Thomas More Defeats Thiel, 7-1, To Win PAC Series

(GREENVILLE, Pa.) - The Thomas More College baseball team defeated Thiel College, 7-1, today (Sunday, April 29, 2012) at Tomcat Park in Greenville, Pennsylvania to win the three-game Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) series, 2-1.

With the win, the Saints improve to 25-11 overall and 13-8 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Tomcats fall to 16-21 overall and 9-12 in the PAC.

Thomas More scored two runs in the first, one in the fifth and four in the seventh, while holding Thiel to one run in the fourth for the 7-1 victory.

Junior pitcher Mike Hager (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) earned the win on the mound as he pitched seven innings and gave up one run (earned) on five hits and struck out three.  Junior Grant Lewis (Mason, Ohio/Mason) pitched two shutout innings of relief and gave up one hit and struck out one.

The Saints were led at the plate by sophomore designated hitter Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry), who was two-for-five with a double, four runs batted-in and a run scored.  Three other Saints had multiple hits in the game as junior shortstop David Kennett (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) was two-for-five with a run scored, freshman left fielder Nick Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-for with a run scored and sophomore center/right fielder Cody Makin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-three with a double, a RBI and a run scored.

The Saints will close out their regular season next Saturday and Sunday (May 5-6) with a three-game PAC series with Washington & Jefferson College at Ross Memorial Park in Washington, Pennsylvania.  The Saints and Presidents will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. and a single nine-inning game on Sunday starting at 12 p.m.
