The Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark broke open a tie in the ninth inning with four runs to defeat the Bearcats, 8-4, on Thursday afternoon at MCU Park (Brooklyn Cyclones) in Brooklyn, New York.

The loss drops the Bearcats to 6-9, while the Scarlet Raiders from the
New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) improve to 5-11.

The Bearcats trailed early 4-1, but rallied to tie the game in the seventh inning.


Matthew Ballone hit a sacrifice fly RBI to score Zachary T. Uher. Dan Daley would come around to score on a wild pitch and Keith Ezersky scored on a passed ball to tie the game.

The Scarlet Raiders exploded for four runs on five hits and one error in the ninth inning to jump ahead 8-4.

Ballone tried to muster another rally with a single in the bottom of the ninth, but the Bearcats could not get it going to suffer the 8-4 defeat in Coney Island.

Ballone finished batting 2-3 with two singles and one RBI.

Tejada hit a triple in the second inning and Ezersky had a double in the seventh inning to account for the extra base hits this afternoon.

The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, March 29, with a Noon time doubleheader at MCU Park against John Jay College.
