Oglethorpe Falls to Crosstown Rival Emory, 13-4

More news about: Oglethorpe

The Oglethorpe baseball team suffered a loss to their crosstown rival Emory Tuesday afternoon, losing to the home-standing Eagles 13-4.

The loss came despite another great hitting day from junior Patrick Kulick. The first baseman went 3-for-4 with a three-run double and a run scored.

However, Oglethorpe pitchers had difficulty getting Emory hitters out. Starter Sam Franklin suffered the loss after allowing four runs, three hits and two walks over two-thirds of an inning. Oglethorpe found themselved behind 4-0 after the first frame.

Joe Marco came in and restored order for awhile. An RBI double by Keith Dearden gave the Petrels their first run of the game and brought them back to within four, 5-1, in the top of the fourth. Kulick singled in front of Dearden and scored the run.

However, a three-run homer in the fifth inning broke the game open for the Eagles, giving them an 8-1 lead. Marco left the game after four innings of work, having allowed four runs on six hits.

The Petrels did get three back in the eighth. After a leadoff single by Frank Sarno and a hit batsman, Vernon Trice singled to load the bases. Kulick followed with a bases-clearing double, drawing the Petrels to within seven, 11-4.

However, Emory added two more in the bottom half of the inning.

The loss drops the Petrels to 4-3 on the season. They'll welcome Berry to Anderson Field this weekend for their first SAA series of the new campaign. The visiting Vikings will come into the series with a 6-3 record on the season.
