Catcher AJ King

King has now made the D-III World Series in his first two years of eligibility. In 2019, King had eight hits in the D-III World Series as he split time between catcher and designated hitter. last month, we was tabbed as the first team All-CC catcher.

RHP Peter Schaefer

Schaefer has started nine of 19 games for the Blue Jays in 2021. Schaefer is currently 15th in JHU single-season history with his 73 punchouts. Schaefer has struck out eight or more in five of his nine starts, including a career-high 15 vs. Muhlenberg on May 1st.

First Baseman Jared deFaria

deFaria earned a spot on an All-Centennial team for the first after a standout junior season. The first basemen led the team with a .391 batting average and 14 RBI. A Weston, FL native, deFaria slugged three homers and four doubles and also led the Blue Jays with an OPS of 1.166.

  RHP Kieren Collins

Collins, has pitched in nine contests, making six starts. The Floridian is 5-1 with a 2.17 ERA, striking out 42 in 45.2 innings pitched. Collins struck out at least six batters in five different outings, including eight strikeouts in his outstanding seven-inning performance out of the bullpen on Monday afternoon.

Scouting report

  • Johns Hopkins started almost two months later than usual because of the constraints of COVID. The Blue Jays dropped three of their first four games and needed to win the rest of their conference schedule to make the NCAA regional playoffs. Since starting out 1-3, Johns Hopkins has won 14 of their last 15 heading into the D-III World Series.
  • Johns Hopkins is the only team that is returning to the D-III World series from the last time the championship was played in 2019. JHU went 4-2, losing both games to Birmingham Southern wo went on to play Chapman in the Championship Series. JHU finished fourth in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 in 2019. 
  • JHU head coach Bob Babb is the dean of college coaches, currently in his 42nd season. While guiding the program to national prominence, Babb has amassed a record of 1,208-442-15 (.730) and is second among active coaches.
