CHESTERTOWN, MD (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Washington College (Md.) scored seven runs in the fifth inning to break open a one-run game as the Shoremen defeatedNew Jersey City University, 12-3, in a non-conference baseball game on March 23 at Athey Baseball Park.
 
NJCU (7-5) had its four-game winning streak snapped while Washington, a member of the Centennial Conference, improved to 8-7. It was the first meeting on record between the schools in any varsity sport.
 
Senior first baseman Tyler Cotterell (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs for WC while freshman catcher Brian Quadrino (Smithtown, NY)collected three RBIs and a run in a 2-for-3 effort.
 
Sophomore third baseman/shortstop MICHAEL MARTUCCI (Bayonne, NJ/Saint Peter's Prep) was NJCU's lone player with multiple hits, going 2-for-5 with one RBI.
 
Senior center fielder MICHAEL PATTERSON (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) had a hit, RBI and run scored and reached base for the 14th consecutive game dating to last season.
