LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Cal Lutheran offense supplied seven eighth inning runs to close out a 16-3 conference win on the road over Occidental on Friday afternoon. Iggy Wagner, Trevor Koons, and Nick DeLorenzo each provided two-run homers and combined to drive in 10 runs.

In the sixth inning Wagner collected his first home run in 60 career games for Cal Lutheran. The two-run blast put the Kingsmen ahead 7-2 and forced Occidental starting pitcher Tyler Eyrich out of the game. He threw 94 pitches and allowed seven earned runs over 5.1 innings.

The Tigers bullpen did not fare any better against a Cal Lutheran offense that pounded out 16 base hits, including six for extra bases on the day. The Kingsmen added two more runs in the frame following the Wagner homer courtesy of three walks and a DeLorenzo RBI-double.

A combination of small ball strategy and long ball hits worked to near perfection for the Kingsmen offense. Five sacrifices and seven successful stolen base attempts provided plenty of premium scoring chances. However it was the three late Cal Lutheran homers that left little doubt about Friday's result.

DeLorenzo drove in a pair of runs in back-to-back at bats after smashing his team-leading fourth home run of the season in the eighth. It sparked a seven run rally that was capped off by a Trevor Koons blast over the left center field wall.

While the Tigers pitching staff used five different arms to throw 174 pitches, Kingsmen starter Byron Minnich threw 120 pitches to finish what he started. He was effectively wild scattering five singles, issuing five walks, and striking out six in the complete game victory. The senior hurler improved his record to 3-3 after tossing his fourth quality start this season.

A two-out, two-run single in the third inning by OXY's Johnathon Brooks tied the game 2-2. Teammate Brent Wunner led the Tigers with two hits including a sixth inning RBI-single to supply the offense.

Six different Kingsmen collected multiple base hits including a game-high three apiece from Wagner, DeLorenzo, and John Leal. Koons, Kevin Eto, and Garrett Smith had a pair each.

The game was called after eight innings following a mutual agreement by both sides with the Kingsmen leading by double figures.

Cal Lutheran (14-8, 9-4 SCIAC) will host Occidental (14-10, 9-4 SCIAC) for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 24, starting at 11 a.m. Both teams are tied for second place in the current conference standings and one game behind La Verne (15-9, 10-3 SCIAC) for the top spot.
