WINCHESTER, Va. - Junior Jeff Stanek tossed a complete game eight-hitter Tuesday afternoon to lead the No. 10/17 Shenandoah University baseball team to a 4-1 non-league victory over Randolph-Macon.

Stanek (3-0) allowed the one run on eight hits and one walk while striking out five for Shenandoah (16-5) in its victory over its future ODAC rivals.

Macon (8-10-1) tied the game on a Jordan Walton fielder's choice in the third before SU pushed across the game-winning run in the fifth.

The Hornets were held to just five hits on the day and fittingly, the winning run was scored without the benefit of a hit.

Shortstop Kurt Krout led off the SU fifth with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch that squirted just in front of R-MC catcher Ryan Dickt. Dickt's throw to second to attempt to cut down Krout sailed into centerfield, allowing Krout to third with two outs.

One pitch later, losing pitcher Brooks Snead (0-1) balked Krout home.

SU added single runs in sixth and eighth innings to provide the final margin of victory, but Stanek didn't need the cushion.

The junior retired the side in order in the fifth, sixth and ninth innings with the effort in the sixth taking just three pitches.

In the ninth, he closed out the contest with two groundballs to second sandwiched around a comebacker to himself.

Jake Pendergraft and Michael Paul both had RBI's for the victors.

Shenandoah hosts Lynchburg on Wednesday in a doubleheader battle of the Hornets beginning at 3:00.
