EWING, N.J. – The Oswego State baseball team (2-1) used a five-run seventh inning to take the lead late in the game, and hold on to defeat The College of New Jersey (1-2), 10-8, Sunday afternoon.  The Lakers were paced by the hot bat of Michael Mascari (Syracuse, N.Y.), who went 4-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored in his first career start.
 
Ed Charles (Sr., Auburn, N.Y.) started the Laker scoring right out of the gate, hitting a lead-off home run off of Lion starter Robert Schneider.  Mascari singled later in the first inning to bring in Tim Smith (Jr., Auburn, N.Y.) for a 2-0 Oswego State advantage.
 
The Lions answered back in the bottom of the second, scoring two unearned runs off of Oswego State starter Jon Stevens (Sr., Chittenango, N.Y.) to tie the game at two runs apiece.  The Lakers responded in the top of the third when Mascari doubled down the right field line, scoring Smith for a 3-2 lead.
 
TCNJ went on to add five runs over the next two innings, highlighted by a Mike Murphy double that plated two runners.
 
The Lakers and the Lions traded runs in the top of the fifth and bottom of the sixth with the Lakers scoring twice and the Lions once to make the score 8-5 in favor of TCNJ.  Mascari singled to right field plating Smith and Mike Stark (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.).
 
Andrew Lazzaro (Sr., Oswego, N.Y.) helped start the Lakers' five-run rally in the top of seventh on an RBI single to left field scoring Mascari and Alex Jurczynski (Sr., Schenectady, N.Y.).  Scott Buniak (Jr., Clifton Park, N.Y.) then draw an RBI walk to bring in Brian Hamilton (So., Liverpool, N.Y.).  The Lakers scored their final two runs when Lazzaro and Tyler Baker (Hannibal, N.Y.) scored on a fielder's choice hit by Charles to grab the 10-8 lead.
 
Adam Bishop (Sr., Camillus, N.Y.) recorded the win for Oswego State, throwing 3.1 scoreless innings in relief, allowing only one hit and two walks.  Stevens gave up 10 hits, eight runs (six earned), struck out five and walked two batters over 5.2 innings in the no-decision.
 
Oswego State returns to action next weekend when it takes on Manhattanville in a road doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 9.
