MAHWAH, NJ – #18 Rowan swept Ramapo by scores of 10-3 and 8-5 in NJAC baseball action today as the second-game win gave Rowan head coach Mike Dickson his 300th victory in 11 seasons as the Profs' mentor. Dickson's record at his alma mater now stands at 300-128, as the Profs are 25-8 (10-4 NJAC) and have won seven straight.
Senior Phil Sedalis had three hits on the day, posting the 200th of his career with a first-inning single in the nightcap. He became the 11th Prof to reach the milestone.
Marco Mannino also had a big day at the plate, going 6-for-11 in the doubleheader, including a 4-for-6, four-RBI effort in Game 1.
GAME 1
Steven Maiers (4-1) tossed 8.0 scoreless innings, scattering seven hits and striking out six to earn the victory.
Rowan was up 10-0 in the top of the ninth as Ramapo scored its only runs in its last at-bat.
Damon Suriani got the Profs on the board in the fourth as he was hit by a pitch, advanced on a wild pitch and scored when Brayden Davis singled and Ramapo committed an error. Rowan added three in the fifth when Suriani singled to drive in Mannino, and Davis and Nick Struble followed with back-to-back singles, scoring Morgan and Suriani, respectively,
Mannino hit an RBI single in the sixth and Rowan added two runs in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Joey Bogart and an RBI single by Sedalis to put the Profs up 7-0. Mannino, who was 4-for-6 in the game, closed things out with a three-run double in the ninth inning.
Sedalis, Struble, Davis and Tyler Cannon all had two hits in the win.
GAME 2
Rowan took its customary first-inning lead, scoring three times as Morgan and Struble each drove in a with singles and Suriani scored on a balk. The Profs increased it to 5-0 in the second as Mannino's base hit brought home Cannon and Suriani drove in Mannino with a single.
Ramapo got on the board in the bottom of that inning, closing to within, 5-2, before Rowan extended the lead to 7-2 in the fourth. Mannino again had a base hit and eventually scored on a ground out, while Chris Serrano drove in Morgan, who had singled earlier in the inning.
Struble doubled in the eighth and Bogart's single brought him home as Rowan stretched its lead to 8-2, before Ramapo scored three runs in the eighth.
Tyler Parks made the start and went 4.2 innings with four strikeouts as reliever Charlie Russell (1-0) picked up his first win of the year, throwing 2.2 innings. Jack Norton also saw action out of the bullpen with Mark Grubb earning his first save of the season, striking out one in the ninth inning.
Morgan went 3-for-5 with two runs in the win with Struble, Serrano and Mannino chipping in two hits each.
Rowan closes out the regular season this week with a trip to Rutgers-Newark on Thursday and the home game of the series on Friday against the Scarlet Raiders. The Profs head to NJCU on Saturday for a doubleheader. (Note – Tuesday's game at Immaculata has been canceled)
