Warhawks Power Past Saints

With the help of seven extra-base hits the UW-Whitewater baseball team blew past St. Scholastica 18-3 Sunday at Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium in Whitewater.  UW-W tallied 18 total hits as they improve to 13-3 this season.  The Saints drop to 10-9.

The Warhawks scored in all but one inning and eight different players accounted for at least one hit.  Jared Fon (Germantown/Germantown) led the way going 4-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBIs and is hitting .493 this season.  Fon leads the team in batting average, hits, RBIs, and homeruns.

Michael Gonzalez (Delavan/Delavan-Darien) went 3-for-6 Sunday with two doubles.  He notched 3 RBIs in the game and is tied for second on the team with 19 this season.  First baseman Casey Power (Ontario, Canada/Belle River) was 2-for-6 recording the only homerun of the game, his second of the season.

Curtis Morgan (Green Lake/Green Lake) was on the mound for UW-W and pitched a solid seven and two-thirds before giving way to reliever Colin Grove (Beloit/Memorial).  Morgan didn't give up a single run until the top of the eighth.  He totaled four strikeouts while giving up six hits to improve to 3-0 this season.

This is the ninth time in fourteen tries that UW-W has scored ten or more runs.  UW-W has outscored their opponents 176-69 this season including 29-11 at home.

The Warhawks will host Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday, April 9 in Whitewater.  The first pitch of the doubleheader is set to be thrown at 1 pm.
