Offense Leads Rams Past William Paterson

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team scored a season-high 16 runs as they earned a non-conference win over William Paterson this afternoon. The Rams improved to 5-1 on the year, while the Pioneers are 0-1.

Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth, junior second baseman Mike Scarlato (Holbrook, N.Y.) led off with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Junior third baseman Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) pulled the Rams within one on an RBI single to left center and junior shortstop Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single to tie the score at 5-5.

After William Paterson took a 6-5 lead in the top of the fifth, Farmingdale State answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning capped off by an Alvino RBI double to left center to regain the lead, 7-6.

The Rams added five runs in the sixth and four in the seventh en route to the 16-7 victory.

Alvino was 4-for-5 with 4 RBI and a run scored, while junior designated hitter Ryan Levine (West Babylon, N.Y.) was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a pair of walks. Scarlato batted 2-for-2 with four runs scored and 2 RBI and Rydzewski added two hits, three runs and 2 RBI.

The Pioneers were led by sophomore right fielder Jared Guglielmino (Bloomfield, N.J.) who had three hits and scored two runs, while senior first baseman Trevor Haughney (Old Bridge, N.J.) was 2-for-4 at the plate with a run and a pair of RBI's.

Junior pitcher Shaun Milito (Wantagh, N.Y.) earned the win after throwing 1.1 innings of relief and senior Chris Dragone (Hicksville, N.Y.) allowed three hits and zero earned runs for the Rams.

Farmingdale State next will face #10 Marietta in the Snowbird Classic in Florida on Friday, March 14th at 12:30 p.m.
