DOVER, Del. - Wesley College's Kevin Murphy (Middletown, Md./Middletown) extended his hitting streak to a Capital Athletic Conference record 38 games as the Wolverines swept a doubleheader from Penn State Harrisburg, 6-5 and 11-0.

Murphy had entered the day tied with Jay Quintana who had hit in 36 straight games for Mary Washington during the 2003 and 2004 seasons.  He broke the mark with a hit in the third inning of game one, then made it 38 with a single in the first inning of the second game.

At 38 games, Murphy's streak is tied for the eighth longest in Division III history.

The Wolverines (6-1) scored four times in the fifth inning of the opener and needed a run in the bottom of the sixth to secure the 6-5 win. 

Nick Knull and Tim Gonzalez each drove in runs in the first inning for the Nittany Lions (0-4) as the visitors jumped ahead 2-0.  Murphy knocked in Jon Carlson (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) in the third to cut the lead in half, but Penn State Harrisburg jumped ahead 5-1 with a three-run fifth.

Wesley responded in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 5-5 taking advantage of four wild pitches and an error by the Nittany Lions in the inning.

In the sixth, a sacrifice fly by Rob Benedict (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) brought home Adam Darling (Milford, Del./Milford) with the winning run.

Carlson was the only Wolverine with two hits in the game, while both Pat Worthington and Gonzalez had multi-hit games for PSUH.

Zach Stuart (Palmyra, Pa/Palmyra Area) picked up the win in relief.  He scattered three hits and a run over the final three innings, striking out two for his first career victory.

Marc Chimel took the loss for the Nittany Lions.

The nightcap was not as close as a four-run first put Wesley ahead early and Ryan Doran (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) and Michael Berry (Milford, Del/Milford) held PSU Harrisburg to just three hits.

In the bottom of the first, Benedict and Carlson both reached base and executed a double steal to put runners on second and third with no one out.  Murphy followed with a two-run single.  The Wolverines executed a double steal later in the inning with Murphy swiping home as Bryan Reshetar (Newark, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) took second.  Reshetar scored the Wolverines' fourth run of the frame on a sac fly by Ryan Polk (Croydon, Pa./Truman).

Reshetar stole another base in the third and scored on the play as a result of a wild throw for a 5-0 lead. 

In the fourth, Carlson had a sacrifice fly and Murphy and Geoff Kimmel (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) followed with back-to-back RBI doubles to add three more runs to the lead.

Rich Lober (Wilmington, Del./Concord), Polk and Chris Kitlas (Waldorf, Md./Riverdale Baptist) all drove in runs in the sixth to cap the scoring.

Doran faced the minimum through five innings, picking off a runner in the fourth and forcing a double play in the fifth.  He ended his day allowing just three hits over six innings and striking out four. 

Murphy had two hits, drove in three runs and scored three times.  Benedict also had a pair of base hits in the contest.  Reshetar stole three bases in the game.

Jonathan Ventura gave up seven earned runs in 3.1 innings to take the loss.
