The Tommie baseball team showed enough poise and perseverence Wednesday to pull out a 4-3, 7-6 road sweep of Augsburg at Minneapolis' Parade Stadium.

The No. 7-ranked Tommies (16-4 overall, 4-0 MIAC) extended their win streak to seven games but needed to rally from a 5-1 deficit in game two. Ben Podobinski went 4-for-8 on the day and UST collected 22 hits.

St. Thomas remains in a three-way tie for the conference lead with Macalester and Bethel, all at 4-0. St. John's is 2-0. The Auggies (15-8, 1-3) have had all four conference games thus far decided by one run.

In the nightcap, St. Thomas left 12 runners on base and overcame a key infield error that led to a four-run inning for the Auggies. Trailing 5-3 in the sixth inning and down to their last five outs, the Tommies plated four runs to take a 7-5 lead. Charles Bruchu's two-out, two-run double put the Toms ahead to stay.

Sophomore Steve Maher, in his first career bullpen appearance, got the final seven outs to record the game-two victory and move to 7-0. Maher walked the leadoff hitter in the bottom of the seventh inning but coaxed a pop out and game-ending double-play grounder.

Dylan Thomas had two RBI hits in the game-two comeback. Bruchu came off the bench to go 2-for-2, and Nick Reichert, Sam Miller and Podobinski each had two hits.

In game one, UST broke to a 4-0 lead and held on. Thomas (2-2) pitched into the seventh inning and allowed two earned runs and one walk with nine srikeouts to record the victory. Tommy Danczyk got a bases-loaded deep fly out to end the game and record his second save.

The Tommies play their first on-campus games Saturday at 1 p.m. vs. St. Mary's.
