Lynchburg Stumbles in Piedmont College Tourney Final, falls 10-2

DEMOREST, GA – The Lynchburg College baseball team faced a tough challenge in Millsaps College, ultimately falling to the heavy-hitting team, 10-2, in the championship game of the Piedmont College Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

Millsaps proved to be a tough challenge for the Hornet pitchers as the Majors have now scored a total of 31 runs in their past two games.

LC got on the board first after junior Zac Patrick held the Major bats at bay in the top of the first. With one out in the bottom of the inning, senior Michael Kenah was hit by a pitch. Kenah stole second and went to third on a wild pitch before an RBI single from senior Dan Savage brought him home.

Millsaps scored eight unanswered runs after the first, taking an 8-1 advantage into the bottom of the seventh inning.

Walks to sophomores Rob Tomasulo and Lincoln Evans sandwiched a single by sophomore Joe Rogers to load the bases with no one out, giving LC an opportunity to cut into the Millsaps margin. A double play groundball by the Hornets managed to get Tomasulo in from third, but LC could do no additional damage.

Savage led the way for Lynchburg (2-3) with a 2-for-4 day with an RBI. With no errors in the game, the Hornets were the only team in the tournament to not commit an error.

Will Elmore led the way for Millsaps (4-2), allowing two runs over seven innings of work.

Lynchburg returns to Fox Field for the first home game of the year as the Hornets take on Stevenson University (0-0), Tuesday, at 2 p.m.
