CLAREMONT, Calif. – A rain delay to the next day was not enough to jump start the Pacific offense in the opening game of the 2013 season as the Boxers dropped a 3-1 contest to Pomona-Pitzer in a game started on Friday and concluded on Saturday at Alumni Field.
 
The contest had been suspended on Friday in the bottom of the seventh inning with Pomona-Pitzer holding on to a 2-1 lead.  The Sagehens pushed across an insurance run once play resumed when Nick Gentili scored on a sacrifice fly by Coleman Lukas.
 
The Boxers (0-1) managed just four hits in the contest and did not get a hit off Pomona-Pitzer starter Jame Bruml until the top of the seventh inning.  Michael Arakaki (Sr., Mililani, Hawaii) led the Boxers with two hits.
 
Pomona-Pitzer pushed the game's first run across in the bottom of the first.  Erik Munzer was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame and scored when the No. 2 hitter, Mike Moyer, doubled.  Moyer made it a 2-0 lead in the third when he reached second on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly.
 
Pacific picked up their only run of the game in the top of the seventh inning.  Logan Moen (Sr., Brier, Wash.) singled with one out and then advanced to third on Arakaki's double down the left field line.  Newcomer Charlie Gaff (Fr., Stockton, Calif.) picked up Moen with a sacrifice fly to right.
 
Kyle Treadway (So., Phoenix, Ore.) threw six innings of solid baseball in the initial start of the season, taking the loss.  Treadway allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts in six innings of work.  Bruml earned the win for Pomona-Pitzer, allowing one run on two hits with seven strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work.  Guy Stevens earned the save, allowing just two hits in 2.1 innings.
 
Gentili and Sam Fox each had two hits to lead Pomona-Pitzer.
