APPLETON, Wisconsin – Beloit College edged out the University of Chicago 2-1 on Saturday afternoon, winning the Midwest Conference (MWC) Baseball Tournament title for the second year in a row.

Chicago advanced to the title game after eliminating the MWC Champion and host Lawrence University on Saturday morning. The Maroons scored first putting up two runs in the opening inning and held a 4-1 lead in the top of the second before the Vikings’ three-run rally would tie the game at 4-4.

Chicago rattled off two more runs in the fourth and Lawrence’s two-run answer came in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game again at 6-6.

The Vikings took their first lead with a single score in the sixth. Chicago would retake the lead and win the game 9-7 after scoring three runs in the eighth.

In the title game, the Buccaneers and the Maroons only accounted for 13 hits for the game, seven and six, respectively. Beloit scored first with a single RBI in the top of the second and held a 1-0 lead until scoring again on a Chicago error at third base in the fifth.

The Maroons’ only score would come in the bottom of the fifth.
