Giants Outscore Mustangs 27-1 in Non-Conference Doubleheader Sweep

Stevenson, MD – Keystone College outscored Stevenson University 27-1 on Saturday afternoon to earn a doubleheader sweep over the Mustangs in non-conference baseball action. The Giants, who won Saturday's opener 19-0 before scoring eight runs in their final at-bats to score an 8-1 victory in the nightcap, improve to 17-11 on the season with their seventh consecutive victory.  After starting the season 3-9, Keystone has now won 14 of their last 16 contests to sit six games above the .500 mark. 
 
In Saturday's opener, the Giants scored multiple runs in five of the game's seven innings, Lymbel Guerrero (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) drove in five runs, and Louis Reyes (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) went 3-4 with four runs scored while Mike Pembleton (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Township) tossed a complete game, three-hit shutout to lead Keystone to the big win.
 
Guerrero got the scoring started with a two-run single up the middle in the top of the first inning before Keystone added three more runs in the second inning to make it a 5-0 game.  Cody Darley (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) drove in Gaston Rojas (Carmel, NY/Carmel) with double to right before Ricky Riscica (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) hit collected a two-run base hit.
 
The Giants pushed their lead to 9-0 with a four run fourth, as Kevin Catherina (Ridgefield, NJ/St. Mary (Rutherford)) driving in Reyes with a double down the right field line before Guerrero hit his second two-run single of the game.  Guerrero then scored Keystone's ninth run when Kevin Luciano (Everett, MA/Cambridge Rindge and Latin School) grounded into a double play.  The Giants added three more runs in the visitor's fifth  to open up a 12-run advantage with Riscica and Luciano sandwiching RBI singles around a sacrifice fly off the bat of Guerrero.
 
With all of their starters pulled, Keystone scored seven runs in the seventh inning to produce their highest single-game offensive output of the season.  Eriq Colon (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) opened the inning with his first collegiate home run before Joe Angelucci (Commack, NY/Commack) hit an RBI single.  Matt D'Ercole (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) followed with a bases loaded walk that brought in Jesus Lantigua (New York, NY/Walton) before Nick Spinella (Bethel, CT/Bethel) scored on a fielding error off a ball hit by Chris Muniz (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth)Anthony Muccio (Tarrytown, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) and Giorgio Butts-Padilla (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Manchester Valley) picked up RBIs with a bases loaded walk and hit by pitch, respectively before Colon capped the scoring with RBI single to center.
 
Along with Guerrero and Reyes's big games, Riscica went 2-2 with three RBIs and three runs scored while Luciano, Colon, and Rojas added two hits apiece. 
 
Pembleton earned the complete game shutout win on the mound to improve to 3-1 on the season after scattering three hits – all singles – and walking two while striking out eight batters on the day. 
 
Arik Fenster (0-4) suffered the loss on the mound for Stevenson after surrendering five runs on five hits in two innings on the mound.  The Mustangs would use three other pitchers to close out the game.
 
Kevin Wu, Troy Miller, and Ian Eberly accounted for the hosts' three hits in the opener. 
 
In Saturday's second game, Stevenson (11-20) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Miller and the hosts clung to the one-run lead until the seventh inning when Keystone, down to their final three outs, erupted for eight unanswered runs.
 
Guerrero once again got the Giants' offense going with a double down the left field line that scored Catherina with the tying run before Rick McLaughlin (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) brought home Riscica with the eventual game-winning run with a sacrifice fly.  Guerrero scored on an infield single from Rojas before Cody Darley (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) brought home Reyes with a single up the middle.
 
Dylan Corl (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch ) extended the Giants' advantage to 6-1 with a two-run double to right before Riscica hit a two-run single up the middle to wrap up the scoring before Jack Simons (Great Falls, VA/Bullis School) recorded the final three outs of the game on the mound for Keystone to close out the victory.
 
Rob Blanc (Sandy Hook, CT/Trumbull) improved to 3-2 on the season, picking up the win after going six strong innings in which he yielded an unearned run on five hits to go along with three strikeouts before turning the ball over to Simons.
 
Corl and Catherina both had two of the Giants' eight hits in the game two win with Corl and Riscica leading the way with two RBIs apiece.
 
Stevenson starter Trevor Fitzs (1-1) was charged with the loss after allowing three runs on four hits before handing the ball off to Jordan Szark, who surrendered five runs on three hits in 0.2 innings on the mound.  Austin Reitz recorded the final out of the Mustangs after allowing one hit.
 
Tom Goulian collected two hits to lead Stevenson offensively in the nightcap.
 
Keystone returns to action on Monday afternoon when they host Cairn University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference doubleheader.  First pitch against the Highlanders is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Christy Mathewson Field in La Plume.
