Rhodes Defeats No. 3 Southern Maine

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Rhodes College baseball team defeated No. 3 Southern Maine, 8-1, this afternoon in their final game of their Spring Break trip to Winter Haven, FL. The Lynx jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first and extended their lead to 4-0 in top of the third after a RBI double by Justin Genter and 2 run homerun by Ryan Olive'. Rhodes added single runs in the fifth and sixth to make it a 6-0 game. Southen Maine got on the board with a single run in the bottom of the seventh. The Lynx finished off the scoring for the day with two more in the top of the ninth. Sophomore LHP Blake Glauben earned his third victory season for the Lynx, throwing a complete game six hitter. With the victory, the Lynx improve to 15-5 on the season.

Glauben retired the first ten hitters he faced in his first collegiate complete game of his career. Glauben allowed six hits, one unearned run, one walk, and struck out three.

The Lynx offense was paced by freshman CF Ryan Olive', who was 3-5 with a homerun, 2 RBIs, and scored twice. Freshman SS Bill Munson was 1-3 with 3 runs scored, walked once, got hit by a pitch, and stole 3 bases. Junior 2B Justin Genter was 2-5 with a double, 2 RBIs, and scored twice. Senior RF Patrick Kilkenny was 2-4 with a walk. Junior LF Andrew Wallis was 2-4 on the day. Senior 1B Strother White was 1-4 with 2 RBIs.

The Lynx return to action this coming weekend as they travel to Danville, KY to resume SAA play with a three game set with Centre College.
