WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 1/6 Shenandoah banged out double-digit hits for the 13th time this season in 8-2 non-conference baseball victory over Mount Aloysius Thursday afternoon.

Shenandoah (19-0) scored one run in the first and three more in the second to pull away from the Mounties (5-7).

SU had 13 hits, including a double from senior All-America Greg Van Sickler and a two-run HR by classmate Clint DeHaven.

Van Sickler's double, to left center in the first, plated Kevin Brashears with the game's first run. The RBI is the 168th of Van Sickler's career and ties him with Scott Van Dusseldorp '10 for the all-time lead at Shenandoah.

Senior Ben Hendrickson (3-0) nearly went the distance in the victory, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk in 8 2/3.

After MAC got a runner on via error with two outs in the ninth, freshman Andrew Zirobila was summoned to try and close the door. The southpaw did his job in his first varsity appearance, inducing a flly ball to right to end the contest.

Hendrickson struck out six and allowed just three hits until Mount Aloysius scored a pair of runs in the eighth.

Junior Cory Nelson led the offense with three hits in four at-bats with Kurt Krout going 3 for 3. Brashears and Keaton Neeb were both 2 for 5.

Shenandoah travels to future ODAC opponentEastern Mennonite tomorrow for a 3:00 non-league contest.
