Vikes win huge game and series from Rhodes

ROME, Ga. -- Berry College took the rubber game vs. Rhodes College, 12-7, on Saturday. The bat of Zach Farmer and the arm of Joey Bell were key to the win.

The Vikings improved 23-11 and 12-6 in Southern Athletics Association play. RC dropped to 26-10, 12-6.

With the game tied at 3-3, Farmer cleared the bases with a double and gave BC the lead for good at 6-3. Farmer was 3-4 with a run and four RBI in the contest.

Bell, who relieved starter Will Estes, got the win and improved to 2-1. He pitched four innings and allowed three earned runs. Zach Dutton allowed a run after hurling the last two frames.

Six Vikings collected two hits apiece in the game: TC BoydStephen GaylorDusty TysonSam Joyce,Alex McGill and Will Heard.

The teams combined for 31 hits. Strother White went 4-5 to lead Rhodes batters.

While the Vikings and Lynx are tied for second in the conference, Berry holds the tiebreaker with the series win. The first and second place teams host SAA tournament semifinals in two weeks.

In the meantime, Berry travels to Centre to close regular season play next weekend. The Lynx visit first place Birmingham-Southern.

Prior to the game, Berry recognized seniors Farmer, Gaylor, Boyd, Heard, Chad Busby and Austin Neely for their contributions to the program.

The Vikings play at Emory on Tuesday.
