WINCHESTER, Va. - No. 4/4 Shenandoah returned to the diamond with a vengeance Wednesday evening in a 16-3 non-league baseball victory over Catholic.

Shenandoah (32-4) matched its season-high for hits in a game in cruising to the victory over Catholic (19-12).

The Hornets banged out 21 hits against five CUA pitchers and sent at least nine men to the plate in both the first and seventh innings.

Sophomore Vince Claudio (3-1) benefitted from all of this offense as he was able to scatter three runs on nine hits in 8.0 innings before turning it over to T.J. Campbell for the ninth.

Campbell worked a scoreless ninth, allowing just a two out infield single, in his third varsity action of the spring.

SU gave Claudio all of the support he would need with four runs on three hits in the bottom of the first.

Senior All-America Kevin Brashears led off with an infield single before Joey Donofrio was hit by a pitch and Greg Van Sickler drew a base on balls.

Sophomore Nick Beall, in his first action this season in the cleanup spot, laced a single to left that scored Brashears and allowed Donofrio to come home when the Cardinals left-fielder misplayed the ball.

Another error, on a play at third, allowed Van Sickler to score before designated hitter Mike Smith singled through the left side to bring Beall home with the Hornets fourth run of the contest.

SU three more in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and six in the seventh to provide its 16 runs.

Brashears led all players with a 5 for 6 evening while Van Sickler, Beall and Cory Nelson had three hits apiece.

Eight of nine Shenandoah starters had at least one hit.

Dimitri Deoudes had two hits for Catholic.

SU is back in action tomorrow night at Stevenson in a game played at the Ripken Complex in Aberdeen.
