Oglethorpe Loses 2-0, Swept by Rhodes in SAA Road Series

More news about: Oglethorpe

The Oglethorpe baseball team fell to Rhodes 2-0 Sunday in Memphis, Tenn., resulting in a three-game sweep at the hands of the home-standing Lynx. The loss drops the Stormy Petrels to 6-8 on the season, 1-5 in SAA play.

The contest stayed scoreless through six innings as both starters pitched extremely well. Neither gave up a run in a combined 11 innings of work. Oglethorpe's starter Dan McBryan allowed just two hits and three walks over five innings of work.

He would be left with a no decision, though, as the offense could not get much going against Rhodes pitching. The Petrels recorded seven hits, outhitting the Lynx 7-5, but were unable to get a run across. They left eight men on base over the course of the game, including four in scoring position.

Meanwhile, Rhodes finally broke through with single runs in the seventh and eighth to take the game. Senior David Langhan suffered the loss in relief, allowing a run on two hits over two innings of work.

Designated hitter Austin Ferlita went 2-for-4 with a double for the Stormy Petrels.

The squad will return home to take on Sewanee in a three-game SAA series late this week. Game 1 will take place on Thursday at 6 p.m. The final two games will be played as part of a doubleheader Friday beginning at 3 p.m.
