CLEVELAND, OH – The Case Western Reserve University baseball team improved to 25-11 and set the school-record for wins in a season with a doubleheader sweep of Oberlin College on Wednesday, April 13 at Nobby's Ballpark. The Spartans rallied to win the opener, 5-4, and took the nightcap, 8-0.

The Spartans have now won 11-of-12 to surpass last season's win total of 24 (24-18 overall).

In game one, the score was locked 0-0 through the first two frames until Oberlin (11-5 overall) punched across four in the top of the third – snapping a 21-inning scoreless streak held by the Spartan pitching staff.

Case got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when first baseman Brett Ossola (Potomac, MD/Bullis School) hit a low-liner into right field for a base hit. Senior Chad Mullins (Fredericksburg, OH/Waynedale) came around to score when the ball was bobbled in the outfield to make it a 4-1 game.

Just one inning later, junior centerfielder Matt Richards (San Juan Capistrano, CA/San Clemente) laced a base hit up the middle to plate two and bring the Spartans within one. With runners on the corners, Mullins took off for second and Richards came home on an errant throw to tie the game. Mullins later came around to score on an error on a ball hit by junior Sam Alexander (Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams) to give the Spartans their first lead of the game, 5-4.

Junior A.J. Boshinski (Alpharetta, GA/St. Pius X) started for Case on the mound, striking out two in four innings and allowing three earned runs. Another junior, Noah Lieberman (Evanston, IL/Evanston), supplied one inning of scoreless relief to earn the win (4-3). Freshman Jose Vega (Strongsville, OH/Padua Francsican) came on to finish out the game in the sixth inning, earning his second save of the season with two innings of no-hit ball.

Game two remained scoreless until the third inning when the Spartans took advantage of an error to score three times. Alexander singled home one and Ossola doubled home another two.  Case then opened the game up with three in the fourth as junior left fielder Jimmy Abed (Westlake, OH/Westlake) singled in a pair and Alexander plated one more.

For the game, Alexander was 3-for-4 with two RBI and Ossola was 2-for-4 with four RBI.

On the mound, freshman Ray Kelly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute) tossed six brilliant innings for the Spartans. He allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out three.

The Spartans are back in action on Saturday, April 16 versus Bethany College (WV) in a home twinbill at 1:00 p.m.
