Alexandria, Louisiana – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team tried to rally late, but the comeback fell short in a 3-1 loss to Louisiana College Sunday afternoon in Louisiana. The Cru falls to 17-6 overall and 13-5 in American Southwest Conference play on the season with the loss. The Wildcats improve to 8-14 overall and 7-11 in the ASC on the year with the win.

Louisiana College took a 1-0 lead on Mark Riendeau's RBI single in the bottom of the third inning. The Wildcats added two runs in the bottom of the seventh on Nic Cole's RBI groundout and Kade Van Norman's RBI single to stretch the lead to 3-0. It would stay that way into the top of the ninth before UMHB tried to rally. Rob Loewe and Tyler Taute sandwiched singles around a flyout and Loewe scored on Chase Burrow's groundout. Another flyout ended the threat for the Cru.

Jordan Mattke took the loss for UMHB to drop to 2-1. Mattke allowed just two earned runs on four hits in six and two-thirds innings. He struck out four and did not walk a batter. Brand Bignar held the Cru to three hits and a run in eight innings of work to get the win and improve to 1-0 on the season. Luke Pinkard closed it out to earn his first save of the year for the Wildcats as UMHB lost an ASC series for the first time this season.

UMHB will now return home to return to action with a three-game series against U.T.-Dallas next weekend. The two teams will open the series with a 7:00 PM single game on Friday before closing out the weekend with a 1:00 PM doubleheader on Saturday at Red Murff Field.
