Rams Cruise in Opening Round of Skyline Playoffs

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Sophomore pitcher Alex Weingarten (East Rockaway, N.Y.) threw seven scoreless innings allowing only two hits as Farmingdale State earned a 14-0 victory over Mount Saint Vincent in the First Round of the Skyline Conference Playoffs.

The Rams (22-10) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI double to left center by junior second baseman Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.)

Junior right fielder Michael Marino (Franklin Square, N.Y.) led off the fourth with a triple to right center and later stole home to put Farmingdale State ahead 2-0. Junior designated hitter Ryan Levine (West Babylon, N.Y.) singled before a single to left field by freshman Richard Sullivan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored two runs and increased the advantage to 4-0. Two batters later, senior first baseman Daniel Paccione (Commack, N.Y.) gave the Rams a 5-0 lead with an RBI single to left field.

Farmingdale State added a run in the sixth before an eight run seventh inning sealed the First Round victory, 14-0.

Bergmann was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and 2 RBI, while Sullivan added two hits, two runs and a game-high 3 RBI. Alvino was 2-for-5 at the plate with two runs batted in for Farmingdale State.

Weingarten improved to 5-1 on the year after striking out five and allowing only two hits in seven innings pitched.

The Rams advance to the double-elimination tournament at Old Westbury and will face #2 Purchase on Friday, May 2nd at 7:00 p.m.
