Giants Drop Second Straight Extra-Inning Affair With Saints

Fort Pierce, FL – For the second time in as many games, the College of St. Scholastica defeated Keystone College in extra innings as the Saints defeated the Giants 6-5 in 10 innings on Monday afternoon.  St. Scholastica improves to 4-3 after completing a three-game sweep of Keystone, who falls to 2-7 on the season heading into Tuesday's off day during their spring break trip.  Five of the Giants' seven losses this spring have been to teams who qualified for the NCAA Regionals last season.
    
Keystone jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the third inning on Monday as Chris Bzozowski (Westampton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) drove in Joe Angelucci (Commack, NY/Commack) with a single before scoring on an RBI groundout off the bat of Rick McLaughlin (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert)

The Saints used single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to build a 3-2 advantage before the Giants pushed two runs across in the home sixth to go back in front by a run.  Cody Darley (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) collected an RBI groundout that scored McLaughlin with the tying run before Louis Reyes (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) singled to right to bring home Kevin Luciano (Everett, MA/Cambridge Rindge and Latin School).

St. Scholastica tied the game on a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning, but Keystone answered used a sacrifice fly in their half of the inning to go back in front as Gaston Rojas (Carmel, NY/Carmel) drove in Darley.

The Saints rallied to force extra innings for the second straight day by scoring in the ninth inning before pushing home the eventual game-winning run on a base hit in the 10th inning while holding the Giants at bay to earn the win.

St. Scholastica used five different pitchers on the day with Logan Hulst eventually being credited with the win.  Shayne Ciernia and Trevor Bernsdorf had two hits apiece while Padraic Getchell scored a pair of runs to lead the Saints' offense.

Luciano had three hits to lead Keystone's offense in the loss while Kevin Catherina (Ridgefield, NJ/St. Mary (Rutherford)) and Ricky Riscica (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) collected two hits apiece for the Giants, who out-hit the Saints 11-8 on the day, but were doomed by five errors.

John Kranick (Jessup, PA/Valley View) worked 3.1 innings and was charged with one run one three hits and six walks while striking out four batters.  Adam Sosnowski (Dickson City, PA/Mid-Valley) pitched 2.2 innings and surrendered two runs on one hit while fanning three Saints before Mike Pembleton (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Township) worked two innings in which he yielded two runs on two hits to go along with a pair of K's.  Steve Aniska (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) was charged with the loss after allowing the game's final run after pitching two innings and give up two hits.
 
Keystone will enjoy a day off on Tuesday before taking on the University of Northwestern (MN) on Wednesday in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. in Fort Pierce.
