DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Yellow Jackets could not slow the Franklin College lineup on Saturday, as the Grizzlies scored 23 runs on 30 hits in a doubleheader sweep over Defiance. Franklin held the Jackets to just two hits in a 9-0 victory in the opener, before taking a 14-2 win to finish the sweep.

After both teams posted zeroes in the opening inning on Saturday, Franklin gave Cody Nees all the support he would need with a fun-run explosion in the second inning. Nees made it stand, holding Defiance to one hit through five innings, while striking out 10 in the 9-0 victory.

Brent Kremer and Darin Waterman each singled to account for the lone hits of the game for Defiance, while Kevin McCann tossed a scoreless ninth inning out of the bullpen.

The Grizzlies did not slow down in the series finale, jumping to an 8-0 lead, before Defiance dented the scoreboard with a single run in the second. The Jackets would never recover from the early deficit, falling 14-2.

Alex Timofeev and Brad Kremer each drove in a run, while Aaron Patterson and Brett Belew did not yield an earned run over the final three frames.

Defiance (5-30, 1-19 HCAC) will close its 2011 campaign on May 6 and 7 when it hosts Mount St. Joseph at Craig A. Rutter Field. The series will begin on Friday at 4:00 pm and close with a Saturday twinbill starting at noon.
