GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Thiel College senior designated hitter Jarod Nanna (Johnstown, Pa./Conemaugh)'s walk-off RBI single to the wall in left field powered the Tomcats to a 10-9 victory over Penn State Behrend Monday afternoon at Tomcat Park.

Penn State Behrend added to their lead with a three-spot in the top of the second, scoring a run off of a balk, a sacrifice fly and a double to make it 6-0 in just the second inning.

The Tomcats finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, as a two-out double by Eric Steininger (West Leechburg, Pa./Leechburg) gave Thiel a base-runner in scoring position. Nanna chipped a ball to the third baseman, who promptly air mailed his throw to first, and allowing Steininger to score from second to make it 6-1.

Penn State Behrend immediately answered with a run in the top of the fourth, scoring off of a sacrifice fly to make it 7-1 in favor of the visitors. The Tomcat bats awoke again in the fifth, as Doug Farley (Linesville, Pa./Linesville) started the inning of by reaching on an error to third. Eric King (Butler, Pa./Butler) doubled to right center, giving Thiel runners on second and third with no outs. Thiel continued to chip away at the lead in the sixth as Dan Koller (Euclid, Ohio/Lake Catholic) singled home Trent Mosley (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush) to make it 7-4. After the Lions again generated a run through the use of small-ball, the Tomcats had their work cut out for themselves heading into the eighth inning.

Thiel loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth, as Farley, King and Nanna all reached. Rossmiller walked on a full-count to score the fifth run of the contest for Thiel. Penn State Behrend continued to do as they had done all game, scoring runs without base hits. After a walk and an error gave the Lions runners on first and second with one out, a wild pitch uncorked by reliever Kris Karr (Warren, Ohio/Champion) tied the game at 9-9. Karr was then relieved by Matt Elko (Middlefield, Ohio/Berkshire), who struck out the lone batter he faced to send the game to the bottom of the ninth.

Doug Farley (Linesville, Pa./Linesville) opened the frame by doubling down the right field line on the first pitch he saw. King followed with a perfectly placed bunt-single that moved Farley to third, and the Lions chose to intentionally walk Steininger to face Nanna.
