Baseball: Titans Tie School Record 27 Wins After 5-3 Win in Second Round of PAC Tournament

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The No. 2-seeded Westminster College (27-15) baseball team topped the No. 4-seeded Saint Vincent (24-18), 5-3, on Friday in the winner's bracket of the 2012 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship. The Titans advance to the championship game on Saturday at 2 p.m. Westminster's 27 wins tied the 1982 team for season-high victories.

Westminster senior Tim Wiand (Pottstown, PA / Owen J. Roberts) was named the PAC Network Player of the Game as he went 3-for-3 at the plate with a game-high two RBIs and two runs scored. Wiand had two doubles and a home run, while drawing a walk.

Senior Patrick Mulligan (Brookfield, OH / Brookfield) (6-2) got the win for the Titans in a complete-game performance. Mulligan only gave up one earned run (four total) off four hits. He struck out a game-high nine batters and walked four.

Down, 1-0, in the fourth inning, Westminster tied it 1-1 after a Wiand solo home run over the left field fence. The Bearcats responded in the bottom half of the frame with a run to take a 2-1 lead.

The Titans went ahead 5-2 after a four-run sixth inning, all the runs coming with two outs. Wiand led the charge with an RBI-double to left center field, scoring junior Kyle Allen (New Wilmington, PA / West Middlesex). Two batters later, senior Ethan Yeager (Pottstown, PA / Owen J. Roberts) scored Wiand with a double of his own. Junior Chris Ross (West Pittsburg, PA / New Castle) would score after a Saint Vincent error, followed by a RBI-single from classmate Ty Miller (Clinton, PA / Hopewell).
