Baseball Team Opens 2014 Season with Win Over Coe

WINTER HAVEN, FLA. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team earned a victory in its season opener, topping Coe College 12-7 on Sunday at Chain of Lakes Stadium.

Junior Josh Hoeing (Rushville, Ind.) (pictured) and freshman Zach Trusk (Plainfield, Ill./North) led the Fightin' Engineer offense with three hits each on opening day.  Both players had a double and two singles, along with two runs scored and two runs batted in.

Senior Hank Akard (Indianapolis/Ben Davis) added two hits, two RBIs and one run scored, while sophomore Josh Koutnik (Mount Prospect, Ill./Hersey) also contributed a multiple-hit game with two singles and two runs scored.  The total offensive effort included 14 hits and three doubles.

Junior John Krasich (Westfield/Brebeuf Jesuit) picked up the win with 3.1 innings of strong relief.  Krasich scattered four hits with one strikeout to earn the second win of his Fightin' Engineer career.

Pitchers Michael Bush (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Christian), Andrew Stull (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake) and Alex McNally (Geneva, Ill./Wheaton Academy) tossed scoreless seventh, eighth and ninth innings, respectively, out of the bullpen.

Rose-Hulman stands 1-0 on the season and returns to action against St. Vincent on Monday at 11:30 a.m. in Florida.
