Flemington, NJ – Keystone College's baseball team opened Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Friday by winning a pair of games against Centenary College in a doubleheader played at Diamond Nation in Flemington, NJ.  The Giants, who claimed a 9-7 win in Friday's opener before winning the nightcap 10-0, improves to 5-9 on the season and 2-0 in conference play while the Cyclones fall to 9-7 overall and 1-2 in the CSAC.  The two teams will wrap up their regular season series on Sunday afternoon with a single game scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Keystone's Christy Mathewson Field.

In Friday's opener, Keystone used a seven-run fifth inning to pull away while holding on for a 9-7 victory.

Keystone took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single off the bat of Ricky Riscica (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich), but Centenary would go in front in the home half of the third inning when Kevin Litus hit a two-run home run.  The Giants leveled the contest at two-apiece in the top of the fourth inning when Domenick Montanaro (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) stole home before the visitors used a seven-run fifth to extend their lead to 9-2.

Tyler Gurman (Bronx, NY/Lehman) hit a two-run double to right field that brought home Riscica and Kevin Catherina (Ridgefield, NJ/St. Mary (Rutherford)) to make it a 4-2 game before Montanaro drew a bases loaded walk that allowed Chris Bzozowski (Westampton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) to trot home with the Giants' fifth run.  Montanaro and Rich McLaughlin both scored on an error by the Cyclones and after Lymbel Guerrero (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) stole home, Riscica drove in Louis Reyes (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) with a base hit down the right field line to make it a seven-run game.

Centenary would not go away quietly though, scoring five runs in the home sixth to narrow their deficit to 9-7, but Keystone would hold on to win their CSAC opener.

In Friday's nightcap, Keystone jumped out two a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Dan Denton (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) hit a three-run homer to left that also plated Montanaro and Catherina.  The Giants pushed their advantage to four runs in the home third when Gaston Rojas (Carmel, NY/Carmel) tripled to left center that scored Montanaro.

Keystone added a run in the fifth inning when Kevin Luciano (Everett, MA/Cambridge Rindge and Latin School) scored on a wild pitch before Denton went yard for the second time of the game in the home sixth, blasting a two-run shot to left field that brought in Montanaro and making it a 7-0 game in favor of the Giants.  Cody Darley (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) followed with a three-run homer to left that also scored Luciano and Rick McLaughlin (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) as Keystone built a 10-0 lead.

Mike Pembleton (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Township) (1-0) threw a complete game shutout to lead Keystone to the win as the senior scattered six hits and walked two while fanning six batters to pick up the win.

Denton finished the game 2-3 with a pair of home runs and five RBIs while Darley drove in three runs with his home run.

John Stanziale (0-2) was charged with the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in three innings of work while Centenary used a trio of other pitchers to close out the game.  Dave Raifsnider was 2-3 at the plate to lead Centenary's offense game two loss.
