Bluffton wins in a wild finish

BLUFFTON, Ohio – Host Bluffton University scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded in the ninth to edge Albion College, 11-10, in a non-league baseball game Thursday afternoon.

Kyle Kowal collected a two-run single in the first and Dan Mills sparked Albion's six-run uprising in the fourth with a two-run single as the Britons led 8-4.

Bluffton chipped away at the deficit, scoring twice in the fifth, and after Spencer Bonofiglio singled home a run for Albion in the sixth, it forged a 9-9 tie with a three-run sixth. Aaron Young deposited a full count pitch over the fence to leadoff the seventh as the Beavers earned a 10-9 lead.

Albion earned a 10-10 tie in the eighth as Davin Montgomery drew a one-out walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Michael Fischbach single.

Brendan Diamond, Mills, Fischbach, and Bonofiglio all collected two hits apiece as Albion finished the contest with 14 hits.

Albion will visit Adrian College Friday and Saturday for Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheaders.
