed a 7-1 victory.
Action continued at day two of the Granville Tournament, hosted by the No. 6 Denison. In game four of the weekend, the Denison Big Red took on the Cardinals from North Central College, changing the tide from yesterday's loss to Adrian and coming out victorious in a 5-3 decision. Squaring off with each other and mother nature, Denison fell back on a dominant defensive performance and a handful of spark plays to lift them to a 5-3 victory over North Central. Senior righty, Nick Falter, picked up his 4th win of the year following his 7.0 inning bout, allowing five hits and striking out a season high of eight batters. Michael Gray slammed the door shut, going 2.0 innings and recording the save. This is Gray's second save of the season. The offense played at a methodical pace. Max Fishbein launched a two-run shot to rip the lead back in the bottom of the fifth inning. Cade Nowik added two RBI's of his own. Erik Sundgren added the final run of the game, bringing his season total to 24. Sundgren is tied for second in home runs and top-10 for RBI's across all of Division III. The defense was perfect in the field, recording zero errors in the victory.
The seventh-ranked Trinity University Tigers broke a three-game losing streak with a hard-fought 13-9 win over 24th-ranked SUNY Cortland on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers (14-4) and the Red Dragons (7-6) are in the third game of a four-game series, which Cortland began with wins 11-3 and 8-5 wins on Thursday and Friday nights. Trinity looked like they were in control with a 7-2 lead after two innings, but Cortland eventually tied things up 9-9 in the eighth. The Tigers then burst back in front with a four-run bottom of the eighth to seal the win. Brandon Nelson broke the tie with his two-run pinch-hit single into center field, then Kaleb Woodward drove in two more with a single into the gap in right-center. Both hits came with two outs in the inning. Will Hellings picked up his first win of the season (1-0) to go with his four saves, pitching the final 2.1 innings. He allowed one unearned run on two hits, coming into the game with two outs in the top of the seventh. The top five Tiger hitters in today's lineup did most of the damage, accounting for seven hits, eight runs scored, and 10 RBI.
Montclair State took down #9 Salisbury 5-3 on Saturday afternoon in Day Two of the 2025 MSU Invitational at Yogi Berra Stadium. The Red Hawks (8-6) received a strong start from Patrick Cuccurullo. Cuccurullo finished the day with six strikeouts over six innings. He has punched out five or more batters in all four of his starts this season, going six or more innings in each of his last three. Patrick Teehan earned the victory, spanning the final three frames of the day. He has not allowed an earned run in six appearances and 12 and two thirds innings this season. Montclair leveled the contest in the sixth. The Red Hawks put the first two batters on to begin the bottom half of the seventh, and a ground out moved them both into scoring position. Salisbury intentionally walked Marcus Johnson to load the bases for Shuhet, who doubled to center field to drive in two runs to put Montclair in front. Billy Tigar drove in Johnson later in the frame on a sacrifice fly to make the margin three with two innings to go. Teehan retired all three batters he faced in the eighth, but an error in the ninth by the Red Hawks put two runners on base for Salisbury, who plated a run on a single to center field. Teehan closed the door with the next two outs to secure the top ten victory for Montclair.
Tufts battled for a split with the No. 10 Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens, winning 6-2 then dropping the nightcap 6-3, to open up their West Coast road trip at Alumni Field on Saturday. Graduate student starter Silas Reed was stellar on the mound from the first pitch of game one, striking out two in the bottom of the first. He kept the bats quiet in his second start of the season, escaping an error in the bottom of the second by forcing a double play and ground out. The large dimensions of Alumni Field helped keep the ball inside the field of play, but it was Reed's command that made even the worst of his pitches difficult to hit. He was hitting his spots with such accuracy that it was hard to believe he was three time zones east just a day prior. Game two saw the Sagehen's offense wake back up after a sleepy game one. They tagged the Jumbos starter Connor Podeszwa for five runs over the seniors' five innings of work to jump out to a lead. The Tufts bats were solid, as they totaled six hits as a team, but they failed to link hits together to manufacture runs. Tufts would be silenced by the Sagehens' pitchers through the final two innings, and would have to settle for the split doubleheader with the number ten team in the nation.
