WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 4 Shenandoah University ran its season-opening winning streak to 10 games Friday afternoon with a 15-0 USA South Conference victory over N.C. Wesleyan.

For Shenandoah (10-0, 3-0 USA South), it is the second straight contest it has stopped early due to the USA South Conference mercy rule.

The Hornets scored five runs in the first, one in the second and five more in the third to take a commanding lead over the Bishops (4-10, 1-2).

The offense proved all starting pitcher Greg Van Sickler (4-0) would need, as he scattered four singles in the complete game victory.

Van Sickler struck out seven, did not walk a batter and also drove in what proved to be the game-winning run with a first inning single to right center.

The RBI single was one of three hits Van Sickler had on the day and one of 20 that SU pounded out against four NCWC pitchers.

Eight of nine Shenandoah starters had at least one hit with Joey Donofrio, Van Sickler, Cory Nelson and Nick Beall getting three hits each.

Senior Clint DeHaven and sophomore Kurt Krout both had two hits with one of them being a home run.

DeHaven had a three-run HR in the first and Krout a solo shot in the sixth.

Bishops starter Andrew Webb (2-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing eight runs on 10 hits in 2 1/3 innings.

These two teams complete the weekend series with a 1 p.m. game tomorrow. Vince Claudio (1-0) is the Hornets scheduled starting pitcher.
