YellowJackets Complete First-Ever Series Sweep of Texas-Tyler

More news about: LeTourneau

Solid pitching from juniors Cody Whitley, in game one and Justin Jenkins, in game two was complimented by enough offensive support as well as exceptional defense play as the LeTourneau University baseball team swept a doubleheader from University of Texas-Tyler, 3-0 and 4-1 on Saturday. Coupled with Friday night's 12-1 win, the YellowJackets sweep the area rival for the first time in program history.

In game two, LeTourneau was held to four hits but the biggest blow was its hit in the fourth inning when Dillon Yates emptied the bases on a three-RBI double in the fourth in the 4-1 nightcap win over Texas-Tyler.

The two teams were scoreless until the 4th inning. LeTourneau loaded the bases without a hit as Yates came to the plate. The Waxahachie native, who sat out game one, hit a ball into the gap in right-center field scoring three for the YellowJackets.

Texas-Tyler ended a 21-inning scoreless drought when they scored an unearned run off LeTourneau starter Justin Jenkins in the eighth. The Hallsville native allowed seven hits and struck out four to raise his record to 6-2.  Jordan Price came in the ninth to close out the game for his first save of the season.

LeTourneau got the run back in its half of the inning on a RBI ground out by Garrett Methvin. The graduate student drove in Bryce Griffin, who had been hit by a pitch to start the inning. He stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch before scoring on the play by Garrett Methvin.

The YellowJackets will take a three-game winning streak on the road as they will face Sul Ross State in Alpine. The series will start on Thursday, April 17 at 7 p.m. at Kokernot Field; followed by a doubleheader on Friday, April 18 at 1 p.m.
